it's been two years since jamal dean fired several shots at sioux city police officer kevin mccormick. after countless hours in the courtroom, the last members of his getaway team have been sentenced. the final two charged with conspiracy faced a judge in federal court. yesterday, 34-year-old evette morris hernandez of sioux city will spend 3 and a half years behind bars with three years of supervised release. 36-year-old esteban hernandez of mercedes, texas received 6 months in prison and one year supervised release. they tried to drive jamal dean out of the country before they were stopped by authorities. judge mark bennett says he took several things into consideration when deciding the sentence for the two. he says evette's was the top

female member of the f-13 gang in sioux city... and she was involved in the shooting of a rival gang member. esteban was not a gang member and didn't know jamal dean. the sentencing is the end of countless hours in the courtroom and time spent investigating for officials on the local, state and federal level, but most importantly officer kevin mccormick. ktiv's tiffany lane was in the courtroom as the final two getaway members in the jamal dean conspiracy were sentenced.

crime sprees. here's a look at the other people sentenced in the dean conspiracy case. kimberly smith who lived with the uncle was sentenced to eight months. anna baker received four months in federal prison. ingmar hernandez received 33 months. and, monica rocha- contreras was sentenced to 15 days in the woodbury county jail. a teenage student charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a south dakota high school principal has hired a private investigator to help in his defense. a motion filed by the defense team for 16-year-old mason buhl shows an investigator has been hired to locate and interview witnesses. buhl is charged as an adult on one count each of attempted murder and the commission of a felony while armed with a firearm. he is accused of confronting harrisburg high school principal kevin lein with a handgun in his office september 30 and firing a single shot that hit the principal in the arm. buhl is being held without bond. funeral services have been set for a man who was killed in a fire in allen, nebraska last

week. the flash fire happened at a restaurant under renovation last thursday. authorities say 70-year- old gerald, or jerry, koch of newcastle was in critical condition and was flown to an omaha hospital. he died from the injuries on sunday. the other person injured was his wife, identified as 69-year-old carol koch, his wife. she was in serious condition but has been released from the hospital. the fire happened when flammable liquid ignited. according to koch's obituary, funeral services will be held at 10:30 saturday morning at st. peter's catholic church in newcastle. a house fire monday night left a terril, iowa family homeless. when fire departments from terril, spirit lake, milford and superior arrived at 306 state street the home was engulfed in flames. five members of the family of six were home at the time. they managed to get out safely, along with the family's dog. authorities believe the fire started in the garage, but aren't sure what sparked it. interbake foods is looking to hire.

adding at least 60 more jobs to its bakery in north sioux city, south dakota this fall. starting pay for these production jobs is 12 dollars per hour. interbake is holding job fairs at its factory every friday in october from one to three p-m to fill the positions. it's not often that kids get to experience a professional symphony. nat pop of violin playing but yesterday, hundreds sixth graders from all around siouxland got that chance. the sioux city symphony held its annual concert for sixth grade students at the orpheum theatre this morning. the educational event introduces the symphony to students. conductor, ryan haskins, spoke about the history behind the music... and, the orchestra played excerpts from beethoven's 9th symphony. "an education should be well- rounded. it's not just math and science, but the arts and humanities and things like that so they get a well- rounded experience out of this," said executive director of the orchestra, mark francis.

lands him at the bottom of this morning's analysis. money may also be an indication of who performed well. sanders' campaign says he raised one-point-three million dollars during and immediately after the debate. i'm tracie potts in washington, now back to you. >> hillary clinton is getting some campaign support from a former government top official. former secretary of state madeleine albright is coming to sioux city to campaign for hillary clinton. she's scheduled to speak at a "women for hillary" event at the peirce mansion this morning at 8:45. a historic verdict from a wisconsin jury in a case that has been watched closely by both sides of the gun control issue. a jury has decided that a milwaukee gun store was negligent in the sale of a gun that was eventually used to shoot and seriously wound two police officers. the suit was filed by two police officers who were shot and seriously wounded by a young man they stopped for riding a bike on a milwaukee sidewalk. the gunman used a weapon purchased at badger guns. jurors ordered the gun store to pay the two officers nearly six million dollars. two florida mobile homes were set on fire after a plane crashed into them.

a security camera at a nearby business caught the plane falling out of the sky... and bursting into flames. residents reported a low flying aircraft in the area before seeing a visible column of smoke coming from this neighborhood. an unknown number of people were injured in the incident, and their condition is still unclear. do you have an idea for sioux city community schools? district officials want to hear about it. last night, the district held one of two community discussions taking place this week. staff members and parents shared what they thought were strengths and weaknesses for the district. they're looking for things they could improve in the future with limited resources. the biggest concerns? funding, test scores, overcrowded classrooms and not enough teachers. "that will all then be gathered back by the nebraska association of school board who will then bring it to the district advisory committee," said allison benson. " then the district advisory committee will then work on goals for the school districtand then present that to the school board in june."

and missed last night's meeting.... you still have a chance. there will be another one tomorrow night at six at north middle school. it was about a year ago, a storm caused extensive trees were uprooted... debris was scattered everywhere... and the one structure not covered under insurance was destroyed. ktiv's brianna clark is live in the newsroom with details on how a 20-thousand- dollar grant has helped make a park shelter house more sound than ever. good morning al and sarah. a park shelter house flattened by a storm that hit dakota city, nebraska has been rebuilt thanks to a community effort. and a check from a home improvement store.

houses, cars and campers were destroyed, trees were completely uprooted. and the shelter house at beermann park, which was once the home to many birthday parties, community get togethers and family picnics... was demolished. "the wind took everything and just lifted it up off the ground and just dropped it in a pile" says kurt peterson, maintenance supervisor for the city of dakota city, ne. but thanks to a 20- thousand-dollar "keep america beautiful - lowe's community betterment" grant... the shelter house at beermann park is bigger and stronger than ever. nat a few changes were made to the structure. before the storm, these poles sat on top of concrete and were bolted into the ground. now, they sit four feet deep into the ground, surrounded by concrete. so if a storm were to come again, the shelter would be ready. "i'm not saying this one wouldn't come done, but it will take a lot more to bring this one down," says peterson. the shelter is not only stronger than it was before... it's also bigger. it use to be 576 square feet. now, it's 864 square feet. which means more room for picnic tables and people. they also added electricity. "it was a really fun project to do knowing that what it is where doing is really giving back to the community," says peterson.

for a man who died of injuries suffered in a flash fire in allen, nebraska last week. 70-year-old jerry koch of newcastle was flown to an omaha hospital after the accident at a restaurant under renovation. he died from the injuries on sunday. the fire happened when flammable liquid ignited. koch's wife, 69-year-old carol koch, also suffered serious injuries, but hahasince been released from the hospital. funeral services for jerry cook are set for 10:30 saturday morning at st. peter's catholic church in newcastle. it's not often that kids get to experience a professional symphony. nat pop of violin playing but yesterday, hundreds sixth graders from all around siouxland got that chance. the sioux city symphony held its nual concert for sixth grade ststents at the orpheum theatre this morning. the educational event introduces the symphony to students. conductor, ryan haskins, spoke about the history behind the music... and, the

it's a aittle bit more healthy. whitney: yes, it's more like a granola bar than a cookie. they're very easy and can be stored in the fridge or the freezer. that way they get a little bit harder of a texture. otherwise they get a little soft if you store at room temperature. but, i'm going to show you how easy they are to make. in my bowl of ingredients i have a couple of cups of oatmeal, some dried cranberries and some pumpkin seeds. you can use any dried fruit you want. you can also use sunflower seeds. if you don't like pumpkin seeds or if you have a hard time finding them. to that i'm going to add some ground flax seeds. sheila: do you want to start stiring. w wtney: yeye in this bowl i'm going to take care of the wet ingredients. i'm going to start with the pumpkin. it's full of potassium, fiber. it's really full of vitamins and minerals. sheila: so, canned pumpkin? you need to stay away from the sweetened. is that the key?

you want the pumpkin pie filling with just the mpkin. then you add some cocunut oil that i already melted. cocunut oil is being touted for everything from digestion to putting in your hair. sheila: putting in your hair? whitney: yes, your hair. i put it in my hair. sheila; look, like you do have a little more shine going on there whitney. whitney: it does have a lot of health benefits and it does have a really slight cocunut flavor. so, it adds a nice tropical flavor almost in there. sheila: what if you don't like coconut? whitney::you cocold substitute some butter or somee canolaail. to add some eetness i'm aaing some honeyey plus, some eggs andnd some pupukin pie spice. it's wouldn't be a pumpkin pie something without that spice. and, a pinch of salt. that's it for the ingredients. you could add as much or as little of pumpkin as you like. i have about a quarter of a cup. not too much. sheila: that smells so good. whitney: you really can't taste it that much so if you want you could add a little

"that will all then be gathered back by the nebraska association of school board who will then bring it to the district advisory committee," said allison benson. "the wind took everything and just lifted it up off the ground and just dropped it in a pile" says kurt peterson, maintenance supervisor for t t city of dakota city, ne. but thanks to a 2020 thousand-dollar "keep america beautiful - lowe's community betterment" grant... the shelter house at beermann park is bigger and stronger than ever. nat a few changes were made to the structure. before e e storm, ese poles sat on top of ncrete and were bolted into the ground. . ow, they sit four feet deep into the ground, surrounded by concrete. so if a storm were to come again, the shelter would be ready. "i'm not saying this one wouldn't come done, but it will take a lot more to bring this one down," says peterson. the shelter is not only stronger than it was before... it's also bigger. it use to be 576 square feet. now, it's 864 squaua feet. which means momo room for picnic tablesesnd people. they also added electricity.8"it was a really fun project to do
