canceled shortly after 7 pm. ron, is a day like this in october unusal for this time of year? ron wx ad-lib this is late in the year but it's not unheard of as iowa has had tornadoes in 11 out of the 12 months of the year. today was unusual because these weren't big, supercell thunderstorms like usually produce tornadoes, but there was a lot of rotation in the low levels of the atmosphere that helped produce the tornadoes. we had a handful of tornado touch downs, but now all those storms have moved out of the area and we're just left with some area of light rain and drizzle.

you shortly. let's take a look at some of the damage that the tornado caused throughout siouxland. here's an image sent to us by laura seaton in hinton, iowa. damage including a broken playground, and debris scattered throughout residents yards in hinton. laura also sent this picture showing fences down with a storage facility ripped from the ground. the tornado caused siding to rupture on some houses. here's a close up of one case where that happened/ winds so powerful lifting a central air condensor off the ground and

onto it's side. one street in hinton suffered significant damage from this evening's storms. one man had his shed completely ripped off its foundation, causing it to destroy the fence in his back yard. his neighbor's property suffered damage as well, with some roofing and siding being ripped off the house. the storm caused damage to the window of a truck, as well blowing insulation all over the property. obviously sights and sounds you never want to see. ron before we head to the break, any chance these will conditions will linger into the weekend i'm happy to say the storms are gone. i'll talk about what the weekend temperatures will be like coming up next.

around 30 miles per hour during the night. we should quickly clear our skies on saturday and we'll stay dry right on through monday with highs in the low to mid 60s. a few isolated showers could return by tuesday and wednesday as conditions cool down more with highs for the middle and latter part of next week only in the 50s. still to come here on a friday

an akron, iowa man that's been arrested for possible sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy. 56-year-old wilhelm vonhofsteder came into contact with the boy after he placed an ad in a paper for yard work. that's according to chief deputy craig bartolozzi. he says the child's parents contacted the akron police department. police requested the assistance of the plymouth county sheriff's office in the investigation. on july 13th, a search warrant was used at vonhofsteder's residence at 200 north 7th street in akron. several items were found, including material depicting

minors in several stages of undress and sexual acts. today, he was arrested on one count of sexual abuse in the third degree and six counts of possession of child pornography. his bond has been set at 20 thousand dollars. authorities have released the name of the man who died near salix, iowa. 40-year-old troy barfield has been identified as the driver. according to iowa state patrol, around 7 a-m this morning, a sergeant bluff officer attempted to stop barfield, who was possibly intoxicated. barfield didn't stop and continued down county road k45. the pickup left the roadway and rolled over he was was partially ejected and died at the scene. republican presidential candidate donald trump is slated to speak at sioux city's west high school on tuesday night. but, an online petition, asks the superintenden t of sioux city's schools to not allow trump to use the school for his speech. there's a move on-dot- org petition with over 1- thousand signatures calling trump a "bully" and

schools." the petition specifically cites his rhetoric towards hispanics. this petition highlights the district's "zero tolerance" policy toward bullying. but, today, superintenden t dr. paul gausman addressed the concerns surronding trump's visit, saying this isn't the district supporting bullying in any manner, rather abiding by school board policy. "the policy doesn't give me the ability to decide which candidates we would approve, which candidates we would not approve," said sioux city community schools superintendent, dr. paul gausman. "the policy doesn't give me the ability to use a petition to help make my decision, so we have followed policy to the letter and will follow law to the letter." move on-dot-org isn't the only group protesting trump's upcoming visits. on facebook, nearly 900 people have said they will attend a protest to "silence donald trump". the group says the protest isn't about politics, but quote "the safety of our community." that'll do it for news and weather but our sports crew is just getting warmed up. we've got a lot of high school football to show you.

extra. along with mark freund, i'm brad pautsch it's the last week of the regular season -- we'll see metro action with east, heelan, sgt. bluff- luton and south sioux. playoff positioning was a key theme for game at western christian, woodbury central and kingsley- pierson. in nebraska, norfolk and battle creek look for strong finishes. we'll start in sioux city. east high has already clinched a spot in the class 4a playoffs for the sixth

year in a row. the 5-3 black raiders needed a win -- and some help -- to get a home playoff game next week. to do it -- east would have to beat ninth-ranked johnston. east hoping for a quick start at rainy olsen stadium. johnston trying to get on the board first -- grant gossling finds some open space -- that's a 37-yard run, down to the east 13-yard line. but the ball was slippery -- next play, the dragons cough it up and jacob wiley recovers for the black raiders -- no score after one quarter. east not doing much on offense -- connor koza is picked off by drew singbush -- and the dragons would turn the turnover into points. after a long drive -- t-boy white scores the first td of the game from 3 yards out and johnston beats east -24-3. bishop heelan -- will have a home playoff game on wednesday -- visiting 1-7 lemars.

the bulldogs come out gunning early in the 1st quarter as quarterback gabe eckstaine connects on the deep pass with kyle kliever for the long touchdown reception to put lemars up 6 to 0. the kickoff as timmy winders follow his blocks and gets to the outside on the long kickoff return to give the crusaders good field position. the crusader drive ends when mekhi bianchini gives the quick handoff to brayden bork and he runs it in for the touchdown to give heelan a 7 to 6 lead in the first quarter, and the crusaders dominate lemars en route to a 65 to 12 victory. 9th-ranked sgt. bluff-luton, visiting 5-3 spencer -- both already in the 3a playoffs. early in the second, spencer fumbles-it is recovered by drew girres. three downs later, sergeant bluff would get the touchdown, the handoff to terrence sanchez, it's 7-nothing. spencer fumbles again with 4 minutes left in the half (it is recovered by connor roos) and sbl has a short

in their finale 48-12. norfolk dropped out of nebraska's class a top ten last week after a shutout loss in north platte. the panthers, 6-2, trying to get back on track against 5-3 kearney. a win would likely give norfolk a home game next week to open the playoffs. norfolk trailed 6-0 early - but then really poured it on. panthers up 7-6 in the second - one of the only miscues of the night - gunner fuelberth's pass is tipped and intercepted by kearney. but norfolk gets it right back - and go on the offensive - kayden simmons - fighting for the extra yards - simmons goes 11 yards for a first down. then fuelberth airs it out to lane mccallum - great one-handed grab and gets the panthers to the kearney 10. mccallum finishes off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown - mccallum scored 3 times as norfolk pounds kearney 42- to-6. battle creek - looking for an undefeated regular season against lutheran high northeast. the braves like to run - but the eagles seth knapp sniffing one out early for a nice tackle. but you can only keep battle creek on the mend for so long - mason mettler in at fullback - and he almost breaks a big gainer - still goes for a first down. then it's derek renner - for 19 yards - renner ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns. the braves can beat you with so many guys - wyatt hamer is the one that caps the drive with a 9 yard touchdown. battle creek handles lutheran high northeast, 35-0. in class 1a, number-8 hinton looking for their eighth win against unity christian. late 2nd quarter, hinton is driving, and on 4th down and one, terrill henrich gets the handoff on the end around, and he finds enough for the first down. later in the drive, jay small

finding someone but he extends the play with his running ability and finally finds truman schmitt who runs for another blackhawk first down. less than 20 seconds before half, hinton finishes the drive as small throws it up for blake vande hoef, and he comes down with the catch for the touchdown, and that puts hinton up 24 to 8 at halftime, and the blackhawks rolls on to victory by a final of 45 to 20. woodbury centrnd sioux central -- meeting for a class a playoff spot, both teams 4-4. the wildcats driving early -- joe hayden makes a shoe string catch for a first down -- and joe is not going down without a fight. woodbury central keeps throwing it -- ethan shultzen finds hayden again -- the ball bounces up and lands on his stomach for another first down. sioux central gets out of trouble with a missed field goal
