"that's the difference between me and others in this race. i'm someone who's very practicial, i'm a conservative, and i want to make sure we have an opportunity to compete with the rest of the world so we can create better paying jobs here," said presidential hopeful, rick santorum. second, is immigration. he says you hear rhetoric from other presidential hopefuls about immigration. republican presidential candidate marco rubio speak at bev's on the river. his stop is just two days after the last gop debate in boulder, colorado where many said he grabbed the spotlight. rubio is currently third in the real clear politics national poll average at nine point three percent behind donald trump and dr. ben carson. he is also polling behind them in the iowa poll at ten point two percent. we'll have more on rubio tonight at ten. democrat martin o'malley has been campaigning for president for four months. but, with one debate done, and the des moines debate just two weeks away, the former maryland governor says it feels like the campaign is just beginning. ktiv's matt breen sat down with o'malley during his trip to sioux city, today.

"people in iowa aren't intimidated by polls," said martin o'malley, (d) presidential candidate. "you have to create some new grant programs so that states have some skin in the game. and their dollars are matched by the federal government. and, we have to help the students, and the parents trapped in the "parent plus" loans refinance at a much lower rate." wall street will help pay for the proposal, as well. o'malley would add a "transaction fee" attached to every trade. s today about the annual sleepout the sleepout was only supposed to go for 10 years-- but the issue of homelessness continues-- so the misson goes on. every year siouxlanders spend the night outside sleeping in makeshift tents on the field of explorer stadium. the event not only raises money, but also awareness about homelessness. "the problem hasn't gone away. we have to deal with that. we and the number of volunteers i have and the different organizations just have a compassion for the problem out there and this is our way of making it go away as best we can," said siouxland sleepout event coordinator, willie delfs. the family friendly event is next friday night and they're expecting around 300 people. so far they've raised half a million dollars and the goal this year is to raise $50,000 dollars-- which all stays locally. building bright futures: the major initiative to help siouxland.

sioux city that will connect organizations with community members in need. "bright futures" is a community impact program that originated in joplin, missouri...and today it officially came to siouxland. advisory board members say it's a way to bring the community together to work as one team serving sioux city. sioux city community schools is leading the initiative and collaborating with community partners. "bright futures" will be implemented in the school system by volunteers helping out students in need in the schools around the community. organizations and those in need will connect through a facebook page called "bright futures sioux city." if you remember, about a month ago... we showed you this pumpkin from sioux city artist, brenda thelen who painted it with some familiar faces. she painted nbc's tonight show host host jimmy fallon as "dracula." and a few other people as halloween monsters. well, the pumpkin has made its
