good evening and thanks for joining us tonight. i'm sheila brummer. (matt) and i'm matt breen. a massive crash involving a stolen car has turned deadly. (sheila) first responders rushed to 25th and morgan on sioux city's north side around one this afternoon. ktiv's robert lowe joins us with an update tonight. matt and sheila, investigators aren't releasing the name of the two people killed just yet. but, we do know they were a 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman both from sioux city. sioux city police say the driver of the stolen car sped down 25th street. the vehicle smashed into an suv backing out of a driveway. the stolen nissan hit a tree then a jeep cherokee. police can't confirm if it flipped over before or after the impact. "we did have witnesses who saw the vehicle travel up over the hill, went as far to say they thought it actually caught air, was airborn coming over the hill," "it was traveling that fast." sioux city fire rescue and sioux city police used

the jaws of life to remove at least one of the accident victims from the vehicle, that was reported stolen five days ago. paramedics rushed them to mercy medical center, but they didn't survive. no one else was seriously injured. however, a woman in the suv who was pregnant told us she was going to the hospital. her one-year-old son-- also in the vehicle wasn't hurt. matt and sheila? polls have closed and tonight results from several elections across siouxland. let's start in sioux city where turnout was expected to be light. mayor bob scott ran unopposed. he'll serve another 4- year term. council member rhonda capron was also up for re-election. she beat thomas venesky by over 1,300 votes. one person ran for an open seat in the iowa legislature.

from le mars, iowa will represent district 5. representative chuck soderberg resigned to take a job in des moines. in sioux center, the vote for highway 75 did not pass. the vote was 56% yes and 44% no. they needed 60% to pass the measure. voters were deciding whether the city should use debt funds to expand highway 75 to four lanes, plus a turn lane through town. city leaders were pushing for it, saying the 4-million dollar they're serious about the project. there was opposition from people who worry about increased traffic and property that would have to be taken. in crawford county, iowa they're deciding the future of a local dialysis center with bond issue worth more than two- yes and 44% voted no.

voted on a hotel/motel tax. in onawa, they voted 50% no for a 7% tax that if it had been approved, would kick in the first of the year. in sheldon in o'brien county they're looking at increasing their hotel and motel tax by two percent. if approved the new rate of seven percent would kick in on january 1st. people in larchwood, iowa in lyon county trying to decide if they'll start a local gas utility. also, in lyon county people in lester, iowa are also voting on whether or not to add a city gas utility. for the full results of tonight's elections, visit ktiv dot com. we'll have results for every county as soon as they come in. the omaha tribe of nebraska held general elections for two open

tribal council seats. incumbent jeff s. miller won re-election. michael d. wolfe was also picked by voters. a swearing in ceremony for the two new members will take place tomorrow in macy. they also voted to look into legalizing the recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and over. one year out before the 2016 general election, hillary clinton and ben carson are tied in a hypothetical matchup. but clinton leads three other major republican candidates, according to brand-new numbers from the nbc news/wall street journal poll. against ben carson, who is now leading the gop horserace in the nbc-wsj poll, clinton finds herself in a tied contest, 47 percent to 47 percent. clinton is ahead of republican donald trump by eight points among registered voters, 50 percent to 42 percent. she leads former florida governor jeb bush by four points, 47 percent

as the 2 billion dollar c-f industries project continues to move full speed ahead, there's a need for additional roads. (sheila) the new road into the north side of the c-f industries plant speed limit was set at tonight's woodbury county meeting. the board, along with the county engineer agreed 35 mph was appropriate. if the supervisors did not approve a new speed limit, 55 mph would have been the default speed. the woodbury county law enforcement center may soon become bigger. at tonight's county supervisor meeting, the board unanimously passed spending $12,000 on a study to see if the facility can handle a new wing. woodbury co. sheriff dave drew, says now is the time to look at alternative options, because prairie hills posses a number of problems. "now we're running four or five people that qualify, and it's a lot of money for a building such as that," said woodbury county sheriff, dave

the county estimates to spend more than $1 million dollars over the next decade at the aging prairie hills on maintenance alone. supervisor jeremy taylor anticipates the lec expansion to cost less. woodbury county took a major step tonight toward becoming the first county in iowa to incorporate led lighting throughout all county buildings. the supervisors approved awarding a bid of $522,000 to eicko for the lights. the next step is to approve bids to contractors, so that the installation process can begin. woodbury county supervisor jeremy taylor says the move will benefit the community. "we're ecstatic," said woodbury county supervisor jeremy taylor. "it's a great thing for taxpayers and the environment." supervisor taylor says it will take less than three years to see a total payback. the hard rock hotel and casino unveiled a new display for a local musician. the case features memorabilia from ron emory's musical career emory launched the sioux city conservatory of music with his wife gia. he was a guitarist for the punk

started in california in the 1970's. the conservatory of music is holding a fundraiser on friday night. it take place at 6 p.m. at the orpheum theatre and includes special guest sublime with rome. (sheila) homelessness is an issue that affects people all over siouxland. so, a group of sioux city middle school girls decided to do something about it. (matt) ktiv's tommie clark met those students who say they just want to make a difference.

these students are part of a female empowerment group called girls circle. they focus on building each other up verses tearing each other down and helping out in their community. a couple of weeks ago during their weekly meetings, they decided to do something about homelessness by making "blessing bags." "girls circle teaches middle schoolers how they can make a big difference with just one of these blessing bags." "when we opened up group we always open up with a intro question of the day and the question of the day was what is one thing in our community when you see it or witness it, makes you a little sad and it was overwhelmingly homelessness," said juvenile court liason for sioux city schools and girls circle facilitator, margarite reinert. the group of over 50 7th and 8th grade girls reached out to the rest of the student body and asked for personal care and cold weather items. and tuesday, they grabbed some bags and started putting those items together. "it's important to have the girls really look at empathy, but also knowing that the things that pull on their hearts, they can make a difference even with the small little things-- the random act of kindness is not only good for them, but good for the

community as well," said juvenile court liason for sioux city schools and girl circle facilitator, margarite reinert. (sheila) ktiv's sam curtiss shows us how some sioux city middle students used those items to make robots. there's a methodic thought that goes into each turn of this lego robots wheels. "it works," said nathan stokes. sixth grader nathan stokes and his group, the patriots, fine tune their lego robot. "from getting it to here all the

way to there took us two hours," said nathan stokes. tuesday night is just practice for an upcoming competition. high school students obeserved stokes and other middle school students offering pointers. "i noticed a lot of them were having problems that they had to fix while doing the competition," said chance jensen. though different ages and grades, chance jensen and stokes and everything you see is part of sioux city schools stem program. "i didn't think it was for me but there are so many things you have to work on it," said chance jensen. "it's for anyone that thinks robots are cool." especially cool when you can use it for things like this. but to be serious, in it's fourth year, the program has gained popularity.

"we now have six middle school teams and seven high school teams," said april tidwell. and it's not all robotics. this north high groups science project is set to go to the international space station at some point. they're testing if allergies exist in space. twice now the rocket carrying their project has exploded before getting there. "we didn't really change much but we got more time to think about it and how we're going to analyze the results when they got back," said robert hwang. as the lessons students learn is large. many will agree it comes with plenty of trial and error. "we also had to remodel our robot," said stokes. in sioux city, sam curtiss, ktiv news four. on december 5th, those middle school students will put their robots to a real test in a regional competition. still to come.... pot was on the ballot in ohio today and voters voted down to legalize it. the latest on ohio's decision.

it would have allowed anyone 21 or older to use, buy or grow certain kinds of marijuana. failure of the proposed constitutional amendment follows an expensive campaign, a legal fight over its ballot wording and an investigation into the proposal's petition signatures. four state have passed the use of marijuana; washington, oregon, colorado and alaska. a democratic effort to delay privatization of medicaid in iowa has failed in a legislative oversight hearing. democratic lawmakers on the health policy oversight committee proposed a motion asking governor terry branstad to hold off on implementing the privatization plan by six months. but republicans opposed it and the proposal did not move forward. branstad's plan to move medicaid to private management is scheduled to start january 1. only a small percentage of parents in the u-s choose not to vaccinate their children.

honor his roots. harty was a member of the 49'ers super bowl 16 win in 1982. he shared life experiences and personal advice with heelan students and delivered a golden football to the school. it's part of an nfl program commemorating schools that had a positive impact on players. every super bowl player, or coach, can do this at their high school. harty says he hopes his words resonate with students. "it's great to comeback," said john harty. "if i can kind of inspire a couple of kids somehow and motivating them to develop a really good attitude, a winning attitude, take pride in the whole pride concept that heelan's about, then that's time well spent to me." "we enjoyed a lot of very good football games together," said phil karpuk.
