u.s. officials say the americans were civilians who were part of a state department police training program. president barack obama says it's "no secret" that the security situatn in the mideast has deteriorated -- d he says he wants to work with israel to "get back on a path towards peace." mr. obama spoke at the start of a meeting with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu in the oval office today. it was their first face-to- face meeting in more than a year. their meeting comes as the u.s. and israel work to move past tensions over the u.s.- backed nuclear deaea with iran. four people are dead and 14 others injured after a pickup truck collided with a church van in a ryland suburb of washington, d.c. authorities say three people in the church van were killed in the sunday crash, including a young child, along with the driver of the pickup truck. six children and eight adults -- were brought to various hospitals. eight of those people were in critical condition, including four childrenenaccording to a fire depararent spokesman. police believe the pickup truck

initially rear-ended a vehicle before traveling several hundred feet farther, losing control and crossing a double yellow line into the van's path. republican bobby jindal brought his presidential campaign back to siouxland over the weekend. the louisiana governor spoke in onawa sunday, where he took a shot at obamacare. jindal repealing the affordable health care act is one of the biggggt issues in this election. he's challenging fellow candidate ted cruz to debate healthcare. "i'm a holocaust survivor...and i was in world war ii and we were in a group of 130 children evacuated from latvia to germany, but a small handful of us were j jish, but our identites were concealed so that nobody knew t tt. had it been known who we were, i wouldn't be here talking to you. so i've kind of grown to identity with this community," said holocaust surivivor and st. paul lutheran church pastor, peter boe. boe comes to latke party every year...not only for the latkes and matzah ball soup... "the beth shalom congregation is part of a family i have come to know, part of a larger, extended family and they accept me in the similar spirit," said holocaust surivivor and st. paul lutherara church pastor, peter boe. boe was evacuated from latvia to germany when he was just 5-years-old and to america when he was 11...they think, since his records were destroyed in the war. al roker is on a quest to set a guinness world record - by forecasting the weather from all 50 states in a single week. he knocked out four states this morning, standing at the four corners - where utah, colorado, new mexico and arizona meet. and he did it musically, conducting four vocal groups, one from each state, all singing "america the beautiful." he still has a monstrous schedule ahead of him though as he makes his way through 9 more states by the end of the day.

the sioux city city council is scheduleleto vote today on applying for a $4.6 million grant to help pay for street work needed for the new seaboard- triumph foods pork plant. the grant from the "revitalize iowa's sound economy" program would help pay for street work and signage recommended in a traffic study of the bridgeport west industrial area. the 264-million dollar plant will employ more than 11- hundred people when it opens in two years.
