is in the community and how appreciate we are of their help and supporting o o troops," said support siouxland soldiers founder, sarah petersen. at the event today the students brought a bus load of food, 40 care packages and 13-hundred- dollars to send the packages overseas. the next event like today's wilil held december 15th from 5:30 to 7:30 in the evening at the american red cross in sioux city. matt and sheila? thanks, tommie. although veterans day isn't until tomorrow, one siouxland elementary school just couldn't wait to show their appreciation for ththmen and women in uninirm. the school raised over one thousand dollars in donations for siouxland freedom park in south sioux city. "these youngsters at covington elementary, their teachers, their parents, their friends: you can't believe what this means to us. this was raised with pennies and nickels and dimes and dollar bills and their effortrt and as veterans on this day, is just like a dream come true," said siouxland freedom park, inc. president, mike newhouse. veterans and members of the american legion post 30707ill presest their annual veterans' day observance tomorrow morning. the ceremony will take place at the wall in siouxland freedom park tomorrow at 11:00am. the grant request for a 264-million dollar pork plant project at southbride industrial park in sioux city has been approved by the iowa dot. the council approved applying for a 4-point-6 million dollar grant through the "revitalize iowa's sound economy" program yesterday. a sioux city man faces sexual

abuse charges involving a 13-year-old girl at a local hospital. investigators say on saturday night 20- year-old alex anderson met up with the victim at the icu waiting room at mercy medical center. he then kissed her several times and put his hand in her shorts. authorities charged anderson with 3rd degree sexual abuse. officials at mercy medical center say their security staff was alerted about the situation and they called sioux city police. the iowa department of criminal investigation is looking into the death of a man in calhoun county. around two this rning, the calhoun county sheriff was alerted to a home at 205 2nd street in pomeroy. when they arrived they found a man dead with a gunshot wound. so, far no arrests in the case. but, authorities say they the publicicsn't in any danger. the name of the victim isn't being released yet. we got to enjoy one more nice day before we start to see some changes around siouxland. chief meteorologis t ron demers joins us now with the first look at our forecast. weather ad-lib high wind warning in effect for most of the area wednesday and wednesday night

winter storm watch for holt county on wednesday we got to enjoy one more mild day today before changes move in for tomorrow. clouds will already be on the increase tonight and western siouxland could see some showers as the night goes along. then rain and storms become likely for our day on wednesday with maybe even some snow falling by the afternoon in western siouxland. as a cold front pushes in, the winds are going to become gusty and that's the reason for a high wind warning for wednesday into wednesday night for the ktiv viewing area. winds could gust over 50 miles per hour at times.

"veterans day allows all of us to pay tribute, and honor, the sacrifice that these men and women make every day for our freedom. many serve their countries in the military... and their communities as firefightts." "we'e' traded in our combat boots for turnout boots and our fatigues for turnout gear," said sarah orwig, a firefighter for the sioux city fire rescue. "and our new mission is to serve the citizens of sioux city." a mission that many people in ththcommunity are thankfkf for. and tuesday, the veterans currently working for the sioux city fire rescue were honored. su "those honored tuesday say there's a similar bond between those serving in the military, au well as those serving in the fire rescue." "nobody really understands the concept of brotherhood quite like firefighters and veterans do," said orwig. "it's an alliance. it's a friendship. it's relying on one another."

"it's about the recognition for the sacrifices and service that other people have made and i just feel like it's a very appropriate location," said d ian malcolm, a firefighter for the sioux city fire rescue. all branches of the military were recognized at the event. "i was kind of amazed by how many veterans that have served, that we actually have in the department," said adam wright, a firefighter paramedic with the sioux city fire rescue. grow. and it's all for a good cause. november is a popular month to sport facial hair. there's two major campaigns going on. one is m mvember, and the othehe is no-shave november. movember raises money for prostate cancer and testicular cancer among other health issues. the goal behind no- shave november is to donate the money you'd spend on shaving related products to the american cancer society. dr. steve joyce with mercy medical center says it's all about awawaness. the iowa high school football semifinals start thursday in cedar falls. sgt. bluff-luton will play in the class 3a semi's for the first time innchool history. the 8th-ranked warriors take on 7th-ranked norwalk. sgt. bluff-luton has been scoring a lot of points. the warriors scored a 3a playoff record 72 points in round two -- and are averaging 53 points in their three postseason wins. norwalk has given up just 25 total points in the playoffs. sbl is giving up 34 points a game in the playoffs and that has to get better if they want to move into the state championship game. "we're going to have to continue to play well on offensebviously and we're going to have to play better defense," said sbl head coach justin smith. "because now the competition just keeps getting better and we can't keep allowing 30 points per game and hope to come out on top." "we spend a lot of time on it and our offense is really explosive," id senior running back drew girres. "the line creates holes for us. us as running backs, we only have a good day if the lineman have a good day."
