to promote attractions in their areas. kuoo radio's steve schwaller joins us now to tell us more. steve? matt and sheila, six northwest iowa counties are participating in a state initiative designed to improve and promote various attractions in the region. buena vista, clay, dickinson, emmet, o'brien and palo alto counties are collaborating together in what is known as the "green ribbon commission"n" which is being speerheaded by the iowa parks foundadaion. ted karousis of the northwest iowa planning and development commission, which is coordinating the effort on behalf of the counties... "we looked at our aging population and the fact that we keep losing folks to other areas. what this will hope to do is create an outline to make this area more attractive: increase tourism, increase the quality of life, make this area more attractive to families, hopefully increase the population of the area as well through the efforts of this strategic plan and ultimately and hopefully grant project." a committee of representatives om each of the six countiis hassbeen formedd karousss says those embers will do an inventory of the various cultural amenities and other attractions currently available in the region. following that, he says they'll gather public input on wants and needs. what will be the next step after that? following that a strategic plan of proposed improvements will be drawn up, which would then be

submitted to the iowa parks foundation for possible grant funding. one siouxland non-profit was on the receiving end of a generous donation to help fuel some big plans. camp high hopes announced the new contribution to their s'morr first emier bank donated $50,000. the mooy will help jumpstart construction plans for the camp's expansion.
