taken to the hospital in plainview for treatment. two other passengers were taken to the hospital in neligh then transferred to omaha. a yankton man who died in a weekend hunting accident is believed to have accidentally shot himself. the 54-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was found unresponsive behind his truck saturday morning on the yankton sioux reservation. he was declared dead at the scene. yankton sioux law enforcement authorities believe the man accidentally fired his gun, and his death does not appear to be suspicious. a cold front is moving across the southwest spawning tornados, heavy rains and thunderstorms overnight. meanwhile blizzard conditions around denver, colorado are slowing traffic and causing hundreds of flights cancelations. mike seidel and leanne gregg have more on these early winter severe storms.

metro area and in the eastern part of the state heading into the plains. the storm system should move on at some point today heading to the east but not before also causing several delays and cancellations at denver international airport. from castle rock, im leanne gregg for nbc news. >> > weather ad-lib a weather system that has already produced tornadoes well to our south and blizzard conditions well to our west will bring mere throughout the day. after a stormy morning, showers will become more sparse by the middle of the day before picking up tonight. there's still the off chance of a light wet snow/mix in our extreme western cities, but other than that, the majority of precipitation the next couple days should be in the form of rain.

to the arrest of those responsible for downing the russian airliner in egypt. russian investigators say today they have confirmed it was a bomb that brought the plane down, killing all 224 people on board. the islamic state group has claimed responsibility. u.s. defense officials say russia retaliated today by attacking isis' self-declared capital in syria with cruise missiles and bombs. a siouxland school is celebrating its designation as being one of the best in the country. ridge view is the only high school in iowa to be named a national blue ribbon school in 2015. that's an honor from the u.s. department of education based on how well students do on state assessments. the award was unveiled last night at the school in holstein. "we've had success in the fine arts, and the athletics, and this just punctuates what we really are here for is the academics, and we have outstanding kids here who achieve very well." said superintendent jon wiebers "it's

the city of sioux city is getting behind plans for an agriculture exposition and learning center. the council has approved donating the 12 acres of land at the former john morrell site for the project, plus two-million dollars paid out over ten years through the capital improvement plan budget. the expo center would cost 11 to 14-million dollars.

"there will be a lot of activity around that, there will be alot of tourism around that," said sioux city mayor bob scott. but, it won't happen if the public sector and private sector come to come together." the ag expo is the first part of a three-part plan that eventually could also include a new hotel and developing industrial buildings into offices and apartments downtown. the project also requires a 2-million dollar commitment from woodbury county. if funding is secured, officials say it could open as early as 2017. a group formed to plot an economic strategy for rural woodbury county held its first meeting last night in anthon. the rural woodbury county development committee includes leaders from each town who share ideas on how to grow. it gives a voice to rural communities and gives them the chance to brainstorm on ways to bring in development and people. "the economic development boom that the siouxland region is having really gives an opportunity for

these communities to get some new families to come and live there," said woodbury county economic development director, david gleiser. (derek staahl, reporting) each unit is made up of two shipping containers joined small exception. the bathroom is technically outside the purposes. experts say there are hundreds of thousands of unused shipping containers just taking up space around u-s port cities so finding a use for them is a big step forward. it was also a step forward for the city of phoenix. money and get the best plan for themselves. you're a volunteer? yes, ma'am. how much have you saved people? it's approaching $100,000 now just since the middle of october when we started this. there's around 10 of us in siouxland, this is a division of the insurance division of iowa. there's 350 of us around the state. last year in iowa we saved people $50 million dollars. if you're 65 or older you need to volunteer like you, to sit down and go through everything. my mom did this and she was amazed by how much she was able to save. there's a lot of things you don't know about. it's fairly complicated. it is complicated. 10,000 people a day turn 65 as the baby boom generation goes through the pipeline. it's important that they get some guidance, that's what ship is all about. we've been doing this since 1990 for iowans. thanks to linda and the siouxland active generations for hosting us too. we love having them there sheila. where do people go to get the help? they can call us at 712-255-
