it was an explosion a block away at the proliant plant in lytton, iowa tuesday night. "we normally don't have that big of an explosion down in lytton," said troy arndt, lytton fire chief. "it was more of not a real big fireball explosion. it was more of a percussion explosion." it was an explosion that sent three people to the hospital. 34-year-old earl moore of ohio was inside a large storage tank to patch a seam when the explosion occurred around six p-m. the other two victims were 32-year old manuel ruiz of ohio who was assisting 52-year old dana boom of lake view, iowa. they were in the room at the time of the explosion. "there was really not much structural damage to deal with," said arndt. "it was just more of a, like garage doors got the worst damage of it and everything inside the plant is built with heavy steel. so it never really showed it, everything. so we didn't have much obstacles to get to the patient." investigators for the sac county sheriff's office and the state fire marshal's office are working with proliant in their investigation. "right now they're trying to focus on what

throwing rocks to stop, and they say those throwing bricks or bottles at officers are "angry people showing up and causing trouble and making the rest of us look bad." earlier yesterday, police personnel removed tents and other equipment belonging to black lives matter demonstrators, moving them away from the building in the process. the first line of officers was quickly followed by swat teams that jumped out of vans dressed in camouflage. a week after issuing a series of demands to end discrimination on the university of kansas campus - and a week of silence - those behind the movement are talking. students involved with 'rock chalk invisible hawk' made the demands for administrators to improve the environment at the university. that includes the creation of a mandatory 'inclusion and belonging training' for students and staff - and banning concealed weapons on campus. although the group's efforts appear to mirror what's happening at the university of missouri - the students say their organization actually formed more than a year ago - but they felt now was

the time to act. both the provost and chancellor of the university have promised change- but students involved in the movement say they're still waiting to see action. at least three students were injured yesterday when a school bus crashed north of houston. the bus was carrying students from an intermediate school when the accident occurred. aerial video shows at least two people being taken on stretchers to waiting ambulances. others were being checked out on the scene. no details of the accident are known at this time... and the cause is being investigated. at least two people are dead after a helicopter went down in southern california. the crash at the airport in carlsbad happened yesterday afternoon. the chopper could be seen spinning out of control while on the ground before the blades broke off and fire engulfed the aircraft. the pilot was reportedly trying to land on a helicopter landing cart. a helicopter instructor who knew the man flying the craft says he was a new pilot. it's believed the helicopter may have been a single-engine a-star made by airbus. the f-a-a and the n-t-s-b will

the fatal crash. a group of arabic- speaking men were kicked off of a southwest airlines flight in houston. flight one-26 was about to leave chicago... when passengers say a group of six to eight men made a fuss because they wanted to all sit together. according to the passengers, the men were of middle eastern descent and began instructing passengers who were already seated to move. that made some people nervous, including the pilot... who ultimately kicked them off of the plane. k-9's then searched the plane before it took off. in a statement, southwest airlines said the unruly passengers were rebooked on a later flight. authorities have made an arrest in a northwest iowa death. yesterday, the calhoun county attorney announced the arrest of 48-year-old freddy crisp, of pomeroy, iowa, in the death of a north dakota man. crisp is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 41-year old dale currie potter. potter's body was found on november 10th at a home in pomeroy. crisp is now in the sac county jail. charges have been dropped against a man who was arrested in october for a sioux

city shooting. 23-year-old mykale johnson was initially charged with aggravated domestic and carrying a weapon. johnson was involved in the shooting incident at the 1400 block of isabella street in sioux city in october. authorities said 35 year- old nadia broady and johnson were engaged in a mutual domestic assault, where a handgun was involved. during the struggle, the gun went off. johnson was shot in the hand, while an unnamed female was hit in the chest. broady has pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm, domestic abuse assault and reckless use of a firearm in an incident. a sioux city man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual abuse. investigators say 20-year- old alex anderson met up with the 13-year-old female victim at the icu waiting room at mercy medical center. he then kissed her several times and put his hand in her shorts. authorities charged anderson with 3rd-degree sexual abuse. officials at mercy say their security staff was alerted about the situation, and they called sioux city police.

a pretrial hearing is set for march 2016. a judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a woman charged following an arson-related fire. 28-year old cassie zoubek was set to stand trial on charges of witness tampering stemming from a felony second- degree arson conviction after zoubek was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison in july. zoubek pleaded guilty for her role in burning down a mobile home, in norfolk, in october 2014. on the witness tampering charge, zoubek is accused of asking a friend to lie about her whereabouts on the night the mobile home was set on fire. yesterday,a judge declared a mistrial after three of the jurors selected for the 12-person jury declared business and personal conflicts that could interfere with a potential trial. a new jury will be selected and a new trial date is expected to be set for december. authorities seized an arsenal, more than 500 firearms, from a home in central california. 59-year-old albert sheakalee was arrested because he had the guns illegally due to a "mental

not allowed to possess firearms. yesterday, state authorities confiscated more than 200 handguns, 88 shot guns, 230 rifles and ten assault weapons as well as dozens of magazines and more than 100-thousand rounds of ammunition. while some of the guns were registered many were not including the assault weapons. authorities say he used to sell the guns. sheakalee will face charges of illegally possessing firearms. traveling during the holiday season means you'll come in contact with a lot of people. coming up, we'll tell you what mode of transportatio n to take to avoid the crowds.

winter storm watch in effect friday from 6 am until midnight we will get to enjoy some sunshine today at the expense of very strong westerly winds that could very well gust upwards of 50 miles per hour! highs will be in the 40s today for the last time for a while as we prepare for our first major dose of winter weather. as of now, it looks like snow will begin to make its move across siouxland from west to east tomorrow morning and exit the viewing area by late tomorrow evening and is expected to drop anywhere from a couple of inches in southern and western siouxland up to 6-7 inches in parts of northern and eastern siouxland. cold weather will settle in behind that system and will yield lows in the teens and highs in the 20s and 30s this weekend before returning to the 40s with sunshine by early next week.

her world dark, she saw light. (sot: rebecca alexander, hearing and sight impaired) "i can always do anything i want to do as long as i have someone there with me and we all need help in some form." rebecca alexander has accomplished goals many of us can't even imagine doing. she recently finished the alcatrez swim for sight, climbed africa's highest peak, she's a cycling instructor, and an author. she's also almost completely deaf and blind, relying on cochlear implants and a cane. (sot: rebecca alexander, hearing and sight impaired) "a normally sighted person has 180 degrees of vision. i have about 10 degrees of my central most vision." alexander was born with a rare genetic disorder called usher syndrome type iii. doctors told her by age 30, she won't be able to see or hear at all. she's now 36. (sot: rebecca alexander, hearing and sight impaired) "when people often say to me, 'oh my gosh you only have 10 degrees of vision. i'm so sorry,' i feel like, 'oh my gosh i have 10 degrees of vision that's amazing!' i was told i would be completely blind by 30. i think we have a tendency to, especially in this culture, to see all the things we don't have as opposed to the things we do have." alexander is grateful for every sound, every sight, every sense. bringing her here to a medical convention, speaking before hundreds to share how she copes with her disease. and to encourage others to look at what you can do, not what you can't do. there aren't many syrian refugees in the three siouxland states... if any. officials in nebraska say they've had no syrian refugees through resettlement. in iowa, officials also report no syrian refugees this year. and south dakota hasn't had any in three years. the process of resettlement for refugees is a long one. "years usually," said amy abraham. "not usually a matter of months before they come here. i think that there already is a very strenuous screening process." some lawmakers don't see it that way, and blame the obama administration for the situation, today. the asia-pacific economic cooperation summit in manila today, a gathering that is supposed to bolster trade and security ties but have been clouded by the isis threat. today's meetings began with the customary family photo session where president barack obama took the opportunity to shake hands with chinese president xi jinping as they left on their way to the leaders' meeting room. a new fox news poll has donald trump with a wide lead among new hampshire republican voters. and it has bernie sanders leading among democrats. for the republican pack, the poll found trump with 27 percent support, followed by marco rubio with 13 percent, then ted cruz with 11 percent. for democrats, sanders got 45 percent support. hillary clinton followed closely behind with 44 percent. and martin o'malley came in a distant third with five percent support. fresh off his endorsement of republican presidential candidate ted cruz, western iowa congressman steve king will campaign for the texas senator, in sioux city, tomorrow.

an event, on the briar cliff university campus, tomorrow morning. they'll kick off a weekend of campaign stops at the stark student center at 10 o'clock. dr. ben carson will also campaign in northwest iowa tomorrow. he'll hold a rally at the airport, in spencer, iowa, at 3:30 in the afternoon. doors open at 2:30. the "second-in-command" of the jalisco new generation drug cartel has been arrested, mexico's federal police commissioner announced the arrest yesterday. at a news conference in mexico city, commissioner enrique galindo ceballos said ivan cazarin molina, 31, also known as victor hugo delgado renteria, was arrested in western jalisco after a six-month intelligence operation. former subway restaurant spokesman jared fogle will be sentenced today in an indiana courtroom. fogle pleaded guilty in august of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and the distribution and receipt of child pornography. the prosecution is seeking a 12

year prison sentence for fogle. fogle has agreed to serve at least five years... and court records show he is also willing to pay his 14 victims a total of 1 point 4 million dollars. united airlines appears to have support of the sioux gateway airport board of directors in its bid for federal funding to serve sioux city. in a letter to the department of transportatio n, airport board president darrel jesse acknowledges the enviable position they are in, quote "to be courted by two of the leading, world class airlines." united airlines, and american airlines, which currently serves sioux gateway, have both made bids for federal funds to serve sioux city under the essential air service program. but, united's bid is nearly one-million dollars less than the bid american submitted. jesse says he understands that the dot traditionally accepts the lower bid for service to chicago's o'hare airport. united has the lower bid. jesse says the airport board would support united's selection. uber will do more than get you from point a to b today. you may also be able to use the

service to help protect against the flu. in select cities -- people will be able to use the uber app to call for a flu shot. the fee is 10-dollars, and a nurse will travel to homes or offices to administer the vaccine. passport health will provide the registered nurses. uber expects to deliver about 10-thousand flu shots. the service will only be available today. face transplants are a rare occurance in the medical world. coming up next in healthbeat four, we'll show you one man who waited 14 years for his new face.

oil prices are falling again, and drivers may benefit at the pump. the price for a barrel of crude below 40 dollars yesterday for the first time since august. oil prices have fallen 14 percent this month alone. experts blame the drop on a massive supply glut from opec nations, as well as u-s oil production growth and a strong dollar. the low oil prices should mean good news for u-s drivers enjoying gas prices hovering around or below two dollars a gallon. the price of regular unleaded gasoline in iowa dropped 12 cents to close the week at $2.18 per gallon. but you can find it for as low as a buck-92 in prices are only slightly higher nebraska and south dakota.

traders are also encouraged by more corporate deal news. the dow gained more than 247 points to 17,737. the nasdaq jumped 89 points to close out at 5,075. and the s&p 500 rose 33 points to 2,083. amazon has an ambitious holiday shopping plan. it will roll out holiday deals every five minutes, starting tomorrow through black friday. last year, promotions were launched every ten minutes and didn't start until the friday after thanksgiving. amazon will host up to ten deals on thanksgiving, and ten more on black friday, plus more than 150 limited-time "lightning deals" on its mobile shopping app. deals include up to 45- percent off samsung and lg tv's, and half off toy brands including barbie and hot wheels. after a 30-year-absence from the u-s market, the fiat spider is making a comeback. fiat unveiled the reborn version of its 124 spider yesterday at the los angeles auto show. the

original model had adoring fans, but also a reputation for mechanical troubles. that gave rise to the common joke that fiat stood for "fix it again, tony." the new spider shares significant engineering with mazda's m-x-5 miata, thanks to a partnership between the automakers. the hope is that the partnership will help the new spider avoid some of the old model's reliability issues. blue bell ice cream is taking a key step in its recovery after a deadly listeria outbreak was linked to its products this year. the company recalled its entire product line in april after three people died. but this week, it reopened its plant in brenham texas, which was closed for months for cleaning. that's good news for employees, 70 of whom are back to work at the plant after a long furlough. roughly 14-hundred blue bell employees were laid off nationwide after the outbreak. we have a lot more to come on news 4 today. when we come back we'll have the stories making

students involved with 'rock chalk invisible hawk' made the demands for administrators to improve the environment at the university. that includes the creation of a mandatory 'inclusion and belonging training' for students and staff - and banning concealed weapons on campus. although the group's efforts appear to mirror what's happening at the university of missouri - the students say their organization actually formed more than a year ago - but they felt now was the time to act. both the provost and chancellor of the university have promised change- but students involved in the movement say they're still waiting to see action. at least three students were injured yesterday when a school bus crashed north of houston. the bus was carrying students from an intermediate school when the accident occurred. aerial video shows at least two people being taken on stretchers to waiting ambulances. others were being checked out on the scene. the cause is being investigated. at least two people are dead after a helicopter goes down in southern california. the crash at the mcclellan-palomar airport in carlsbad happened yesterday

afternoon. the chopper could be seen spinning out of control while on the ground before the blades broke off and fire engulfed the aircraft. the pilot was reportedly trying to land on a helicopter landing cart. a helicopter instructor who knew the man flying the craft says he was a new pilot. it's believed the helicopter may have been a single-engine a-star made by airbus. the f-a-a and the n-t-s-b will investigate the cause of the fatal crash. a group of arabic- speaking men were kicked off of a southwest airlines flight in houston. flight one-26 was about to leave chicago... when passengers say a group of six to eight men made a fuss because they wanted to all sit together. according to the passengers, the men were of middle eastern descent and began instructing passengers who were already seated to move. that made some people nervous, including the pilot... who ultimately kicked them off of the plane. k-9's then searched the plane before it took off. in a statement, southwest airlines said the unruly passengers were rebooked on a later flight. a pomeroy, iowa man has been

death of another man last week. 48-year-old freddy crisp is charged with first- degree murder in the death of 41-year old dale currie potter of north dakota. potter was found dead of a gunshot wound at a home in pomeroy on november 10th. crisp is now in the sac county jail. charges have been dropped against a man who was arrested in october for a sioux city shooting. 23-year-old mykale johnson was initially charged with aggravated domestic and carrying a weapon. johnson was involved in the shooting incident at the 1400 block of isabella street in sioux city in october. authorities said 35 year- old nadia broady and johnson were engaged in a mutual domestic assault, where a handgun was involved. during the struggle, the gun went off. johnson was shot in the hand, while an unnamed female was hit in the chest. broady has pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm, domestic abuse assault and reckless use of a firearm in an incident. a sioux city man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual abuse. investigators say 20-year- old alex anderson met up with the 13-year-old female

center. he then kissed her several times and put his hand in her shorts. authorities charged anderson with 3rd-degree sexual abuse. officials at mercy say their security staff was alerted about the situation, and they called sioux city police. a pretrial hearing is set for march 2016. a judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a woman charged following an arson-related fire. 28-year old cassie zoubek was set to stand trial on charges of witness tampering stemming from a felony second- degree arson conviction after zoubek was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison in july. zoubek pleaded guilty for her role in burning down a mobile home, in norfolk, in october 2014. on the witness tampering charge, zoubek is accused of asking a friend to lie about her whereabouts on the night the mobile home was set on fire. yesterday,a judge declared a mistrial after three of the jurors selected for the 12-person jury declared business and personal conflicts that could interfere with a potential trial. a new jury will be

selected and a new trial date is authorities seized an arsenal, more than 500 firearms, from a home in central california. 59-year-old albert sheakalee was arrested because he had the guns illegally due to a "mental health hold" and therefore is not allowed to possess firearms. yesterday, state authorities confiscated more than 200 handguns, 88 shot guns, 234 rifles and ten assault weapons as well as dozens of magazines and more than 100-thousand rounds of ammunition. while some of the guns were registered many were not including the assault weapons. authorities say he used to sell guns. sheakalee will face charges of illegally possessing firearms. a nevada woman who is almost completely blind and deaf is accomplishing things most of us can only dream of doing. we'll have her story after the

accomplished goals many of us can't even imagine doing. she recently finished the alcatrez swim for sight, climbed africa's highest peak, she's a cycling instructor, and an author. she's also almost completely deaf and blind, relying on cochlear implants and a cane. (sot: rebecca alexander, hearing and sight impaired) "a normally sighted person has 180 degrees of vision. i have about 10 degrees of my central most vision." alexander was born with a rare genetic disorder called usher syndrome type iii. doctors told her by age 30, she won't be able to see or hear at all. she's now 36. (sot: rebecca alexander, hearing and sight impaired) "when people often say to me, 'oh my gosh you only have 10 degrees of vision. i'm so sorry,' i feel like, 'oh my gosh i have 10 degrees of vision that's amazing!' i was told i would be completely blind by 30. i think we have a tendency to, especially in this culture, to see all the things we don't have as opposed to the things we do have." alexander is grateful for every sound, every sight, every sense.

twitter monday. pete ricketts asked his state not participate in the resettlement of syrian refugees. in south dakota, dennis daugaard wants the federal government to re-examine background checks... adding "it's very unlikely any syrian refugees end up in south dakota." at the mary treglia house, in sioux city, workers help immigrants, from many nations, adapt to new communities. amy abraham is an immigrant lawyer there. she says she's saddened by the governors' remarks. "i understand the sentiment behind it," said amy abraham. "these people are fleeing isis, or depending on where they're from. they're fleeing horrible situations. they're victims, most all of them." there aren't many syrian refugees in the three siouxland states... if any. officials in nebraska say they've had no syrian refugees through resettlement. in iowa, officials also report no syrian refugees this year.

"not usually a matter of months before they come here. i think that there already is a very strenuous screening process." some lawmakers don't see it that way, and blame the obama administration for the situation, today. cartel has been arrested, mexico's federal police commissioner announced the arrest yesterday. at a news conference in mexico city, commissioner enrique galindo ceballos said ivan cazarin molina, 31, also known as victor hugo delgado renteria, was arrested in western jalisco after a six-month intelligence operation. former subway restaurant spokesman jared fogle will be sentenced today in an indiana courtroom. fogle pleaded guilty in august of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and the distribution and receipt of child pornography. the prosecution is seeking a 12 and a half year prison sentence for fogle. fogle has agreed to serve at least five years... and court records show he is also willing to pay his 14 victims a total of 1 point 4 million dollars. united airlines appears to have support of the sioux gateway airport board of directors in its bid for federal funding to serve sioux city. in a letter to the department of transportatio n, airport board president

darrel jesse acknowledges the enviable position they are in, quote "to be courted by two of the leading, world class airlines." united airlines, and american airlines, which currently serves sioux gateway, have both made bids for federal funds to serve sioux city under the essential air service program. but, united's bid is nearly one-million dollars less than the bid american submitted. jesse says he understands that the dot traditionally accepts the lower bid for service to chicago's o'hare airport. united has the lower bid. jesse says the airport board would support united's selection. uber will do more than get you from point a to b today. you may also be able to use the service to help protect against the flu. in select cities -- people will be able to use the uber app to call for a flu shot. the fee is 10-dollars, and a nurse will travel to homes or offices to administer the vaccine. passport health will provide the registered nurses. uber expects to deliver about 10-thousand flu shots. the service will only be
