(matt) conditions along interstate-29 (sheila) ktiv's sam curtiss caught up with a few professional drivers. what are they saying about the driving conditions, tonight? you'd be hard-pressed right now not to find a truck stop or rest area filled with truckers parked for the night. most said if you don't have to be out there driving, then don't. two of the truckers i spoke with came from opposite ways. one starting in sioux falls and headed south, the other headed north hitting weather around omaha. both said the road was sluluy, but as the sun set, , ings got y. "bad," said bryan faaborg. "a lot of cars in the ditch, [a] lot of trucks in the ditch. earlier today i almost got hit a couple times. people come up tailing. it wasn't very good at

was really ready for it." faaborg did say he thinks the first snowfall of the year is when he sees the worst winter drivers. he added that since many share the interstate with semi trucks. remember to give yourself a some room-- a wide "buffer"-- between your car and their truck. because even when it's nice, they can't stop on a dime. matt, shelia. (sheila) they're working 24/7 to get the job done. they work 12-hour shifts... 7 a-m to 7 p-m... and then 7 p-m to 7 a-m. there are almost 50 pieces of snow equipment in the sioux city streets department, with 18 of those being the spreader trucks. they drop salt, and sand... and have blades to plow those streets. they're the ones first on the streets and last on the streets. the sioux city streets

"they're out there on the nights, they're out there on the weekends, they're out there on the holidays- me away from their f fily and friends and events so o think highly of them," said sioux city streets superintendent, ed pickens. he says teamwork is big for their department. the driver we followed, today, has plowed sioux city's streets for 5-years. so, this isn't his first winter storm. "the hardest part is just tryinin to make e it where people cacaget around that's the hardest t tng for me and everybody has such a big area. a day like today as soon as you&make a pass, it's coated again," said sioux city operater one, jeremy groves. those workers will continue to plow the streets through the night and into tomorrow. as city crews tend to the streets here in sioux city, plows are hard at work on the highways and interstates. most roads in northwest iowa and northeast nebraska are listed as "completely covered" by snow at this hour. and, the south dakota dot says roads in the

southeastern part of the state a covered by ice and snow, and are slippery. earlier, the state didn't advise any travel on state highways, or interstates. log onto ktiv-dot-com, and click on the "weather" tab to find links to the latest road conditions for all three siouxland states. as ron mentioned a few minutes ago, siouxland was in the bullseye of this winter storm. take a look at these pictures from sioux rapids, iowa, this morning. this was the scene about 9-30 on u-s highway 71 looking north from sioux rapids, iowa. police chief tim porter sent us this video with the advice to travelers to "slow down and take your time". sioux falls saw record snowfall, today. snow started at about 7 a.m. by noon there was more than 10 inches on the southern end of sioux falls. by 5pm the total snowfall on the south side of sioux falls was whopping 14-inches of snow. the heaviest snow fell across northwest iowa, and southeast south dakota. but, central iowa is digging out from under a half- a-foot of new snow.

officially, 5.8 inches of new snow fell in iowawa capital city. norfolk, nebraska, missed out on the heaviest of the snow. the flakes started flying in norfolk this morning, and tapered off by early afternoon. that amounted to a little more than two inches of snow. midnight it has been a snowy day in siouxland with the heaviest snow falling to the north. just south of sioux falls, places like harrisburg, sd reported 17 inches of snow! so northern siouxland will end up with over a foot with those amounts going down the farther south you move. the snow will be tapering off over the next few hours and come to an end early tonight. (sheila) an already agreed upon 90-million dollar expansion of a biodiesel plant is growing. (matt) ag processing inc., and woodbury county supervisors, amended the previous deal today. officials say the plan is to expand their biodiesel operation, which adds more value to soybeananin the arar. agp plans to invest t 28- million in captial improvements. that's $38-million more than before. doing so will add a few extra jobs, and increase the tax value. "adding $20,000,000 to the tax base will help the local taxpayers either through some return of those taxes to th eproperty owners or

ronald mcdonald visited nodland to speak to the students about friendship to beat bullying. the program is called "a friendship adventure with ronald mcdonald." it works to encourage students to be friends and shows them how to support each other. ronald spoke with students about their behavior inside and outside of school. he told them how important respect and effective communicatio n i iwith their friends, parents, and teachers. "today i'm going to be visiting with the kids about well ways to deal with an ugly subject-- bullies. they're bullies everywhere and we want to help kids be able to deal with them. see, when a bully starts picking on you, if you walk away, that's a better way to deal with them then to confront them. you could also say please stop then go tell somebody, but the best way to beat a bully is to be a friend," said ronald mcdonald. ronald also planned to visit akron-westfield and river valley community school today. tonight, was the big fundraiser for sioux city's ronald mcdonald house. the marina inn hosted the "denim to diamonds" event. the snow couldn't keep people from the fundraiser. our formrmr colleague christyy

sioux city police still looking for a robbery suspect tonight. (sheila) sioux city police responded to a call around noon from the employee at k & n auto repair near 19th and center. the employee says a man came inside the shop and asked the employee to look at his car. the employee went aroundhe corner with him. that's where the employee says the man pulled a gun he gave the man his wallet and the suspect then ran away. a sioux city man has been abuse and indecent exposure involving a 7- year-old girl. 21-year-old zachery williams was charged with assault to commit exposure. he was arrested for incident on nov. 5th. court documents say williams was babysitting a four and seven year old. he took the older girl

to the bathroom and explosed himself. investigators sahe took off the girl's pants and kissed her. today, a macy, nebraska man received 5-years probation after authorites say his daughter ate methamphetam ine. victor ray miller was convicted for negligent child abuse. prosecutors say in october while wawahing his -month-old he shot up meth. bu he left the baggie within the reach of his child. the girl was released from the hospital after three days of treatment. a northeast nebraska man has died after a one-vehicle crash. the antelope county sheriff says it happened east of neligh along highway 275 wednesday afternoon north of the elkhorn river bridge. investigators douglas halsey's vehicle was partly submerged in water. halsey who was from tilden was 66-years old. the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
