"watch out," screamed the sledder. sertoma park in sioux city was packed with sledders and a few snowboarder s. many coming out to enjoy the snow before it melts. sertoma park is one of two public places in sioux city to legally sled, the other is grandview park. some say it's a great family atmosphere and it was tough to find a kid who didn't enjoy it. "pretty fun but once you wipe out on a snowboard it kind of hurts," said tristan monk. "it was intense at first because the snow just hit ya, ya know," said dominic eastman signs at those parks designate where and when you can sled. sledding was happening from the west to the eastern part of the state. several families out today at allison henderon park and bunker hill golf course in dubuque...enoying the snow by sledding. last year, the city of dubuque banned sledding at most of parks because of worries over lawsuits if someone got hurt. parents say

most siouxlanders are dealing with the first winter storm of the season. but, a number of residents in sioux center, iowa took on the storm without power. community members say they heard what sounded like an "explosion." ktiv's tommie clark was on scene this morning and brings us late details.

could be several days before everyone has their power back." once on scene, firefighters found no fire to control, because the damage was done. nce then they've been working with the city to restore power. "it's a major undertaking to try to accomplish all of that and get power and service back to people because now we're into winter and we want to make sure people are taken care of," said sioux center city manager, paul clousing. >> in the mean time, the red cross has set up a shelter at sioux center community high school. residents of sioux center are helping out too "i woke up and my power was on that was probably at about 9 o'clock this morning. but for the others in town i might run up there a little bit later and find out if there's anything we can pitch in and help out with," said sioux center resident, john renken. the core area without power was in the center of the city from 3rd street down to 9th street. but, most folks in that area should see power tonight. for now, officials are stressing safety to people. they say not to panic, but rather be patient. city officials want to remind residents to conserve water through the evening. and, residents who live in the parts of the community that are unlikely to get power restored--need to monitor their home temperature. officials don't think freezing pipes should be a concern, but they want to remind people to not let their house get low 30 degrees. "it's amazing not even four, five days ago we were wearing short sleeve t-shirts now we have a foot of snow and we're worried about people being cold in their house...what do ya do," said sioux center community high school principal, gary mceldowney. in the next few days the city will make permananet repairs to the damaged substation. in addition to the second substation, a temporary substation has been set up to help residents still without power. turning our attention overseas, a terrorist attack on a hotel in the west african nation of mali killed at least

theatre tomorrow afternoon. briar cliff professor dr. richard steinbach will be playing his new album called "fususn" for the first time on a stage in siouxland. he actually premiered the album during a show at carnegie hall in new york city back in june. earlier this year, ktiv's ron demers featured him in a special report. he use to be ron's piano instructor at briar cliff. the two even played a duet. tomorrow's performance at the orpheum theatre starts at 4:00 p.m. still to come here on news 4 at 10 fans in iowa city braved the cold weather with a chance to see the hawkeyes remain perfect.
