(matt) thanks for joining us, (sheila) and, i'm sheila brummer. tonight, republican presidential hopeful carly fiorina stopped in sioux city to stump for support at a private house party. (matt) talk turned to syrian refugees, and the president's plan to let united states. ktiv's robert lowe was at the what did the former hewlett packard ceo say about that possibility? matt and sheila, fiorina says allowing undocumented and not vetted refugees into america poses a serious national security threat. she says president obama threatening to veto a house bill that blocks syrian and iraqi refugees from entering the country unless they pass a background check would be a critical mistake. country." we know that the paris attacks, in part, some of the attackers came in streams of refugees," said republican presidential candidate carly last week, when asked by breitbart news if she believed congress should defund president obama's syrian refugee resettlement program, fiorina said, quote "we have to do whatever is necessary to ensure that we do not have terrorists coming into this nation.. period", end fiorina suggested the united states help lead humanitarian relief efforts to where they are. "we have predicted these refugee flows. we know there're are 55 million people on the move; so, we could galvanize private sector companies, red cross and others to lead a humanitarian relief effort. we've done it before, we're just not doing it now," said fiorina. fiorina went onto say they it'll be very difficult to allow undocumented refugees into america, but quote "let's see if they can come up with one," end quote. matt and sheila.

nbc has agreed to give four republican candidates free time on affiliates three early voting states, including iowa. that's aftft they complained donald trump benefited from appearing as "saturday night live" host earlier this month. today, the network said john kasich, mike huckabee, jim gilmore and lindsey graham will each get about 12 minutes of time to tout their candidacies during prime- time on friday and saturday, and during this week's "saturday night live." the candidates said they deserved the time to counter trump's appearance in a non-news setting, based on federal equal time provisions. the u-s state department is warning travelers of the increased risk to americans traveling abroad. an updated travel alert was issued today because of increased terrorist threats overseas. it says terrorist groups like isis, al-qaeda, and boko haram are planning attacks in multiple regions. the alert advises american citizens, who travel, to avoid crowds and be vigilant in public places. the updated travel alert expires on february 24th.

(matt) governorterry branstad issued a disaster proclamation for sioux county in response to winter storms over the weekend. (sheila) the governor's proclamation allows state sources to be utilized to respond and recover from the storm. during the storm, an electrical distribution transformer box explosion coupled with a water main break and other electrical failures resulted in damage to public property and power outages throughout sioux center. this state of disaster emergency will expire on december 5th. the superintenden t of sioux city's public schools says, in hindsight, he would have dismissed schools early last friday... as weather conditions worsened. instead, schools stayed in session. and, as snsn fell, and local roads went from bad to worse, some students were stuck at schools waiting for parents to pick them up. others were on school buses that slowly made stops until after dark. in a statement, dr. paul gausman said decisions, like this one, are among the "most second- guessed and criticized calls" he makes. and, gausman admitted that sometimes he "makes

decisions that are better than others." but, gausman defended his decision. he said the "weather is not only challenging at times, it is constantly changing." and, on friday, gausman said the "timing of the storm was constantly changing." that led to his decision to finish the school day. gausman also o inted out the school policy that allows parents and guardians to pick up their child, at any time, on any day, if they feel it's unsafe for their student to be in school because of the weather. you can read gausman's full statement, for yourself, by going to ktiv-dot-com, and clicking on this story. authorities in denison, iowa looking for an armed robbery suspect. the robbery happened early this morning in parking lot in the 1200 block of north 26th street. the suspect is a skinny black man in his early to mid 20s, 5 feet 2 to 5 feet 4 inches tall and wearing a black hoodie and black beanie-style hat. he pulled out a gun and took money from the victim. the victim wasn't hurt during the incident. alcoholism is a growing issue that brought together law enforcement and the native american community today.

sioux city police chief and the directct of the four seasons community center led a dialogue to see what steps can be taken. so far this year native americans make up nearly half of the public intoxication arrests in sioux city. whites came in second with almost a-third of the arrests. there has been an increase in arrests among native americans in sioux city over the last few years. today's meetetg was meant to fight this increree. "it's easy to point at the homeless, easy to point at the addicted, easy to point at nobody who- those who have no hope," said frank lamere, director of the four directions community center. "but what can we do change it? and all of us here have commitment to it, but i don't know how much of resources we have." for those who are suffering from alcoholism or other types of substance abuse, there are options. jackson recover center provides adult and adolescent inpatient and outpatient programs. sioux city. siouxlanders stopped to hear holiday music, while bidding on specially decorated holiday trees, which were donated by local companies, organizations and individuals. the proceeds benefit the siouxland autism support groro. "it's great to have the community turn out supporting events that are helping others through the season and after the season," said maryann niemeier. you can see the trees through thursday, december 3rd at the ho- chunk centre. . ey'll hold a live auction starting at 6:30pm. exercise is not only safe during pregnancy ... a leading group of doctors says it's necessary to reduce pregnancy- related complications. (sheila) the american college of obgyns has issued new recommendations focused on obesity and physical activity in pregnant women. pregnant women who are obese are at an increased risk of heart problems, sleep apnea, gestational diabetes, blood clots and pre- eclampsia. the group says even small amounts of weight loss may help. they recommend modified yoga and pilates, strength training and light running or jogging. as with any recommendati ons -- talk to your doctor. breastfeeding may protect against type 2 diabetes in women who've had high blood sugar while pregnant. gestational diabetes affects about 250-thousand women in the u-s every year... and occurs only during pregnancy. however -- it increases the risk a woman will go on to develop type 2 diabetes. researchers analyzed data on more than a thousand women. they found those who breastfed their babies for at least two months cut their risk of type 2

spirit lake's offense was clicking all day in the uni-dome. it's tied at 7 in the first quarter - logan backhaus hands off to tyler jenness on the sweep - giving the indians a 14-7 lead. then backhaus went back to work - pushing his was through the line for the td and a 21-7 spirit lake lead. backhaus - the quarterback - can throw, too - to the corner of the end zone for billy brown - gets the feet down - it's 28-7. after mount vernon gets a touchdown - backhaus goes back to his legs - scrambling in from 11 yards out on the read-option keeper. and then to close the half, backhaus pops a 33-yard touchdown run - spirit lake led 42-14 at the half. there were 18 touchdowns scores in the game -- the indians had ten of them and - spirit lake wins the 2a state championship,70 to 56. the lead, 14-7. but regina gets two quick scores to end the half - isaac vollstedt with the 72-yard run - the regals lead at the break, 21-14. third quarter - wolfpack down by two touchdowns - but on 4th and 11 - kooima throws it up - ben gesink wins the jump ball and western is back within 7. western down 2 scores in the fourth -- kooima finds gesink again - his fourth td pass - western christian, down just 35-28. regina trying to run out the clock late in the fourth - with a seam - but justin hunter fumbles - the wolfpack recover to get one more chance. but the 4th down pass is incomplete - and western has to settle for second place, 35-28. "we got the ball back and we wanted to score again," said western christian qb tyson kooima. "we moved the ball pretty well but then at the end they played some pretty good defense.' "i'm no quitter, i would never have walked away, i wouldn't have walked away from the job, i wouldn't have walked away from the opportunity to coach these young men one more time," said rhoads. "we made the decision to make the change because we simply didn't win enough games and we weren't trending in the right

direction," said isu athletics director jamie pollard. rhoads will coach the cyclones in their final game saturday at west virginia. he had six years left on his contract and will get a 4-point-5 million dollar buyout. south dakota head football coach joe glenn announced his retirement this morning. the 66-year old compiled 200 wins and 134 losses in 28 seasons as a head coach. glenn came back to coach his alma mater as the coyotes moved to division one -- he was 12-34 in four seasons at south dakota. "the time was right. you just feel it, you know it," said glenn.
