for 13 years, a walk through the streets of siouxland has brought together the community to honor a special group of people. "the march to honor lost children" recognizes native american children and other children tribal members say have been lost to foster care and adoption. there are three children who have been honored throughout the years who died under foster care. larissa star and hannah thomas died about 15 years ago.

and nathaniel saunsoci. the 20-month-old who died in 2006. he sustained severe head injuries while living in a a foster home in south sioux city. today, was a day of remembering those three children and others in the foster care and adoption system. ktiv's tiffany lane was at the war eagle monument this morning where marchers began their trek throughout sioux city. tiffany? sheila, it was a peaceful and prayerful march, with a goal...to reconnect foster and adopted children...and reconnect them with their families.

beginning and he says some children who aren't with their biological families will see this and hopefully reconnect with them. one family hoping to reconnect with theiriroved one through the march was delphine o'connor and her son michael. delphine says her granddaughter maria helena flores was taken into foster care nearly 20 years ago. she says during that time, an injury caused maria to become quadriplegic. "i would consider her lost as one of the lost children and in our family since we don't have that contact with her and d relate to that to a lot of our families out there right now," said michael o'connor, a member of the yankton sioux tribe. maria's story was just one of many shared by the marchers wednesday morning. su "organizers say this isn't only a day to remember those who are lost, but also for future generations." "there's still disproportionate numbers of our children in foster care," said lamere, organizer of the march to honor lost children. "disproportionate numbers of our children are bebeg adopted. and i thihi that we need to be vigilant, elevate the discussion." and for the marchers, spreading that message is just one step in their

there were multiple stops for the marchers along their route today. two of t tm included the siouxland center for active generations and the the woodbury county courthouse. there were prayers for the children at each stop. sheila? thanks, tiffany. the cold weather did not prevent people from out-of-town from coming to support the cause. there were people who traveled from oklahoma city, des moines and other areas outside siouxland to raise awareness. one e n came from omaha to be a papa of the march. "i feel like people look over this like people look over this a lot," said petejanda, an omaha, nebraska resident. the national restaurant association says four- million people last year ordered out for their entire thanksgiving meal. and, today many businesses busy filling orders today. ktiv's sam curtiss joins us live from one of those places.. sam. sheila, that report also estimated 14 million people bought part of their meal from somewhere. today, i got a look behind the scenes at a local hy-vee and how much goes into getting dinner on the table. there's no lack of detail in getting these thanksgiving meals ready. "these days can be a little bit challenging," said al metz. "we have to multi-task many, many, many things," said al metz. "about 3,500 pounds of turkey, about a 1,000 pounds of potatos, couple hundred gallons of gravy and a couple hundred pounds of dressing," said al metz. using an army of people. you walked in the door because your break is going to be when you go home," said al metz. and the mind of a man who's done this a few times. "i've seen many, many turkeys millions of pounds of turkeys ago," said al metz. "holidays take no break which means the cook takes no break," said al metz. assembling hundreds of dinners that'll be sharededn thursday. "about a 150 so far," said cruz ochoa. "we starard this like a week a a putting g e regular boxes together," said cruz ochoa. "i think we're going on the 24th hour of putting packs together," said cruz ochoa. "three to five minutes for each package to put together," said cruz ochoa. which will feed a lot of mouths. "well we're doing it for like 200 families so you could imagine how that is ififou've ever cooked one for one family," said taylor jenness. "15 different sides," said taylor jenness. "six different types of meats." "oh your brain is fried after this," said taylor jenness. as orders pile-up... "there's a good amount of last- minute ones," said taylor jenness. "we're actually busier," said al metz. "i think people just lili to take it easy."

and space becomes limited "you couldn't even get into the cooler whatsoever for a while there," said taylor jenness. working to fill the next order. "to make sure everything's right before they walk out the door," said al metz. (sheila) thanks, sam. siouxland shoppers are also hitting the stores for some last minute items. the hy-vee on hamilton was busy tonight with customers picking out the last few things on their thanksgiving shopping lists. "i have some laststinute things. i wanna make myypies, and i got the best seasoning. my son told me about the best seasoning rub for a turkey, so

this turkey is gonna be special." said shopper lynette cook. many grocery stores around siouxland will be open to accommodate those last minute trips. since most people eat turkey on thanksgiving.. business is booming for one iowa turkey farmer. for more than 30 years chuck brockmann has been selling fresh thanksgiving birds in eastern iowa. and this year demand has been way up because of the large number of flocks that were wiped out from the bird flu. more than 400 of his turkeys will end up on the diner table. still to come... informed consent is an area health professional need to pay attention to. that's the focus of tonight's

including sioux city winter storm warning in effect thanksgiving day from 9 am to 9 pm for harrison & shelby counties the timing isn't great, but there is going to be a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow that will cause travel problems for our thanksgiving day. travel will be okay this evening and early tonight so that is going to be the best time to be getting to your destination. it's later tonight that drizzle and fog will start to turn to freezing rain and sleet as temperatures get colder (probably after 3 am in sioux city). much of the area will then see morning freezing rain and sleet which will then turn to snow from north to south as the day goes along. because the freezing rain lingers longer in southern siouxland, the ice accumulation will be greater with up to a quarter inch of ice expected and thus a winter storm warning for that area. central siouxland, including sioux city, is under a winter weather advisory for up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation followed by 1 to 2 inches of snow. this system moves out early thursday night leaving friday dry. still be careful on friday of some leftover slick areas though! we'll keep our weather quiet into the weekend with maybe a little more light snow by monday. still to come... tonight's law review is all about informed consent.

health professionals need follow a very specific set of rules when it comes to treating their patients. "informed consent" is an area that they have to pay particular attention to. that's the focus of "law review". here's ktiv's matt breen.

do i need to know to implement meaningful i iormed consent? "before initiatiti any procedure relating to the treatment of a patient, you must obtain the patient's informed consent to perform the procedure," said jeana goosmann, goosmann law firm. "meaningful informed consent is more than just obtaining a patient's signature on a piece of paper." what information does a physician need to give a patient? "physicians must provide patients with detailed information about risks, benefits, and alternatives including the optptn of doing nothing," goosmannnnaid. "then the patient should be allowed the opportunity to ask questions to the physician." what does the consent form address? "the majority of informed consent forms do not adequately address potential risks and benefits of procedures," goosmann said. "as a result they leave physicians and health care professionals vulnerable to liability claims." what should health care e ofessionals do to protect thememlves? do not rely upon a generic consent form,"

goosmann said. "be specific. use plain language that patients can understand and explain any medical terms. be detailed. include risks, benefits, and alternative treatment options. be upfront and honest. and, allow the patient time to weigh the risks and benefits before signing." can a consent form be handled by clerical staff? "it is not simply an intake form that should be handled by clerical staff," said goosmann. friday -- there will be national title implications and bowl bids on the line. both teams have a lot to lose. the hawks have lost six of their last seven games against the huskers, including a 37-34 overtime loss last year in iowa city, after leading by 17 points. the hawkeyes are 11 and 0 this year and moved up to fourth in the playoff standings, which means if they win out -- they'll be a near-lock to be in the playoffs. a win would also give iowa their first undefeated regular season in 93 years. iowa knows it won't be easy. "i know ever since i've been here, this is my fourth year now, the previous three years, every time we've played this team they've been good games," said iowa quarterback c.j. beathard. "i would expect the same with this game." "we didn't finish last year," said iowa safety jordan lomax. "we've done a good job of doing that so far this year. it's only right that we come out here and finish this game." "it's just another step," said iowa wide receiver matt vandeberg. "it's something we work on each week, is to go out there and win each game. so far we've been able to do that and again, we just got to go out and do our job." nebraska needs a win to become bowl eligible. nebraska has won two in a row

and had a bye last week. ve of the huskers sisilosses have been by a total of 13 points and they're just one-point underdogs to the hawkeyes. first year head coach mike riley says the close losses hurt, but he's not playing the 'what if' game. "we are where we are right now. we can't redeem those games or get them back in any way, so what we try to do as coaches is continue to grow and play our best game," said nebraska head coach mike riley. "what the players need to do is do that too. i think we've done that." 18 huskers seniors will play their last game at memorial stadium. the game kicks off at 2- 30 on friday. prosecutors have decided not to chargegenyone in connection with an alleged rape at the home of nebraska quarterback tommy armstrong and receiver jordan westerkamparlier this month. lincoln officials said the evidence didn't support filing charges. a 20-year-old woman went to a hospital november 15th and said she had been raped. the woman told police she knows the suspect. officers contacted all six people who were at the home at the time. the hawkeye memes basketball is also unbeaten.

on dayton in the eight-team advocare invitational in orlando, florida on thanksgiving night, which also features three ranked teams. the hawks have won their first three games by an average of 26 points -- but dayton is also 3 and 0, and also played in the ncaa tournament last season.
