(s/ voxpop / protester) "we are trying to make people see this is wrong the system is wrong and things need to be changed." change that's required for deep wounds and frustrations to heal. wendy woolfolk, nbc news chicago. >> a judge ruled that the former officer would remain in jail without bail at least until the next hearing which is scheduled for monday. an orange city man has filed a federal

lawsuit over a traffic stop in northwest iowa. levi wilson -- who is of indian descent -- accuses police of racial profiling for pointing weapons at him and his y yng son during the stop last year. investigators say they were looking for wilson's brother, david wilson, who is a sex offender and was wanted on outstanding warrants. invesitgators say the brothers sometimes drove the same truck. a northeast nebraska man is going to prison for stealing cattle. timothy ketelsen from bloomfield was sentenced to five to eight years. the 44-year-old pleaded guilty in september to charges of tax evasion, theft and illegal sale of livestock. ketelsen's former boss reported that 13 head of cattle had been stolen from his feedlot. besides the prison time, ketelsen was ordered to pay more than $75,000 in restitution. a judge has sentenced an emmetsburg, iowbanker involved in a banking scheme. 62-year-old richard jones got 14 months in federal prison. during court proceedings it was revealed jones defrauded iowa trust and savings

vice-president of the bank from 2003 to 2010. prosecutors say jones forged signatures of unknowing bank customers. the mother of a young girl killed by her daycare provider in orange city, iowa is speaking out about a judge's recent ruling. the sioux county attorney says he won't appeal the decision to cut rochelle sapp's 100-year prison sentence in half. last year, sapp pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment charges. three-year-old autumn elgersma died in 2013. at the time, a plea deal dropped a first-degree murder charge. sapp had agreed to back-to-back 50-year sentences. in october, a district judge cut down the sentence by allowing then to run at the same time. autumn's mother says she is upset about the judge's decision, but there's nothing the family can do about it. it's very unfortunate that judge jacobson took it upon himself to change what was very clearly written out in a plea agreement i don't think it's in

reconsider the sentence." said, jennifer elgersma, autumn's mother. jennifer elgersma says sharing autumn's story about the history and pattern of abuse she suffered has helped h h family to heal. 3:04 "we'll do whatever we can toto help people realize the gravity of the situation. we need to stop child abuse there is no reason for it and there's no excuse for it." elgersma says the board of parole should ve been the one to c cnge the sentence not the judge. but, she agreed with the sioux county attorney not to file an appeal. sioux city fire rescue trying to figure out the cause of a blaze that broke out yesterday morning in morningside. when crews arrived on the scene near south rustin and vine they saw smoke coming from the home. it appears the fire started in the kitchen, went up to the ceiling, and into the attic. no one was home with the fire broke out, but there was a cat

but the family's dog died in the fire. a community gathered yesterday to march in honor of native american children. every year the "march to honor lost children" recognizes children some tribal members say have been lost to adoption and foster care. the peaceful walk started at the war eagle monument in sioux city. "there's still disproportionate numbers of our children in foster care," said frank lamere, organizer of the march to honor lost children. "disproportionate numbers of our children are being adopted. and i think that we need to be vigilant." this is the 13th year for the annual event. the cold weather didn't keep people from out-of- town from coming to support the cause. there were people who traveled from oklahoma city, des moines and other areas outside siouxland to raise awareness.s. one man came from omaha to be a part of the march. "i feel like people look over this like people look over this a lot," said peter janda, an omaha, nebraska resident. "i mean it's kinda sad to see what's happening and seeing what's happening to these children and i think that people should take a stand."

so much more than just going on a walk and that it was important for him to participate. yesterday was the 30th anniversary of a tragic plane crash in des moines involving the iowa state university cross country team. "nats bag pipe" 3 atatetes, 2 coaches, an athletic trainer, and the isu pilot were all killed while returning from a cross country meet in milwaukee. on wednesday, a group of runners and cyclone nation gathered to remember the team. they finished a surprising second in the nc-aa national meet. one victim was athletic trainer stephanie streit who was planning to go to medical school. streit was from hawarden, iowa. her close friend spoke to surviving members of the 1985 team. "to the iowa state cross country

wanted you to be successful, she loved you, and you rocked it that day." after the ceremony people laid roses on the site of the crash. a permanent memorial is planned for the site to remember the victims. the cause of the crash was attributed to icing on the plane's wings. also, killed in the crash was sheryl maahs from spirit lake, iowa. she was a runner on the team. words nobody wants to hear after they get off of a long flight... rehabilitate their lives we traveled to springfield, south dakota to show you prisoners doing hard time training dogs to help veterans in need. ktiv's sheila brummer has the story.

the program is called "partners for patriots". a non-profit group providing service dogs for wounded and disabled veterans. (nat of rocky) through intense training rocky learns new tricks. he even turns on the lights. (good) 1:06 "the last time i was here he was so behaved he didn't want to jump. and, so the fact he jumped for a light switch. that's a great moment there." "good boy rocky, good boy! and, learns a lesson of his own. 1:06 "i had some problems back before i came here. i made a mistake. so, it makes you feel great working with the dogs. it makes you feel better about yourself." rocky also helps his other companion, bradford maneuver in

the mike durfee state prison in springfield, south dakota. last week, we showed you "hounds of hope." nine inmates work with three dogs at a time. many of the animals need more training and help to ensure they end up getting adopted to forever families. it could be a treacherous travel morning. ben's in next to tell us about the ice, and snow, we can expect. and....a dog that travelled twelve hundred miles from home as reuinted with her owner. we'll show you this heartwarming story after the break.

rose ahead of black friday. the dow rose a point to 17,813, the nasdaq picked up 13 points and the s&p 500 lost a fraction to close at 2,089. the nation's top airlines are giving thanks this year... for lower gas prices. the four top airlines posted record profits thanks to low fuel costs. according to financial reports... delta, american, united and southwest saved a combined eleven-point- one-billion-dollars in fuel costs in the first nine months of 2015. while it's good news for them... passengers have not seen much savings for themselves the average cost on american, united and southwest has decreased by only four-percent. fares have stayed high despite lower fuel costs because demand for travel is growing. the los angeles times lost dozens of reporters and editors this week after the company offered them buyouts. tribune publishing owns several big newspapers including the l-a times. it announced the need for buyouts in october. the company was looking for at least 50 buyouts at
