j-c penny opened at 3 p-m and i spoke with the very first person in line. she said she only had to get there a half hour early to beat the dozens of other shoppers. everyone in line got a special coupon too. and although the stores opened early this year, that shopper says it's the family time that matters most. "i know it kind of makes me sad that they moved it to thanksgiving day because it's supposed to be black friday and right now it's thursday, but i feel like as long as i'm still with my family it kind of gets that good and that bad together," said vianna hobbs. vianna hobbs says it's a tradition her family does every year. and although the hours change-- their family time doesn't. i will be speaking with more shoppers and see what they have to say about these early bird bargains and i'll have that live at 10. sheila?

families hoping to give back. "we're very blessed as we traditionally are this time of year for individuals and businesses to donate a wealth of turkeys and the fixings to allow us this opportunity." there were about 150 people served today. the food was donated from local businesses. dinner organizers say one of their main goals was for people to meet each other and forget about their daily concerns. just a few miles away a local business was also giving back to those in need. ktiv's tiffany lane was at a sioux city restaurant that opened its doors for thanksgiving dinner. tiffany? sheila, rebos hosted a thanksgiving dinner for the first time. and it was only open for community members in need of a good meal.

"i feel like we celebrate thanksgiving every day, you know," said shelly pratt, a volunteer for the rebos dinner. "why not on this day give to people that are really in need." rebos, a restaurant in downtown sioux city, opened its doors to those who might not be able to afford their own thanksgiving dinner. "i'm inside, warm, meeting around good people who care," said william dufek, a sioux city resident. "i like this place a lot. the food has been fantastic. you can't beat this, no way, no how." su

"people eating here today say, it's not only a great way to have a nice meal, but it's also a nice way to celebrate the holidays with others." "it's good because i see a lot of people i haven't seen in a long time and it's kinda nice," said misty rodriquez, a sioux city resident. "you know ii think that this is nice that rebos is doing this because a lot of money to do it." there was a traditional thanksgiving meal offered, and all of it was donated to the restaurant. volunteers came from around the community to help the restaurant's cause. between denver and sioux falls during the winter. the executive director of the sioux falls regional airport says the airline will suspend jan. 3rd and service will resume april 15th. frontier began flying out of sioux falls in 2011 frontier stopped service in sioux city back in october of last year. at the time is was described as a seasonal shutdown. but, the airline didn't take off out of sioux gateway airport for about four months. frontier also served sioux city for seven months in 2007 and 2008 before ending service as the airline reorganized under chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

google has some tips for you if you plan to shop on black friday, but want to avoid crowds and long lines. google actually tracked people through their cell phones during last year's holiday season. they say you should shop in the morning, late afternoon, or evenings on black friday. foot traffic peaks between the hours of two and four in the afternoon. they recommend you avoid electronics stores and cell phone stores on black friday and last, if you're looking for something specific, google recommends you check if the store has what you want in stock before you go. after losing her spot to the characters from the movie frozen last year, barbie ices out the competition as the number one toy for girls this holiday season . that's according to the national retail federation survey. the survey says more than one in five gift givers plan to buy a barbie for the little girl on their list. lego sets take the top spot for boys, and sit at number eight for girls. the survey also found all children have caught star wars

garner plenty of national attention. iowa is one of two fbs schools yet to lose a game. while nebraska can play big-time spoiler as the hawkeyes cling to the last spot in the college football playoff rankings. iowa's only games against ranked teams came on the road. at 5-6, nebraska isn't ranked but has kept most of their games close. the huskers rallied from 17-down last year to beat iowa in overtime. the hawkeyes appeared on a regional cover of sports illustrated this week. said to be a curse - as the hawkeyes lost the subseqeunt game the last time that happened. coaches and players are not buying into jinxes or records. "i'm a little behind so we're going to have to do a little research and prove thatthere is no jinx," said iowa head coach kirk ferentz. "that's been thrown out there before and we've already done some things nobody's ever done here before." philadelphia. lions looking for their third straight win - matthew stafford finds theo riddick for an 8-yard score. 7-0 lions. stafford was in for a big day - just before the half - stafford to calvin johnson gives detroit a 24-7 halftime lead. stafford slung five touchdowns - three to calvin johnson - second one there to make it a 24-point game. and then johnson again - making fantasy detorits a winner, 45-14, they're now 4-7 on the year. it's still very early in the college basketball season. but these next couple of days will show hawkeye fans just how good their team is. they face dayton tonight, playing in the eight-team advocare invitational in florida. iowa is out to a quick 3-0 start. the long-ball has been kind to the hawkeyes who are averaging nearly 11 three-pointers a game thus far. dayton, also 3-0, currently ranks 5th in the nation in points allowed, giving up about 56 points a game.

the hawkeyes come into this game after pounding marquette on the road by 28-points. players say the road while coach says this will be a tough test. "they'll challenge our offense with their quickness and their speed and their ability to create offense with their defense," said fran mccaffery, iowa basketball head coach. "but they also can score and they have various guys who can score." "it was big to get the young guys some experience on the road and it kind of took some pressure a 25-point lead," said iowa senior adam woodbury.
