we had our lala snow on thanksgiving and it wasn't nearly as bad as predicted with tomorrow's snow. there were only about two inches that caused some slushy areau in siouxland. there were also some areas where icicles formed. now with the expected storm, sioux city police have provided some safety tips for the roads: select your routes carefully. plan ahead of time so that might mean leaving soonene slow d dn. the speed limit is based on perfect road conditions. and make sure your vehicle is in good maintenance. to find out about late starts or school cancellations you can go

parts of the ohio state university campus closed after reports of an active shooter. several local and state law enforcement agencies - including the swat team - responded to the o-s-u campus after witnesses saw a man with a gun inside the music administration building. the male suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the wexner center for the arts. wexner remains closed as the investigation continues, but all other parts of campus have re-opened. police say no one else was injured and there is no on-going threat on campus. omaha police have identified two victims of a weekend shooting. police say 21-year-old jonathan johnson died from gunshot wounds saturday at creighton medical center. a second man, 21-year-old nathaniel bailey, suffered non-life- threatening injuries. officers were called to the shooting around 11 a.m. saturday. authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact omaha police. authorities are investigating a shooting that killed one man and

injured another in downtown des moines. des moines police say 21- year-old edmanuel perez died and 23-year-old andrew hurley-boyd was hospitalized in the shooting. officers responded to the incident around 1:10 a.m. sunday in the city's popular court avenue district. police say investigators are working to locate poteial suspects. the fatal shooting is the 17th homicide in des moines this year. nearly five years after iowa residents flocked to sheriff's offices in a rush to obtain firearm permits, sheriffs are bracing for a wave of renewals. the initial spike in 2011 came after the iowa legislature changed the state's permitting law from "may issue" to "shall issue," giving law enforcement less discretion over who can receive a permit. that's according to the dubuque telegraph herald. the number of permits issued in iowa skyrocketed after the change was made, from roughly 39,000 non-professionon permits issued in 2010 to more than 101,000 in 2011. the number of permits issued has remained high ever

number issued in 2011. there are more than a dozen coaching jobs open in major college football. but iowa state has already found their new coach. sports dirececr brad pautsch has more from the newsroom. iowa state athletic director jamie pollard has only been looking for a new coach for seven days, after firing paul rhoads. pollard hired his new football coach from a team that beat the cyclones this season. toledo's matt campbell is the new iowa state football coach. he h h a 35 and 15 reocordrdn four-plus seasons with the rockets. that includes a 30 to 23 win in double overtime, against isu back in september. if you think he looks young, you're right. he just turned 36 years old today, and will be fomally introduced on monday afternoon. iowa state has won just fiveve games over the past two seasons. we'll have much more about matt campbell, later in sports. coming up..... a band made up of siouanders performed for a big audiance

inside, it's delightful. that was the theme of the lewis and clark interpretive center's program today. music playing. christmamamusic lit up the betty strong encoter center stage. new horizons band of siouxland performed popular seasonal tunes. it was new horizons' third appearance at the encounter center. the musical repertoire included a variety of musical styles. flute, trumpet and trombone were just a few of the instruments siouxlanders could hear. pollard announced the firing of head football coach paul rhoads. one week later, pollardas hired a new coach. toledo's matt campbell -- who turned 36 today -- will now lead the cyclones, who have just five wins in the last two seasons. campbell has a 35 and 15 record at toledo, in four-plus years. he won two ncaa division iii titles at his alma-mater, mount union in ohio -- where he won three more titles as a player. he also was an assistant at bowling green before coming to toledo, also as an assistant. on saturday, toledo offered campbell a contract that would have made him the highest-paid coach in the mid-american conference. campbell is married with three young children and a fourth on the way. he'll be introduced at a noon

the hawkeyes finished an undefeated regular season on saturday, but still fell one spot in the new a-p poll iowa is fourth this week at 12 and 0 -- just ahead of michigan state, who will play the hawks in the big ten championship game on saturday. the hawks are third in the coaches poll. oklahoma jumps over iowa after beating oklahoma state to win the big 12 title. clemson and alabama stay 1-2. the new playoff rankings are released on tuesday. in the fcs playoffs, northern iowa will travel to portland state saturday for round twtw uni beat eastern illinois 53-3- in the first round. that game will kickoff at 9 pm central time on saturday. it's their first meeting. morningside will host southern oregon in the naia semifinals on saturday at noon at olsen stadium. the top-ranked mustangs are 12-1 after beating tabor 51 to 6. southern oregon, last year's national champoins, a a 10 and 2. the winner will advance to the naia championship on december 19th in daytona beach, florida. the hawkeye n had hopes of
