good morning. thanks for joining us on this tuesday december 1st. more snow fell in siouxland overnight. navigating snowy city streets can be tricky at times. we'll hear from a veteran city bus driver who knono how to get from poioi a to point b without getting g uck. he shares some winter driving tips. and for the first time, we're hearing from a colorado springs doctor who jumped into action to help treat some of the wounded from last week's planned parenthood shootings. and kids often get a few bucks for bringing h he a good report card or a special treat. but one north carolina barber is making good on a promise to make sure one student is looking his best with his good grades. but first, here's ben.

o'connor says she's experienced the snow beeore, but nothing really ever prepares her for ii "it's really impacted my day from walking through the parking lot to walking down the hill to wait for the bus and then the bus not being on schedule," said bus rider, diana o'connor. other passengers say it's just part of living in siouxland. "getting from point a to b it's ok," said bus rider, jennifer goodier. "if you're gonna drive out in it be careful, take your time because it's pretty slick out there," said bus rider, philip trudau. "i don't like the weather, but it's part of winter," said bus rider, cindy winey. >> with the snow impacting so many people, stewart says to always keep safety in mind. he says drivers often think since buses are so big they get more traction, but they really don't, so drivers need to slow down around them.

interactive radar along with hourly and daily forecasts. it's also under the weather tab at ktiv-dot- com. the snow started falling before seven a-m yesterday. it's still coming down lightly. it'll continue to fall lightly, off and on today. ben says we may see an inch or two of additional accumulation. in norfolk, nebraskakahis in n nfolk, nebraska a mixf freezing rain and snow developed coating the streets with a thin layer of ice below the snow. road conditions remained slippery and authorities cautioned drivers to take it extra slow. the nebraska state patrol said that not many accidents have occurred. the accidents that have been reported are very minor. because of school being canceled yesterday, many siouxland kids decided to spend the time in the snow. dakota, trace and halleigh created two big snowmen today. they say it only took them about 20 minutes. they love making snow forts, snow angels and of

never made one this big. when asked what their favorite part of winter is they had some good answers. ot being at school and that i get to play with my friends. the snow and having fun with my friends and family," said dakota mckinley and halleigh leiber. the kids say they can't wait to build more snowmen. sledding was a pretty popular option, too. this was the scene at grandview park in sioux city, yesterday afternoon. sioux city sledders were out in full f ce, bundled up and enjoying the fresh s the obama administration is boosting the amount of corn-based ethanol and other renewable fuels in the u.s. gasoline supply. that's despite sustained opposition by oil companies, and environmental ists. the environmental protection agency has announced a rule to increase production of ethanol to be blended with gasoline through 2016.

mean a higher percentage of ethanol in your tank, but, it does mean there will be a higher supply of the corn- based fuel, overall. south dakota regulators have granted a construction permit for a pipeline that will cross through south dakota as it carries north dakota oil to illinois. the public utilities commission voted 2-1 to approve the state's portion of the 11-hundred mile dakota access pipeline. opponents are concerned about possible harm to the environment. the panel granted the permit with conditions. two people are dead following an early-morning crash near yankton, south dakota. it happened on south dakota highway 50, east of yankton, at about 5:30am monday. invesigators say a car was travelling west on highway 50 on the wrong side of the road. in that area, traffic travelling in opposite directions is divided by a median. that car collided head-on with a car headed east. the impact caused the first car to burst into flames. the drivers of both cars died. their names haven't been released. two other cars, which came upon

after the initial impact, also hit the cars involved. theyeyeren't hurt. prosecutors have reached a plea deal with an inwood, iowa, man facing eleven criminal counts, including 3rd-degree sexual abuse. 20-year-old jesse visser has agreed to plead guilty to three counts in the case. in exchange, the other eight counts will be dropped. visser's guilty plea relates to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, and 3rd-degree sexual abuse. prosecutors say visser will spend up to 12-years in prison. as part of the plea deal, visser has to hand over the memory card from his cell phone, which is believed to have images of the underaged victim. visser will also have to register as a sex offender. todadamarks the 60th annivivsary of rosa parks' refusal to give up her seat on the bus. to commemorate one of the most important acts of civil disobedience during the civil rights era, the bus system in topeka kansas is offering free bus rides to everyone.

for the first time since last week's deadly shooting at a planned parenthood in colorado springs, we are hearing from a doctor who jumped into action to help treat some of the wounded... just steps from whereullets were flying. kelsey kennedy has the story from colorado springs.

"he is the one that went out and grabbed the second victim that was by the car, dragged him in by the arm and basically gave him to us." the team of medical professionals started an i-v and tried to keep their patients calm - ultimately saving their lives. "while trying to keep everyone away from windows, away from any line of sight cause there was still active shooting going on at the time." bullets still flying - swat came in an armored truck to rescue the wounded. "swat personnel was on her left and i was on her right, and we got her quickly into an armored transport." but a hero, doctor hurst says, he is not. "we did our part to help but i'm not very comfortable with that word.. just really did what we're trained to do, to just help people." no matter how awful the circumstances, good fortune is found in the good people of our community. "certainly there does seem to be fate involved where certain people are in certain places at certain times for things we don't always understand

the shooter, robert dear appeared in a video monitor with his appointed public defender yesterday. dear is charged with first-degree murder and will remain in jail without bond. dear is accused of opening fire inside the planned parenthood clinic and holding over a five hour standoff with police. so far, investigators have not released a motive behind the shooting. if convicted, dear could face the death penalty. his next court date is scheduled for december 9th. there's still more snow headed our way today. ben's in next to tell us how much more we'll see here in siouxland. and one barber made good on his promise to a young customer. we'll tell you why the boy got a free haircut after

back to you. >> beijing continues to suffer air pollution today as extremely hazardous levels of pollutants engulf the chinese capital. visibility was cut to several hundred yards, as buildings receded into thick smog. the persistent smog also caused heavy traffic on roads leading to the city's bususess district. europe's most powerful solar power plant is set to be inaugurated today in france. construction began on the 404-million-dollar plant in november of last year. the plant sits on more than 617 acres of land. earlier this month, the 300 megawatt project was fully connected to france's electric grid.d. the park will be able to produce enough electricity for 250- thousand people. the white house announced

new steps to fight terrorism, including the naming of a new senior presidential advisor. robert malley will focus solely on the fight against isis. measures will also be taken to tighten security in the visa waiver program. the program makes ititasier for citizens from 38 partner countries to enter the u-s with no visa and minimal screening. it came under scrutiny after the paris terror attacks and concerns that radical jihadists could use it to enter the u-s. the united states' military and political strategy for defeating isis in iraq and syria is the top agenda item for the house armed services committee hearing today. the meeting is taking place in washington d.c. and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. secretary of defense ashton carter and joint chiefs of staff chairman general joseph dunford will testify about how the current strategy in fighting isis will impact both regions going forward. thirteen women senators endorsed hillary clinton as the next president of the united states yesterday in washington, d.c.

was welcomed by the crowd during a women for hillary fundraiser. the group debuted a video entitled "44 boys is too many" where young girls expressed their support for clinton as the first female president. clinton covered a wide range of topics when she addressed the crowd, but focused on the promise of opportunity in america being available for future generations as it was for her generation. republican presidential candidate donald trump will campaign in northwest iowa this weekend. trump will hold a rally in spencer, iowa, on december 5th, at the clay county regional events center. the doors will open at 9 a-m and the event begins at 11 a-m. peruvian authorities arrested an american man who claimed to be a pilot for xtra airways at an airport in lima last week. kenneth parrock, had nearly 20 pounds of drugs hidden inside sealed bed sheet packages along with six additional aluminum bags. dressed as a commercial pilot, parrock said he was on medical leave from his job but was to return to

december 7th. all contents inside the bed sheet packages tested positive for cocaine, according to police. a chicago police officer charged in the shooting death of a black teen is out on bond. officer jason van dyke was met with a swarm of reporters after posting his one-point-five million dollars bail. officer van dyke w w charged with firir-degree murder for allegedly fatally shooting 17- year-old laquan mcdonald 16 times in 2014... following the recent release of das-cam video of the incident. the next hearing for officer van dyke will be held on december 18th. jury selection is underway for the first trial in the freddie gray case. prosecutors say gray died of injuriesesuffered while he was in police custody in april. william porter is the first of six baltimore police officers to face trial. porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second degree assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. freddie gray's death sparked weeks of rioting in baltimore.

snow-filled streets, while passengers say they had to reroute their entire day. he says some people think buses get more traction because they are so big, but he says that's not the case, so slow down when n ur driving near one of them. two people are dead following a head-on crash that caused a car to catch on fire east of yankton early monday morning. the south dakota highway patrol says a 31-year-old man was driving a car on the wrong side of highway 50 around 5:30 a.m. collided head-on with an eastbound car driveneny a 30-year-old woman. both drivers were killed. their names have not been released. state regulators have granted a construction permit for a pipeline that will cross through south dakota as it carries north dakota oil to illinois. the public utilities commission voted 2 to 1 to approve the state's portion of the more than 11- hundred mile dakota accesss pipeline. the project proposos would move at least 450- thousand barrels of crude daily from the bakken oil patch in

start spinning youres you start sliding you've lost control so it's best to just stay in control," said bus driver, rick stewart. stewart had to change some of his route to avoid the snow-filled streets, while passengers say they've had to reroute their entire day. "today has been a little big crazy. i went out to western iowa tech. they closed at 10 and kind of kicked us out. so then we had to walk down the hill to be able to catch the bus and the bus got stuck, but we finally got here so i'm greatful for that," said bus s der, diana o'connor. o'connororays she's experienced the snow before, but nothing ally ever prepares her for it. "it's reallympacted my day from walking through the parking lot to walking down the hill to wait for the bus and then the bus not being on schedule," said bus rider, diana o'connor. other passengers say it's just part of living in siouxland. "getting from point a to b it's ok," said bus rider, j jnifer goodier. "if you're gonna drive out in it be careful, take your time because it's pretty slick out there," said bus rider, philip trudau. "i don't like the weather, but it's part of winter," said bus der,

in norfolk, nebraska yesterday, a a x of freezing rain and snow coated the streets with a thin layer of ice... making for slick driving conditions. road conditions remained slippery and authorities cautioned drivers to take it extra slow. the nebraska state patrol said there weren't many accidents. but most of those accidents were very minor. because of school being canceled yesterday, many siouxland kids decided to spend their timimin the snsn. dakota, trace and halleigh created two big snowmen today. they say it only took them about 20 minutes. they love making snow forts, snow angels and of course snowmen-- but they've never made one this big. when asked what their favorite part of winter is they had some good answers. "not being at school and that i get to play with my friendsdsthe snowownd having fun with my friends and family," said dakota mckinley and halleigh leiber. the kids say they can't wait to build more snowmen. sledding was a pretty popular

this was the scene at grandview park in sioux city, yesterday afternoon. kids and their families were out in full force, bundled up and enjoying the fresh snow... sliding down the designated sledding hill. the obama administration is boosting the amount of corn-based ethanol and other renewable fuels in the u.s. gasoline supply. that's despite sustained opposition by oil companies, and environmental ists. thth environmental protection agency has announced a rule to increase production of ethanol to be blended with gasoline through 2016. the decision doesn't necessarily mean a higher percentage of ethanol in your tank, but, it does mean there will be a higher supply of the corn- based fuel, overall.

granted a construction permit for a pipeline that willllross through south dakota as itit carries north dakota oil to illinois. the public utilities commission voted 2 to 1 to approve the state's portion of the 11-hundred mile dakota access pipeline. opponents are concerned about environment. the panel granted the permit with conditions. two people are dead following a to catch on fire east of yanktonon rly monday morning. the south dakota highway patrol says a 31-year-old man was driving a car on the wrong side of highway 50 around 5:30 a.m. collided head-on with an eastbound car driven by a 30-year-old woman. both drivers were killed. their names have not been released. two other cars, which came upon the crash site after the initial impact, also hit the cars involved, but the people in those vehicles were not hurt. prosecutors have reached a plea deal with an inwood, iowa, man facing eleven criminal counts, including 3rd-degree sexual abuse. 20-year-old jesse visser has

to three counts in the case. in exchange, the other eight counts will be dropped. visser's guilty plea relates to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, and 3rd-degree sexual abuse. prosecutors say visser will spend up to 12-years in prison. as part of the plea deal, visser has to hand over the memory card from his cell phone, which is believed to have images of the underaged victim. visser will also have to register as a sex offender. today marks the 60th anniversary of rosa parks' refusal to give up her seat on the bus. to commemorate one of the most important acts of civil disobedience during the civil rights era, the bus system in topeka kansas is offering free bus rides to everyone. several other events will be going in montgomery alabama on tuesday in former secretary of state and democratic candidate for president hillary clinton will speak at king around noon. when we come back this morning, we'll have an update on the weather and driving conditions john farley.

she addressed the crowd, but focused on the promise of opportunity in america being available for future generations as it was for her generation. donald trump will campaign in northwest iowa this weekend. the republican presidential hopeful will hold a rally in spencer on saturday at the clay county regional events center. doors open at 9 a-m. the event begins at 11. peruvian authorities arrested an american man who claimed to be a pilot for xtra airways at an airport in lima last week. kenneth parrock, had nearly 20 pounds of drugs hidden inside sealed bed sheet packages along with six additional aluminum bags. dressed as a commercial pilot, parrock said he was on medical leave from his job but was to return to work with xtra airways on december 7th. all contents inside the bed sheet packages tested positive for cocaine, according to police. a chicago police officer charged in the shooting death of a black teen is out on bond.

with a swarm of reporters after posting his one-point-five million dollars bail. officer van dyke was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly fatally shooting 17- year-old laquan mcdonald 16 times in 2014... following the recent release of das-cam video of the incident. the next hearing for officer van dyke will be held on december 18th. jury selection is underway for the first trial in the freddie gray case. prosecutors say gray died of injuries suffered while he was in police custody in april. william porter is the first of six baltimore police officers to face trial. porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second degree assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. freddie gray's death sparked weeks of rioting in baltimore. police officials admit there were serious errors in the e y gray was hahaled in custody. in september, the city agreed to a six-point- four-million dollar civil settlement with freddie gray's family. after the long holiday weekend of shopping,
