happy giving tuesday. good afternoon, i'm al joens. the digout continues after mother nature's second snowstorm of the season. ktiv's tiffany lane was in downtown sioux city this morning to check out road conditions. tiffany did it seem busy out? al, there was only some light snow as i was out earlier so i did see quite a few people out and about downtown sioux city. you could even see people out working. some contractors say they were fixing the lift for the police department. you can see them in the video. and for those out running errands, they have formed

"this is made for the snow," said mchenlley mutsuo, a sioux city resident. "it's wind proof cuz it's like right next to your body and i just stick it in like that. and it works. keeps me dry." mchenlley mutsuo said the one thing his s brella couldn't prevent was the splashing water as the cars pass by. that is from some slushiness left in the streets. sioux city street team leaders say the snow crews are doing a good job clearing the main streets. street superintenden t ed pickens says priority one and priority two streets have all been cleared. most residential areas c cld be clclred by seven tonight. they w wt to remind people t t get their cars off the road so the plows and move on through. (al) is the city on time with its cleanup? (tiffany) al, their snow policy says to have streets cleleed within 72 hours. but, they say they are way ahead of schedule.

while road crews and siouxlanders continue to clean up from the snow storm, law enforcement agencies a a reminding drivers that just because the roads are clear, doesn't mean it's full speed ahead. iowa state patrol trooper john farley stopped by the ktiv studios this morning. he says to keep an eye on the weather forecast for where you are and where you're going. "we want to make sure people aren't overconfident, people are really utilizing those good driving and defensive driving skills, making sure they are being prepared all the time," says iowa state patrol trooper john farley. farley says troopers responded to about a dozen calls for vehicles in the median or ditch yesterday, but there were no major accidents in northwest iowa. authorities have released the names of two people killed in a head-on collision east of yankton, south dakota early yesterday morning. they're identified as 31-year

and 30-year old ashley riibe, both of yankton. the state patrol says nelsen was driving the wrong way on state highway 50, which is a divided, four- lane roadway. his car hit the car driven by riibe head-on. nelsen's car caught on fire and he died at the scene. riibe died of her injuries later at a sioux falls hospital. after the crash, a third car and a pickup truck struck the wrecked vehicles, but none of the people in those vehicles was injured. a sioux city man, who ran a school-based program for at-risk kids was sentenced today for having sex with a student. a judge today gave 29-year- old erick deleon 15 years probation. plus, he must register as a sex officer after being found guilty of sexual exploitation by a school employee. his defense attorney argued he was a state employee, who ran a program for at-risk students at north high school. but, the judge determined that deleon was also a school district employee because he also worked as an assistant soccer coach at west high school.

quote "pattern of sexual related texting and sexual intercourse with the victim." chicago's police chiefefas been fired todadaafter a public outcry over the handling of the case of a black teenager shot 16 times by a white police officer. mayor rahm emanuel announced that he has dismissed superintenden t garry mccarthy, who only days ago insisted to reporters that the mayor had his "back." protesters have been calling for mccarthy's dismissal fofodays in response to the handlininof the laquan mcdonald shooting. the pentagon is expanding the u.s. special operations force in iraq to help iraqi and kurdish forces fight islamic state militants. defense secretary ash carter told the house armed services committee today that over time, the forces will be able to conduct raras, free hostages, , ther intelligence and capture isis leaders. carter did not offer troop numbers. meanwhile, u-s-a today reports the pentagon may also send more troops to syria to fight isis.

dededed how to proceed. iowa is set to shift the 4- point-2 billion dollar medicaid program to private management starting in january. south dakota regulators have granted a construction permit, with conditions, for a pipeline that would cross through the state as it carries crude oil from north dakota to illinois. the public utilities c cmmission voted 2-1 to approve the state's portion of the 11-hundred mile dakota access pipeline. south dakota is the first state to make a decision about the pipeline. it must also be approved in iowa, where three landowners, including two from siouxland, have filed a lawsuit to stop eminent domain from being used to take their land for the project. rren buffett plans to hit the campaign trara stumping for hillary clinton. the billionaire investor is set to appear with clinton at a campaign stop in nebraska next month. it will be the democratic presidential candidate's first campaign stop in omaha before the nebraska caucus in march. a clinton campaign source says the two will talk abououthe need

renewable fuels in the u.s. gasoline supply. that's despite sustained opposition by oil companies, and environmental ists --and-- a move by the environmental protection agency to reduce the nation's renewable fuels standard. the e-p-a has announced a rule to increase production of ethanol to be blended with gasoline through 2016. that means there will be a higher supply of the corn-based fuel, overall.
