state democratic lawmakers are showing concern over iowa governor terry branstad's plan to privatize medicaid. today they held a public forum at western iowa tech in sioux city to address people who will be impacted directly. the organizers of the event were state representative chris halal state representativ e dave dawson and state senator rob hogg. hall says this has become a partisan issue. "when we talk about four billion dollars being handed over from taxpayers to private companies and some of these companies have significant fraud issues across the country, there should be more concern coming from the republican party as well," said state representative chris hall from sioux city. on monday, branstad said there's

delay the plans for the program. that's even though a judge recommended the state throw out one of four contracts awarded to companies to run it. one community member at today's meeting says she has unanswered questions about the program and is concerned. "i've had kidney cancer and i've had ovarion cancer, and so at any time i may have to go back to you knkn-while i do to the kidney speciciist because i also have a kidney problem, but i don't know if he's going to be on the list," said event participant sherry flansburg. "and i don't know if there is another one in sioux city." iowa will shift the fofo-point-two billion dollar medicaid program to private management starting on january first. there's a push to legalize medical marijuana in nebraska. two meetings were held in norfolk and dakota city today. nebraska senator tommy garrett recently took a trip to minnesota last month to study how that state has imimimented strict medical marijuananbills. he says he's not in favor of

legalization. but, he does say giving families an alternative to a treatment has shown success. "we've done our homework. i'm here to tell you that cannabis has medical efficacy and can really help a lot of people." the pierce county sheriff says is not in favor of legalizing rijuana in nebraska. an iowa-based nonprofit is working to get the state agriculture department to toughen up on animal welfare laws. iowa friends for companion animals is lobbying for change. they held a meeting in le mars tonight. at that meeting, discussions on what a puppy mill is, cururnt legislation and ways to help ensued. according to iowa friends, iowa has the second highest amount of puppy mills in the u.s. "we are not trying to end dog breeding, we aren't trying to move mountains with this legislation," said kathie pfaffle. the glow of christmas lights, tonight. the community of ponca, nebraska, lined main street tonight to take in the beauty of the annual lighted christmas parade. floats decorated with thousands of twinkling christmas lights brings the small town together every year. parade-goers had a blast and got to see one famous north pole resident. "i love this parade," said lauryn gill. "i like seeing all the lights and colors and seeing santa claus." "i think it's awesome," said sarah beach. "i like how the community all comes together."." holiday spirit today. youngsters from gehlen catholic in le mars put together advent gift bags. they provide enough for more than 300 people who are shut-in or homebound. students and school employees buy all of the items that go into the gift bags that they give out every christmas season. an iowa cat takes his first steps, thanks to help from iowa state university. three-year-old vincent is a domestic short-haired cat who has been fitted with very rare prosthetic legs. he's being treated at iowa state university's lloyd d terinary medical cenenr. vincenenwas found in a sheltlt and had been missing his back limbs. fewer than 25 animals in the world have ever had a similar surgery. vincent is still recovering, but doctors say he's making strides. veterinarians expect vincent to be up and jumping like a normal cat very s sn. for r re on vincent's storor just head to our website ktiv.com.

attacking healthy cells. anyone can develop it at any age and doctors ststl don't know what exactly caususs it. it can be genetic, but most of the time people deveop it sporadically. and, the progression is different for everyone. "i think people aren't as aware of crohn's and ulcerative colitis and things like that because we just don't talk about it. it's kind of on the do not talk about list if you will when we talk about our gi track system and things like that. so we're much more likely to talk about heart disease or kidney disease or things like that, but when it comes to gi issues as a society i think we j jt don't talk about it as much," said pediatric anan internalaledicine specialist at mercy medical center, dr. steven joyce. dr. joyce says it's important to recognize the symptoms including unexplained abdominal pain, blood in stools, fever, and joint pain. siouxlxlders should get to the doctor if they experience any of these symptoms. ndsay washburn started experiencing those symptoms when she was just 17- years-old. ktiv's tommie clark spoke with washburn and has her journey on living with crohn's disease.

lindsay washburn found out she has crohn's disease. she's been persevering through the illness and recently, she took one step closer to getting better." washburn got a peripherally inserted central catheter or "picc" line taken out of her arm. she had the line in order to get more nutrition to her body since her most recent crohn's flare. her nurse says, it's a monumental thing for her. "when we first started with lindsay she was really weak. she weighed like 95 pounds. she's up to 116 pounds. she was on 24 hour nutrition through this picc line and now she's got it completely ne so that's awesome," said rn at mercy home care, jill vrieze. although she struggles with the disease, washburn wouldn't have it any other way. "i think that it's made me the person that i am today. there's a lot of things in life that we take for granted and i think when you have a disease like this where it limits what you can do...it makes you really appreciate the day-to-day stuff a lot more," said crohn's disease patient, lindsay washburn. her husband, jeremy, says it's changed his life too. "i've developed some empathy for others that are suffering through diseases that affect their quality of life and it's not always obvious that they're sick ," said washburn's husband, jeremy mccccre. washburn along with her support system like her husband and

towards a better life. "i'll never be quote on quote normal because you never quite get there, but i can at least try and get back to how i used to be," said crohn's disease patient, lindsay washburn. "washburn says she's come a long way in her recovery, but she still has a long way to go. for now she plans to work to stay healthy, take her medication, and just take one step at a time." >> the past two years washburn has documented her crohn's flare up on facebook and other social media platforms. she says social media is big with the crohn's community. washburn makes new post on her blog and writes poetry. she's also done a photo shoot to
