is taking action after some suspicious behavior at their high school this week. during the lunch hour on thursday, two unauthorized individuals entered the school. the two men are identified as university of south dakota students.s. they first tololstaff they were at yankton high school to kill time before an exam, but later changed their story, saying they knew someone at the school-- but couldn't come up with a name. after being asked to leave, police were contacted and because of the suspicious behavior, authorities pulled the two teenagers s over. that's when yayakton police found two unloaded weapons in the trunk. "i think for anybody that's unsettling, but the way it was handled and as quickly as it was handle din the school i don't know that we could have done that any better. we don't want two oindividuals coming into our school unannounceded efining how w r school is all about and ououcommunity and i feel very strongly about that. i would not have had kids in our school today if i felt they should not be there," said yankton school district

the two individuals are now identified as 18-year-old joseph vanbuskirk and 19-year-old adam gerard. both were chged with trespassing, disruption of school and possession of firearms on school property. we now know the names of the people involved in yesterday's crash near yankton, south dakota, that killed three people and sent three others to the hospital. a vehicle driven by 55- year-old robin mettler of menno, south dakota was traveling southbound on highway 81 when her car crossed into the northbound lane, striking a car carrying four people. authorties say 68-year- old karol aeschlimann of hurley, 71-year-old lila rayburn of hurleleand 68-year-old sandra johnson of parker died at the scene. 69-year-old dennis johnson of parker suffered serious non- life threatening injuries. mettler and her 21-year- old passenger, mary mettler, also were seriously injured

that loud boom i ia tire blowing out in sioux city this is video shot by ktiv's matt breen an engine fire to a four door staion-wagon, resulted in authorities blocking off the shoulder on the off ramp of the highway 20 bypass near the southlakepor t exit around 4:30 this afternoon. firefighters blocked off the area to extinguiui the firere but, good news for those if you're commuting in and around the sioux city area. the i-29 northbound on-ramp from wesley parkway opened today at noon. mark freund joining us now. mark, we talked about it at the top of the show. this is the day hawkeye fans have been waiting for. the big ten championship game will kick off in about 45 minutes - iowa looking for their first big ten title - and likely a spot in the college football playoff.

goodwill of the great plains shoe and mitten drive has been a long- standing tradition in sioux city. months of preparatioio went into, brininging pure joy for hundreds of kids this morning. ktiv's sam curtiss takes us inside the party. "these kids are really appreciative for all that they're getetng," said mallory gaul.l.i'm expecting to serve about a 1,000 kids today," said mallory gaul. "you're at the goodwill shoe and mitten party," said mallory gaul. "my name is uallory gaul," said mallory gaul. "community marketing manager here at goodwill of the great plains," said mallory gaul. "we're giving away free hats, shoes, socks and mittens to children ages five to 11," said mallory gaul. "this is our 76th year here in sioux city doing t t shoe and mitten papay," said mallory gaul. "it started out with patent leather shoes that we gave and now as you can see theyre a little more brightly colored," said mallory gaul. "we have over 100 volunteers that come out today," said mallory gaul. "a lot of people start calling beginning of november to get on the list to bring their children and volunteer for the event," said mallory gaul. "they come wearing shoes with holes in it [and] some of them don''even have socks oo their feett" said mallory gauu "somm of the kids we saw last year, they're wearing the same exact shoes that we gave them last year," said mallory gaul. "they're a little shy at first but once you get talking to them they start smiling, laughing and telling you more about themselves," said sage lewis. "once you go ahead and you put the fresh socks on [and] the fresh shoes, the experience they get from it, they're just smiling ear to ear," said sage lewis. "some of them might not be able to afford very much and this is just one less thing the parents are going to have to buy so then maybe they can give their kids a

christmas," said mallory gauln "we tr and make it a fun experience too," said mallory gaul. "they also get to see santa claus while they're here," said mallory gaul. "it's great," said mallory gaul. "they love it. all the kids love it." and one of the biggest reasons why the event runs so smoothly, the work of the volunteers. from deputies with the woodbury county sheriff's office to high schoolers at lawton- bronson. as well as many who volunteer because they were once helped by this event. like the lefler family here. 19 brothers and sisters, now they aren't all pictured, but for 15 years they've come back to help. "so many of the litte kids that are getting these things, it's not the parents, i mean the parents say thank you, but the little kids themsleves when you say merry christmas and their face lights up and you hand them something and they say thank you, it makes me have faith that
