good evening, i'm robert lowe. it's a safe bet to say a lot of sports fans in siouxland have been tuned into the big ten championship. iowa, yet to lose a game this season, playing for what is likely a spot in the college football playoff. while many couldn't make it to indianapolis for the game, it didn't stop the fans from going to a watch party either. ktiv's sam curtiss takes us to downtown sioux city saturday night.

street in sioux city is practically empty. most people are inside as tv's tuned into the big ten championship. the majority of people ready to cheer on iowa. "we ain't going to lose, we'll win this one," said a hawkeye fan. spirits are high. regardless of what the outcome might be. "undefeated up to this point, never been 12-0, so i'm good with that," said a hawkeye fan. but iowa has some extra voices pulling for them as many other sports fans teams are not playing on championship saturday. "i was born and raised a hawkeye fan," said an iowa state alum. "[i] went to iowa state, got to love them both." even gaining a few nebraska fans for the night. "i got to root for my neighbor iowa," said a nebraska fan. but not very many nebraska fans. people and sent three others to the hospital. a vehicle driven by 55- year-old robin mettler of menno, south dakota was traveling southbound on highway 81 when her car crossed into the northbound lane, striking a car carrying four people. authorties say 68-year- old karol aeschlimann of hurley, 71-year-old lila rayburn of hurley and 68-year-old sandra johnson of parker died at the scene. 69-year-old dennis johnson of parker suffered serious non- life threatening injuries. mettler and her 21-year- old passenger, mary mettler, also were seriously injured today isis leadership responded for the first time to the attack in california that left 14 dead and more than 20 wounded... while investigators continue to search for a link between the couple responsible.. and any known terror groups. jay gray has the latest tonight from california..

"they come wearing shoes with holes in it [and] some of them don't even have socks on their feet," said mallory gaul. "some of the kids we saw last year, they're wearing the same exact shoes that we gave them last year," said mallory gaul. "they're a little shy at first but once you get talking to them they start smiling, laughing and telling you more about themselves," said sage lewis. "once you go ahead and you put the fresh socks on [and] the fresh shoes, the experience they get from it, they're just smiling ear to ear," said sage lewis. "some of them might not be able to afford very much and this is just one less thing the parents are going to have to buy so then maybe they can give their kids a little something special for christmas," said mallory gaul. and one of the biggest reasons why the event runs so smoothly, the work of the volunteers. from deputies with the woodbury county sheriff's office to high schoolers at lawton- bronson. as well as many who volunteer because they were once helped by this event. like the lefler family here. 19 brothers and sisters, now they aren't all pictured, but for 15 years they've come back to help. "so many of the litte kids that are getting these things, it's not the parents, i mean the parents say thank you, but the little kids themsleves when you say merry christmas and their face lights up and you hand them something and they say thank you, it makes me have faith that these kids are being brought up right," said janet schrunk. there was also a number of people from the ktiv family helping kids lace up their new shoes.

quarter with an 85-yard touchdown strike to tevaun smith. that was the first touchdown of the game - the hawkeyes and spartans have traded field goals most of the game. that 13-9 score holds right now - with minutes to play. we'll have an update for you before the end of the show. since their trip to the naia national championship game in 2012, morningside has fallen in the national semifinals each of the last two seasons. morningside had a chance to get back to the title game - but it wouldn't be easy, taking on the defending national champions from southern oregon. to olsen stadium - winner heads to daytona beach to face marian in a few weeks. southern oregon gets on the board first - on their first drive - keegan lawrence is in - but it was just 6- nothing after a quarter. morningside gets on the board in the second - with a 99-yard drive - tyler kavan scores on 4th down - 7-6 mustangs at the half. third quarter - ryan kasdorf airs it out to jason vanderkooi
