together to give back today. traci bower photography, the railroad museum, century 21, the marina inn, and kay-hills came together to hold a toy drive. siouxlanders could come out to the railroad museum for a polar express themed photoshoot and donate a toy. the toys will go to the kids at the crittenton center, which is a local children's homeless shelter. their goal is to help as many kids as possible and say it's all about the community. "to maybe get a little something could mean a whole different experience this christmas for those kids. when we come together and take care of each other that's what builds a community and that's what makes a community strong," said traci bower photography owner, traci bower. they will be colleccting toys till december 16th. you can bring them to the marina inn. one spencer, iowa tradition will soon get folks into the spirit of the season. spencer holds a grand meander and holiday open house every year. the shops of downtown spencer put together live

the event will be monday starting at 4 p-m in downtown spencer-- that's when the windows will come to life. there will also be hot chocolate and a tuba christmas performance that evening. the second most practiced sport in the world came to sioux city today. the annual iowa judo state championships brought competitors from all over the state to siouxland. ktiv's tommie clark was there and has more about today's tournament. tommie? robert, today the sioux city judo club hosted the championship. i spoke with instructors and students from around the state who told me why they love the sport. the championship included categories for boys and girls, adult competitors, and open rank competition. judo is a sport involving throws and pins for children and chokes and joint locks for adults. the competition took place in technique, ground fighting and standard fighting. instructors say it's more than the competition though-- it's the character building skills that really matter.

big ten championship game - iowa got a very nice consolation prize. the hawkeyes finished number-5 in the final college football playoff rankings and are headed to pasadena to take on stanford in the rose bowl on new years day. the cardinal are ranked 6th, with an 11-2 record and a win in the pac-12 championship game. iowa, of course, 12-1, with just the one loss to michigan state. it's the first rose bowl appearance for the hawkeyes since 1991. not enough f-b-s teams made the 6-win standard to become bowl eligible this year - so 5-7 nebraska is in the foster farms bowl. the cornhuskers will take on u-c-l-a in santa clara, california. the bruins are 8-4 and finished third in the pac-12 south. nebraska has won 2 of their last 3 games, including a one-point win over michigan state. the foster farms bowl is december 26. morningside is still looking for

the mustangs' season ended saturday with a 30-27 home loss to southern oregon in the n-a-i-a semifinals. morningside was held to 446 yards of offense - its second-fewest total of the season. the 27-point output ties a season low. southern oregon, the defending naia champions, went on a 12-play, 85 yard drive to score with 1:15 to go. moningside got a chance to tie the game, but a 41-yard field goal try was blocked. it's the third straight season the mustangs have been eliminated in semis. "i'm just upset, i'm disappointed in myself, the way things turned out," said senior quarterback ryan kasdorf. "you know, we never really made it past the semis, but i know morningside, they'll break through this one time. they'll get a national championship here pretty soon."
