good evening, thanks for joining us, i'm matt breen sheila has the night off. off the top, tonight... trash talk! if you live in sioux city, you may see your trash rates increase at the the start of the new year. today, the city rates. currently, residents pay $15.44 a month. but, if approved at a meeting in early january, there will be an 86-cent hike. so, you'll end up paying $16.30 a month for trash collection. that amounts to about 10- dollars more you'll pay next year. "if we would have raised them 2% a year, we wouldn't still be where we're at," said sioux city mayor bob scott. "so, those citizens got a break for a little while. number two, i don't want to bid this contract right now, because i'm afraid the rates will be much higher than what than what these are proposed to be." that rate will stay the same for

years. hoping to compete with neighboring cities, the sioux city city council approved an "enhancement study" for the tyson events center. consultants will look at improving concession stands, increasing premium level seating and possibly widening a number of concourse areas. the sioux city events & facilities executive director hopes the outcome will result in better ticket sales, and an improved experience at the venue. "we're looking not only for things that we can do at the tyson events center to make it better, but also what is our niche for booking, like what sorts of show should we be booking now that we have a lot of increased competition around us," said erika newton, executive dir. for sioux city events & facilities. the enhancement study won't exceed $68,000 the city council also approved new members to the mayor's youth commission, tonight. there are 71 new members this year and about 190 in total. the most students on the commission come from bishop heelan high school. the sioux city pool committee

recommendations that would close two pools after the next swimming season, and close two others in the future. the committee first made those recommendati ons, last week. those included closing leeds and cook pools after the 2016 season, and replacing both facilities with a splash pad. riverside would stay the same. lewis pool would close after a new aquatic center is built in morningside. leif erikson would remain open until the pool is no longer operational. at that time it would be replaced with a splash pad. "we've been talking about it for a long time," said matt salvatore, sioux city parks and recreation director. "for the most part, people seem to be okay with the plan. it's not ideal, but we're moving forward. and we're going to provide a recommendation one way or the other." the pool committee will be presenting the recommendati ons with the parks and recreation advisory committee. that will be this wednesday at four p-m at the long lines family recreation center third floor conference room. the meeting is open to the public. city council.

it is an open case. a south sioux city, nebraska, man faces robbery charges after police say he kicked down the door to a sioux city residence. 20-year-old arturo silvas is charged with 1st degree robbery after police say he entered a home on west 2nd street. authorities say he kicked in the door and threated a man with a handgun. silvas was located a short time later and taken into custody. a judge has sentenced a storm lake, iowa man to five years probation for having explosive devices in a home that's across the street from a preschool. the sentence came after 28-year-old dion caldwell pleaded guilty to possession of an explosive or incendiary device with intent to use it to commit a public offense. caldwell faced a ten- year prison sentence, which a judge suspended in favor of probation. back in march, storm lake police responded to reports of a fight and arrested three people in relation to the altercation. caldwell was arrested after police found several homemade explosive devices, plus the materials

the devices were described as metallic cylinders with gun powder inside and a detonator cord. the police chief said had one exploded, it could have caused damage up to 100 feet away. police have arrested a lake park, iowa man after he allegedly made threats against an area business. 28-year-old daniel wingert was arrested after the spirit lake police department received a call on sunday about those threats. police searched wingert's home in lake park, and arrested him on a "threat of terrorism" charge. the husband and wife who killed 14 people at a california social services agency were "radicalized", and had been for a while. syed farook and his wife tafsheen malik also went target shooting days before the mass shooting at the san bernardino building. that's according to the f-b-i, as authorities today updated the investigation. "stick back as much money as we can into our community and i hope that it gets returned in the process. everything i've tried to do here all the labor that we've had to do the piping, electricity i've done local and i've always tried to do local stuff," said aqua shrimp farmer, dalton van zanten. and when asked what the biggest thing he learned was... "we think this is the next thing. all of the shrimp that comes to the united states currently gets imported. it comes from china or the asian countries and we don't know how that shrimp is raised we know how our shrimp is raised," said rachel van zanten. they say they're happy to provide another option to buy seafood in iowa. while one nebraska couple's home christmas display continues to grow, so does siouxland's holiday cheer. gene watchorn and julie mcdowell of ponca, nebraska, have been decking their halls with christmas spirit for over 30 years. but over the last 10 years, the array of decorations has grown to what it is today. to date, the arrangement includes over 100 inflatables, 17 full-size christmas trees and several hundred nutcrackers and animations. more than 1,000 people visited the home last year and the couple are on pace to have even more visitors this holiday season. "it's spectacular," said first time visitor, diane hoyt. "you wouldn't believe that a display this beautiful would be sitting out here in out-state nebraska, or the people who put that much time and energy and love into providing a display
