morning. that search turned up additional stolen property. the two men face a laundry list of charges. about 100 members of the oromo community of siouxland marched for an hour and a half to the federal building, in sioux city, this afternoon. the purpose was to protest the ethiopian government taking of farmland in their home country of ethiopia. the marchers said the ethiopian government has taken land over the last few weeks without compensation. one of the marchers says that action led to student protests in ethiopia. he says the ethiopian government has shot and killed many of those protesters. "we born there," "there's no place to go for those people. that's why these kids they come out arere protesting. we are sharing their pain." the marchers, here in sioux city, say they will continue to protest until their voices are heard. they hope lawmakers will take their message to washington d-c. weather. (sheila) a city project should make it easier to navigate rail traffic through sioux city. (matt) at an open h hse, tonight, city engineers updated their progress on the proposed viaduct at 18th street. the proposed viaduct project will begin at floyd boulevard and span the railroad tracks. it will end east of the

and steuben street. nstruction could begin as early as february 2017, and is anticipated to take 18 months to complete. city engineer glenn ellis says it's important to keep the public informed. "we have 60 percent of the design plans completed. they have been reviewed. and we're just informing the public of the changes that will take place with the roadway network at steuben street and floyd boulevard, and the potential closures of railroad track crossings in the e ea." said glenn ellis, city engineer, city of sioux city. project activities would include, but not be limited to, construction of the new bridge, concrete pavement, curb and gutter, and storm sewer improvements. traffic will be maintained during construction, however, there will be times where detours would be required. sioux city city council members are hoping to complete the city's recreational trail system soon. according to the city's parks and recreation director, it will take 10- and-a-half million dollars to complete all the trails. three-and-a-half million of that will pay for the three mile trail from chautauqua park to chris larsen park.

"we have a lot going for us. we compete with-we're in a a i- state area so we're competing with the other states, nebraska and south dakota and their communities. and we have to be very competitive." some of the future trail connection projects include the clark school to outer drive trail, the perry creek trail to outer drive trail connection, and the riverside park trail to war eagle park. the city is also looking at regional trailil connections. that would include trails to sergeant bluff, as well as, a 33 mile connection to le mars. sioux city leaders have approved nearly 300- thousand dollars to pay for studies of various projects in the fiscal year that started just five months ago. with the growing economy in sioux city, there continues to be new additions and improvements made. some of that growth comes through studies approved by the city, city leaders say. "a lot of people often question why the city enters into these agreements for consultant studies and in large part because we don't have the expertise in house to padmore, sioux city city

city leaders say another reason studies are beneficial are because they allow parties, that aren't affiliated with city, to make a neutral observation. other sioux city studies approved for fiscal year 2016 include: community assessment, a bridgeport traffic study, campground site analysis, a trail study, the leeds/floyd corridor study and the neighborhood housing study. with plans for cone park underway, the city is looking for more grants to fund the multi-million dollar project. the parks and recreation already two-point-eight million dollars in private funding for the park. there is also 850-thousand dollars from the city and county. on wednesday, the city's parks and recreation director was in des moines to secure final funding for cone park. he says the committee would like to see more private financial contribution toward the project. (sheila) an eight-year-old child's wish for christmas cards has gone viral and people around the (matt) sa'fyre was severely burned in a fire that claimed the lives of her family two and a half years ago. now, this little survivor's small wish has turned into something much bigger. jessica

"we have lots of cards at home" but sa'fyre terry wanted enough cards to fill the entire card tree her aunt - a woman she now calls mama - bought at a thrift store. (natsot aunt) "i'm so touched" it's been a rough few years for the family. sa'fyre was the only survivor of a suspected arson that killed her father, sister and two brothers in schenectady two and a half years ago. the now 8 year old suffered burns to three quarters of her body. wednesday, this sweet little survivor was anxious to get to the post office to see if there was anything in her po box yet. you see - her wish had been shared around the world on facebook. (natsot) reporter: how many cards do you think there's gonna be? sa'fyre: 20 and then - something magical happened. the post master rolled out an entire mail bin overflowing with cards and packages. (natsot) "this is all for you sa'fyre, merry sa'fyre was stunned. (natsot) "look at all the cards." "what!"

holding your baby for the first time after its born is an incredible experience. but women who have c- sections don't often get those first precious moments with their babies, until now. (sheila) a few siouxland hospitals have put into practice a new procedure for baby and mom. ktiv's sarah te slaa shows us.

chest so they have that bonding experience," says stephanie hill, the ob supervisor at cherokee regional medical center. the procedure is routinely done for vaginal births, but baby hope is the first at the hospital to go through it for c- section babies. 11:16 "it helps that transition process from delivery to normalize baby's heart rate and temps and blood sugars as well and just an easier transition into life," says kelli hueser, an rn with cherokee regional medical center. it also encourages babies to breast feed. 8:06 "increases breast feeding rates and breast feed a lot longer and better if they have skin to skin within the first hour so our goal is to have uninterrupted skin to skin in that first hour and through that first breast feeding session," says hill. 8:19 before, nurses cleaned, warmed, and swadled c-sectioned babies, then put the wrapped up bundled of joy on mom's chest or into dad's arms. then mom and baby were separated for up to an hour while doctors finished the surgery. but now, if mom and baby are doing ok, they get uninterrupted skin to skin cuddle time. 11:40 "it helps that bonding that you see with mom and baby you want that

"mainly because of the sterility of the or, when you are doing a c-section, you want to keep everything sterile because you have an incision on the mother opened up, so there were thoughts of maintining sterile environments, and there have been some studies done on it and more comfort with it and kind of a slow progression, so we are starting to see it come into being now," says dr. chris vandelune, d.o., cherokee regional medical center. cherokee isn't the only hospital
