a sioux city firm has been awarded the contract to repair an endangered fish habitat in northeast nebraska. western contracting corporation will do the work in a backwater area near ponca state park. the area provides space for the endangered pallid sturgeon to feed and spawn. it was damaged in the massive 2011 missouri river flood. western contracting will be paid one and 3- quarter million dollars. the repair work is expected to start in january and continue throughout next year. here's meterologist ben dorenbach.

and so with this low pressure moving through you can see that swirl. we're seeing snow making its way from kansas on into parts of illinois and iowa, i should say, and we've got a deets ent amount of snow coming in with that cold air, upwards of a foot and a half or more through the rockies and cascades and great news for the skiers. the christmas gift there for anybody who lovers to ski. that's winter is making it's quick return here to siouxland with colder temperatures and even some wintry precipitation. the storm system that moved into the region saturday night is continuing to give us overcast and rainy conditions this evening. the rain is expected increase in intensity as we head throughout the night and as the temperatures begin to fall off, we may see the rain mix with and even change over to a little bit of snow. the low pressure center will begin to exit the region monday morning, leaving behind colder temperatures along with blustery winds. our next chance of snow comes on tuesday as another, more wintry system, moves into the mid-west. temperatures will continue their plummet as we progress through our work week with highs back below freezing come thursday. see graphics >> and that's your late weather.
