what the threat was. just that it was something written inside a bathroom of the school. whatever it was, it was enough to prompt school officials to tell students they could not bring backpacks to school today. following the arrest, students were allowed and did have backpacks in class. while the threat was made at the high school, one mother, whose kids go to the elementary school, kept them home today as a precaution. "i felt that as a parent, us parents are our kids' voice," said kourtney dagel. "we speak for their children. nobody really knows who this kid is." the superintenden t said only the one student was involved. they are not releasing that individuals name. we've put in multiple calls to the sheldon police department. they have not returned those at this time. in the newsroom, sam curtiss, ktiv news four. tonight, the search is on for two missing children from storm lake, iowa. two family members face kidnapping charges in connect with their disappearance. authorities believe family

one-year-old yamir banks from the department of human services. their father 32-year-old scott banks and their grandmother 50-year-old dionne pamon both face kidnapping charges. investigators believe the children might be traveling to chicago and could be in danger. if you know where to find the children call the storm lake police department at (712) 732-8010 or 911. the sentencing of a northeast iowa teenager charged in the traffic deaths of two siouxland girls last year--has been pushed back. 18-year-old trevor feauto of clarksville was supposed to be sentenced today. he pleaded gulity last month to two counts of felony vehicular homicide. prosecutors say feauto was driving drunk in august of last year when his pickup truck crashed into a car near breda, iowa. bailey jacobsen and lindsey quirk, both 16 and both of wall lake, iowa, were killed in the collision. the judge says he has some things to take into consideration before sentencing. feauto's attorney says after review of the pre-

impact statements, a number of questions have been raised. the sentencing is now set for january 19th at the sac county courthouse. a south dakota prison inmate convicted in clay county has died. seventy-year-old frederick sealey passed away at a hospital in sioux falls following an extended illness. sealey was convicted of criminal pedophilia in 2001. he received a 35-year sentenced with 10-years suspended. a deer hunter was hurt in a weekend accident in palo alto county. it happened at basswood recreation area east of emmetsburg, yesterday morning. dnr officials say 70-year- old david william clark from marshallton was sitting on a log with a loaded shotgun. the gun went off and hurt his hand. clark was treated at the palo alto county hospital in emmetsburg for his injury. flooding in december. parts of siouxland are under flood warnings tonight. let's toss it over to chief meteorologist ron demers to see which areas need to be on high alert. weather ad-lib flood warning in effect for calhoun, carroll, sac & crawford counties until 10:45 a.m. tuesday

county from 6 am tuesday until 1 pm wednesday siouxland is sitting in between two storm systems. the one from the weekend has moved onto the northeast but not before giving eastern siouxland as much as 3 to 5 inches of rain over the past three days and has caused some flooding. the next system is going to affect locations west of siouxland much more than us, but holt county is far enough west that they have been put in a winter weather advisory from tuesday morning until midday on wednesday for snow accumulations in the 2 to 4 inch range. the rest of us will see more of a mix and not too much snow accumulation.

dean and her family have lived in early for five years and said they've never had flooding like this. and now, she has some advice for other homeowners in the same situation... "get flood insurance. make sure you have maybe sand bags if you know the rain's coming. use youre best judgement honestly," said early, ia homeowner, melissa dean. for now, the deans are working on sealing their basement and adding a new coat of waterproof paint. "the rain has let up for now and we'll see what comes of the flooding. in sac city, iowa...tommie clark...ktiv news 4." >> and with that rain, it's important to stay safe on the roads. sioux city police officers say if there's any water on the roads-- make sure to avoid it. they say cars can be swept away if there's 12 inches of water on the roads. and, if you're using cruise control, disengage it and drive manually if you're around any water. "if the road is wet, take caution. the roads are the most dangerous right after it rains because the

has not had a chance to wash away the oils or anything so the roads are most slick after it rains so just slow down," said sioux city police officer, brent heald. officer heald says they have not seen any accidents due to the flooding so far today. and, high water an issue for the boyer river in the crawford county community of denison, iowa today. the farmland foods pork plant actually had to send workers home today because of the flood threat. good news through, this afternoon the river started to go back down. it fell about 6 inches. the town of luther in boone county is a mess. basements are flooded.. the city park is under water. city hall has also taken on water. crews are trying to pump water out... but it's hard to keep up when it keeps raining. today history has been made in des moines, iowa. governor terry branstad is now the longest serving governor in american history. ktiv's robert lowe is with live link 4 at the iowa state fairgrounds. robert, this record has stood for quite some time, right?

that may even be an understatement. this record has stood for more than 200 years dating back to pre-constitution time. today marks governor branstad's 7,642nd day in office, surpassing former new york governor, george clinton, who first took office in 1777. but making history isn't new to the governor. he became the youngest serving chief executive in iowa's history when he moved into terrace hill at the age of 36. i spoke with the governor today and he says today's record is something he never set out to accomplish. governor of new york for 21 years," said iowa gov. terry branstad."today, i surpass his days in office. this is surreal, i never imagine it would happen." now, here at the iowa state fairgrounds, more than 1,000 people have bought tickets to hear the governor speak about

district and the ikm-manning school district were the only ones in the state to get the national honor. sioux city will get $20,000 to replace or retrofit an older diesel school bus. ikm-manning will get $40,000 for two buses. the awards are part of more than $7 million in rebates going out to 85 school bus fleets in 35 states. the epa says by using clean diesel technology it creates cleaner and healthier air for children and the community. december, typically a time of season for snow, cold and. golf? that's right, it has been warm enough recently that norfolk country club, along with others, is still open for play. one member of the norfolk public golf team has been practicing everyday that the weather permits, taking full advantage of the unexpected practice time. "usually there is snow on the ground and it is pretty cold this time of year. so, it is a real privilege to be able to golf," said rossman. kellenrossman said he is practicing for the state championships and as long as the good weather lasts, he'll be out there playing.

awarded the contract to repair an endangered fish habitat on the missouri river in northeast nebraska. western contracting corporation will do the work in a backwater area near ponca state park. the area provides space for the endangered pallid sturgeon to feed and spawn. it was damaged in the massive 2011 missouri river flood. the pallid sturgeon is considered "critically endangered" because only a small popular remains in the wild. western contracting will be paid one and 3- quarter million dollars. the repair work is expected to start in january and continue throughout next year. the two missing children from storm lake iowa have been found safe in buena vista county. stoprm lake police say they are currently in polie custody. they were found roughly 6 p.m. this evening. authorities cannot tell us where exactly they were located just that it was somewhere in the county. brad's here -- u-s-d has found their new football coach. the coyotes are getting a coach who is within their conference

the south dakota football program has been making steady progress in their move to the fcs level. last month, after four years at his alma mater -- head coach joe glenn announced his retirement at the age of 66. now, usd has found their next

their own conference. bob nielson of western illinois, the reigning coach of the year in the missouri valley football conference, has been hired as south dakota's new head coach. the 56-year-old has compiled a 186-80-1 record in 23 seasons as a head coach -- including the last three at western illinois. he led minnesota- duluth to ncaa division ii national championships in 2008 and 2010, and he was voted division ii coach of the year both seasons. this past season, nielson led western illinois to the playoffs. he'll be formally introduced at a press conference on tuesday at 1 o'clock. iowa state's jameel mckay is the co-big 12 player of the week. the senior averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds in three iowa state wins. mckay's best game came against the hawkeyes, where he scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. mckay shot 69 percent from the field and was 7-for-10 from the line in wins over buffalo, iowa and arkansas-pine bluff. he recorded a pair of double-doubles in the three games. iowa's jared uthoff shares player of the week honors in the big ten. the 6-9 senior from cedar rapids

and 2 blocks per game. uthoff had a career-high 32 points against the cyclones -- including 30 in the first half. he also had 27 points in 23 minutes of action in a win western illinois. for the week uthoff shot 61 percent from the field and 69 percent from three- point range. in the new ap men's basketball poll -- iowa state falls a spot to fifth -- despite being 9 and 0. the cyclones play northern iowa on saturday night in the big 4 classic in des moines. iowa got three votes -- heading into saturday's afternoon's contest against drake, also in des moines. michigan state stays number-1, getting 64 of 65 first place votes. the first iowa boys high school basketball poll of the season was released late this afternoon. western christian is one of the championship contenders in class 2a. the wolfpack are 2 and 0 after beating a good spirit lake team, 78-48 on friday night. western also opened the season with a 16-point win over lemars. the wolfpack went 22-3 last season, without a senior on their roster. senior josh van lingen had 21
