food bank of siouxland executive director, linda scheid. on the other side of the railroad tracks sits alignment specialists. the owner of the automotive repair facility says closing 11th street would hurt his business as well. "the viaduct, i'm 100% behind it. it's great, another avenue of getting over the trains like outer belt, it's fantastic. but my real problem is taking away 11th street. you're affecting a lot of people," said alignment specialists owner and manager, rick coury. he says his business attracts people from outside sioux city and he needs that through street to get to his place. told the city might also look into closing 28th street instead of 11th street at the crossing. storm lake police are filling in a few more details about the disappearance of two young siblings and the arrest of their father and grandmother. police say 3-year old ymani banks and one-year-old yamir banks were found at a home in alta about six 'o clock last night. witnesses told police the children were dropped off by another family member earlier monday. police say the witnesses were unaware of a court order that the children be turned over to authoritieie the children's father, 32- year-old scott banks and their grandmother, 50-year-old dionne pamon are both charged with kidnapping. they're accused of hiding the children from officials with the iowa department of human services. the children have been turned over to the custody of d-h-s. no injuries reported when a car crashed into a house in spirit lake, iowa. the dickinson county sheriff's office says 23-year-old jamie leckband was driving when she failed to stop at a stop sign. the vehicle kept going and collided with a house. no one was home at the time.

at 45 he'll visit the sioux county livestock company in sioux center. he'll end the evening in estherville at the local vfw at 7:30. friday morning he'll be in emmetsburg at woodford equipment at 8:30. then he'll tour the posi-tech rporation in laurens at 1.. memeodist manor in storm lake at 2:45, then he'll be in sac city at 5 'o clock friday evening. this evening, nebraska state senator jim scheer announced his campaign for re-election in 2016. senator scheer will soon be completing his first 4 year term, and before that he served on the district 3 nebraska board of educatatn. education, roads and taxes are issues that scheer looks to address in the final year of his first term, and potentially for another 4 years if he wins re-election. "with the session starting the 6th of january and i will be in lincoln pretty much full time between january 6th and february 15th i just wanted the district to know; one, how appreciative i am to be able to represent them, and two, i do intend on asking them for the pleasure to represent them again."

the city's red-light cameras posted around town. officials with sioux city community schools say they can't comment on the resignation of north high's band director. lucas sursely stepped down on friday, according to spokesperson alison benson. it's the district's policy to not talk about personnel matters. the assistant band director is filling in until someone else is hired. to help brighten the holidays for local kids, one anonymous siouxland donor went above and beyond "oh yeah!" last week, the boys and girls club of sioux city surprised their girls with over 100 bicycles that were donated anonymously. today, it was the boys' turn for a holiday surprise. 225 bikes were donated by the same anonymous donor. the boys' bikes alone ring up to a total donation amount of 75 thousand dollars. unlike other donations the boys' club has received in the past, this donation is special. "this was a really interesting donation because it was completely unsolicited," said boys club of sioux city's chief professional officer eldon benson. "someone called us and they had decided that this is something that they wanted to do for the kids of sioux city. a lot of our kids come from low-income

this afternoon as the new head coach of the coyotes. nielson was named the mvfc coach of the year after leading the leathernecks to the playoffs this season. before spending three years at western illinois, he won two ncaa division ii national titles at minnesota- duluth. so, at the age of 56, what attracted him to the job at south dakota? "the leadership that has a strong vision f f the future of a division oneeootball progrgrm," said nielson. "as you get to be my age, people are extremely important. a program that has the vision of moving forward and continuing to do the things that you're going to need to do to compete at a national level is something i wanted to be a part of." nieleln takes over a usd program that went 5-6 lala season. he replaces joe glenn, who retired last month. dordt has hired joel penner as their new head football coach. penner spent the last four years as the offensive coordinator at malone university

he has 16 years of college football coaching experience, including three years at northwestern college in orange city from '09 to 20- 11. penner graduated from trinity international in illinois. he replaces joel youngblood, who was 4 and 18 over the past two seasons. morningside quarterback ryan kasdorf has been named a first team naia all- american. the senior from california threw for almost 4-thousand yards -- leading the mustangs to a 12 and 2 record and a fifth straight gpac title. kasdorthrew 45 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. offensive lineman joe brummer made the second team. brummer started all 54 games in his morningside career. northwestern's sam van ginkel made the first team as a defensive end. the junior from rock valley, iowa, ranked seventh in thth nation with 9 and a half sacks. van ginkel is just one and a half sacks away from setting the northwestern career record. justin wohlert made the second team. the senior from hartley, iowa, finished his career with 14 interceptions. the cherokee girls moved up two spots in this week's class 3a basketball rankings, to

to a perfect start. . cherokok is 4 and 0, which includes an 11-point win overenth-ranked spirit lake. the lady braves rank first in class 3a in scoring, averaging 83 points per game. senior kaely hummel is averaging almost 27 points per game, second in 3a. cherokee is making their shots count -- they're fifth in field goal percentage -- and second in three point percentage. "early in the season we're just trying to do the little things," said cherokee head coach heath hagberg. "we're trying to get them to play hard all the time, get them to understand the big philosophy of what we're doing. the help-side defense, reversing the ball sharing the ball, getting the ball from side to side. doing the little things, boxing out on the defensive end, just taking care of those little, fine details that mean a lot at the end of the game." cherokee is in lemars tonight. iowa state's naz mitrou- long will miss the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from surgery on both of his hips during the offseason. mitrou-long had surgery on his left hip in april and his right hip in may. he played in the first eight games this season for the fifth-ranked cyclones, averaging 12 pointst.
