matt breen has the night off. four students arrested after a school threat evacuated a high school in northeast nebraska. ktiv/us92's mike flood with the latest on the investigation in newman grove.

away. as for the rest of the day, they spent a little time after that sweeping the school just to see if anything was left behind or if anybody else was involved, and by 2:30, it was business as usual. "we are very lucky to have officers in and around our community to help us deal with these types of situations," said newman grove superintendent, mikel shalikow. now parents were alerted that the school had been placed on lockdown. school officials say they'd like to call everybody and let them know exactly what happened, but things are moving so quickly. the good news is, at the end of the day, all of the kids, the parents, the teachers went home safely. four students remain in custody tonight. in newman grove for news 4, mike flood. >> the madison county attorney will now decide what changes the teens face and if they will be tried as adults. the los angeles school district reopened today after receiving a bomb threat yestereday. the district shut down 900 schools, keeping 600,000 students out of class.

threat was emailed to the school district and mentioned explosive devices and weapons. today, the fbi says it was a hoax. more officers plan to be at schools in la this week to make sure students and staff are safe. it's feeling a lot colder out there. but is that going to be the trend? for that, let's toss it over to chief meteorologis t ron demers. much of siouxland woke up to a little bit of sleet and snow this morning but the heaviest amounts easily fell farther northwest. it will get a little colder tonight as temps fall through the 20s and with a breezy northwest wind it will be feeling like it's in the single digits and teens. we'll keep quite a few clouds around tonight and tomorrow and highs tomorrow will mostly be in the upper 20s. spots throughout sioux city saw

ice and snow this morning. you could see snow on the rooftops. grass could still be seen through the snow. one sioux city resident even threw salt down to prevent people from falling down. the town of colman, south dakota hard by last night's winter storm. around nine inches blanketed the town... making the job for their one full-time public works employee a challenging one. it takes more than six hours for the city to plow all the main and residential roads. and, there are some major differences between the way colman digs out compared to larger cities. is the big and a summer time help guy

seasonal. for being a one man show, and taking care of all the snow removal, it's a lot of work for just one guy." the community actually rallies around each other to help dig out. passengers in south falls spent seven hours on a plane trapped on the tarmac. instead of taking off for atlanta, the plane stayed put because other planes were waiting to get de-iced. passengers did have the option to get off the plane. a new federal rule says passengers cannot be on the plane waiting to take off for more than three hours. delta says it didn't break any rules today. the mayor of baltimore is calling for respect and unity after a mistrial was declared in the trial of an officer charged in the death of freddie gray. nbc's jay gray with an update tonight.

police officers to face trial after freddie gray died last april.. from a severe spinal injury that occurred while he was in custody.. in the back of a police transport van. this afternoon gray's family called for peace.. as the legal process continues.. a sheriff's deputy in madison county, nebraska is being call a hero after his brave actions were caught on video. two week ago, 911 dispatchers received a call about a reckless semi driver on highway 81 at the platte county line. deputies caught up with the tractor trailer near madison using their lights and sirenen when they became concerned because the truckckouldn't stop. madison county deputy todd volk was working that day and knew something didn't sound right. he says the driver just had a blank stare on his face. the semi then barreled towards norfolk. so, at that point, deputy volk knew something needed to be done. "as he came by, i couldldee the driver's head slumped down and felt he was not conscious. at that point in time, the truck was traveling about 20 mph, i jumped back in my patrol hicle, punched it and got up in front and jumped out and jumped up and grabbed the hand railing and the mirror on the side of the truck

the driver suffered a diabetic reaction. the madison county sheriff says volk risked his life to save others that day. a big shock for an iowa television reporter who was reporting on a bank robbery in rochester, minnesota yesterday. :21 "just 24 hours ago. that's the bank robber? he's right over there? according to bank employee.. i have to call 911 i'll talk to you later." :45 reporter adam sallet was outside the bank when a bank employee ran out and pointed out the robbery suspect. the suspect was arrested south of minneapolis. he's suspected of robbing the bank two days in a row. for the first time in nearly a decade, the federal reserve raised its key interest rate by 25 points. the federal reserve chair, made the announcement this afternoon, following a two-day meeting in

"i kept getting them as gifts," said jacque goettsch. her collection is up to 243

in the hoard. "1988," said jacque goettsch. "i got it at the old bostwick store which is now shopko." of the 243, only three are duplicates. "i opened them all on the same night," said jacque goettsch. "it was on a family christmas. i got one from one sister, one from another sister and one from niece and when i opened them they said 'oh i didn't know you got the same one'." she has all different types including this on made by her dad. around the rest of her home, 53 nativity displays. and one room dedicated to the jolly red man. "christmas is my hobby," said jacque goettsch. goettsch says it takes her about a wewe and a half to set up the decorations. "each one i have to dudu off and look at andndemember who gave it to me," said jacque goettsch. "there's a lot of memories down here for me." but goettsch's collection isn't quite complete. the retired nurse needs just one more to be satisfied. "i do not have a nurse nutcracker," said jacque goettsch. come the first week of january her prized set wililbe still be on display. only inside boxexestacked in the garage. "it's priceless to me only," said jacque goettsch. the obama administration is urging the supreme court to reject a marijuana lawsuit from nebraska and oklahoma. the states want t t high court to rule that colorado's legalition of pot is unconstitutio nal. the two states have complained that colorado's action has hindered efforts to enforce anti-marijuana laws in their states. they say combatting marijuana that's coming across the border is a drain on their resources. however, the justice department says that the interstate dispute doesesot belong at the high court. use of illegal drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and prescription painkillers is down among teenagers. the national institute on drug abuse has released its annual survey of 8th, 10th

most drugs continued on a long-time downward trend. but for the first time, high school seniors are smoking more marijuana than regular cigarettes. hookahs, little cigars and e-cigarettes also remained more popular than cigarettes. a new study reveals depression can alter the brain development of young children.n.esearchers studied a group of children who were diagnosed with depression as preschoolers. multiple brain scans showed gray matter in the cortex - which processes emotions -- was smaller and thinner ... than in children without depression. iowa health officials have lowered the state's projected savings for switching its medicaid program to private care. the privatization of iowa's $4.2 billion dollar medicaid program starts on january 1st. today, it was projected the iowa department of human services will save about $47 million in the first 6 months of next year. the department first estimated a cost savings of about $51 million. howeveve some a dhs spokesperson says the department could still save that

the group features two offensive lineman, two defensive backs and a tight end. the highest rated player is d-back d'andre payne, who was a four-star recruit out of high school in washington, dc, and played his freshman year at tennessee. coach campbell also says oh-gay -- oo-dah-goo, originally from nigeria -- is a huge "get" and is an automatic challenger to start in the o-line. iowa's kirk ferentz has been named the eddie robinson coach of the year. he guided the hawkeyes to a perfect 12-0 regular season and a spot in the r re bowl against stanford on new year's day. ferentz ranks seventh all- time in big ten wins and has taken iowa to 13 bowl games in the last 15 seasons. ferentz is also a finalist for the bear bryant and dodd awards. for the fourth year -- iowa's four division one men's college basketball teams will meet in the 'big four classic' in des moines. it's a chance for ththfans to see all four teams on one y in one place. the cyclones take on northern iowa in the late game saturday. iowa state is 9-0 and ranked fifth in the a-p poll. isu has had their trouble
