there will be several debate watch parties across siouxland tonight clinton supporters will gather at the hillary for iowa organizing office. that's at 401 south lewis boulvard a watch party for martin o'malley supporters will be at 1408 nebraska street in sioux city starting at 6:30. and senator bernie sanders's suporters can watch the debate at 1918 pierce st. in sioux city speaking of sanders supporters, a few campaign backers greeted people outside a theater today. and they did so to the theme of star wars. this was outside the promenade theater in downtown sioux city. you can see "big bernie" dressed up as a jedi. volunteers approached movie goers talking about the upcoming caucuses. "i personally think that boots on the ground is s re effective than phone calling, especially lately," said dustin ferguson. "the phone calling hasn't been as effective cause we've been getting a lot of disconnects and wrong numbers but here we can talk to people and they can't hang up on us." they were also letting people know about the vermont senators upcoming visit to siouxland.

week at buena vista university he'll be there on tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on monday, the vermont senator will be speaking at the boys club of sioux city at 7 p.m. the last time sanders campaigned in siouxland was in july. the president has signed a trillion dollar spending bill stopping a government shutdown. it will boost spending for defense and non-defense programs over the coming year. the president fended off efforts to stop federal money for planned parenthood and to place greater restrictions on syrian refugees. republicans secured an end to the ban on most crude oil exports. congress also extended $680 billion in tax cuts for businesses and individuals. republican leaders and the white house have said they feel good about the outcome. a warm december weekend in siouxland= but, will itast, for more we'll toss it over to meterologist tj springer after a cold morning temperatures warmed up quite substantially compared to our friday, with most towns climbing close to 40 degrees. we will continue our warming trend right into our sunday as

and you feel like oh i've seen it, but this is just a fun way to go through again," said sioux city public museum curator of education, theresa weaver-basye. the museum will close at 4 p-m on christmas eve and will stay closed through christmas day. today some local officers spent their afternoon christmas shopping with siouxland kids. they had their annual "shop with a cop" outing. ktiv's tommie clark joins us live in the newsroom. tommie, you were at the walmart on floyd boulevard where the shopping happened. how'd it go today? well robert, the event has been held for over ten years and this is the biggest year yet. local kids partnered with a shopping buddy from the force and hit the aisles of walmart. thirty siouxland kids paired up with officers from both the sioux city police and woodbury county sheriffs departments. they went through the aisles of walmart on floyd boulevard to find the perfect gifts for their

shopper could buy some gifts. "when they spend money on the gifts for their family members they really get to experience the true meaning of the holiday. it's more about giving then it is receiving. it's touching to be able to walk around the store and see these kids that really want to get their mom something, or their dad something, or brother, sister, aunt, uncle, whoever it is," said sioux city police department crime prevention officer, chad sheehan. the walmart on singing hillls also held "shop with a cop" for ten local kids earlier in the day. and at the end of the outing, each kid got a bike and helmet donated by the variety club. tonight at 10-- i followed along with one police officer and the little shopper she was paired with. learn how much this day meant to both of them. robert? thanks tommie. looking forward to it now for one of those stories that captures the magic of the holiday season. carolers from nebraska are spreading good cheer. brian mastre reports.

no one ever really knows what ideas will catch on with the masses. for six weeks these residents of seven oaks retirement community have been preparing for this morning. they're headed to the nearby diner in florence the legendary harold's koffee house. (barb mcdonald - customer :28-:33) "it is a hometown diner where they know you. i'm bad with names but they all know me." several of the seniors were anxious. what would the customers think? (melanie ennen - notre dame sisters :40-:45) ("good morning harold's customers. these are the seven oaks singers." and just like that... natso: "deck the halls with boughs of holly..." ...breakfast took a break. the conversations paused and no one seemed to mind the side order of christmas carols. if she could the owner would add the singers to the menu. table back there they started singing." kenny bowtie, the most musical of the bunch, helps keep them on point, even if the membership rules are fairly laxed. (kenny bowtie - musician 1:27-1:33) "seven oaks singers are whoever shows up and sings, we include them. if they like to sing, that's what counts." some of the singers remember caroling as children and wonder, what happened to those days? (barb mcdonald - customer 2:04-2:17) "i sat here and i enjoyed every minute of it. because when they started to sing they were giving me millions and millions of blessings that you can't get anyplace else." seven christmas songs, 12-minutes worth each followed by applause.

for the fourth year in a row, basketball fans in des moines were treated to the big four classic. all four division-one basketball programs in the state, at the wells fargo arena for two matchups. in the early game, the 7- and-3 iowa hawkeyes were taking on 4-and-6 drake. iowa - of course, 0-and-1 against teams from iowa - with the loss to iowa state. drake gets on the board first - kale abrahamason kicks out to ore arogundade for three - the bulldogs up early. later in the half - hawkeyes move it around to mike gesell - the south sioux grad drills the triple - a team- high 17 points for gesell - iowa up 14- 13. 5 minutes to go in the half - hawks up 7 - reed timmer to the cup - timmer had a great day - scoring a game-high 25 - and griff loving it as well. but near the end of the half - nicholas baer with the huge block - iowa
