(tiffany) friends of the family have set up a fund to collect donations for the seven children the couple leaves behind. donations can be made at the tilden bank. the tilden library is accepting donations of clothing and gift cards for the family. and a gofundme account has also been set up. today, i traveled to tilden.. we'll have the story tonight at 10. sheila? authorities have released the names of the victims who were killed in a crash yesterday afternoon in northwest iowa. the buena vista county sheriff's office says two vehicles collided head-on on highway 7 near the raccoon river bridge, which is west of newell. 19-year-old juan lopez and 46-year-old maria gaitan... both from fonda... were pronounced dead at the scene. the two people in the other vehicle, 27-year-old alex spielman from spencer and a 7-year-old were

hospital in storm lake. authorities continue to investigate. the community of beemer, nebraska mourning the loss of a joseph lemm, the new york city police officer and national guardsman killed in aghanistan earlier this week. he lived in west harrison, new york, but the loss is being felt in his hometown of beemer. those who knew and loved him are opening up about their great loss. (gary schultz/ neighbor) he was so caring all the time, and you could just tell he was sincere. he was in sports, and basketball and football. (doug steffensmeier/ knew lemm's family) he came back after 9/11, went to the high school, talked to the kids, that ty impressive. lemm leaves behind his wife and two children. five other died in the attack by a suicide bomber in afghanistan. it looks like parts of siouxland christmas. let's toss it over to meteorologist ben dorenbach to see how long the snow will last. after a quick burst of snow today that dropped a couple inches or so in some spots while only leaving a coating in sioux city. it was south of our viewing area near omaha that received up to 9 inches of the white stuff! so, yes there will

white christmas, but christmas day itself will be fairly quiet, with perhaps some sunshine in the morning! clouds and eventually a rain/snow mix will move back in late tomorrow and contivue into saturday leaving a few inches of snow in some of our northernmost areas. sioux city should once again be on the low end of the snow totals as winds become strong saturday too. sunday will be a rest day from the precipitation before another chance of snow next monday and tuesday. see graphics. weather ad-lib people traveling this holiday might into some tricky conditions.. everything from snow to tornados in the south! even, sioux city saw a dusting of snow, making it a slick in some spots this morning. but, conditions improved as we headed into the early afternoon. in denison, iowa three to four inches of snow fell. local

christmas carols, and greeting anyone who walked by. in addition to volunteering as a bell ringer for the salvation army, donald decided to hand out teddy bears and other stuffed animals to anyone who would take them. he said it was important to him to give his time to help make the holiday season for others a little brighter. "it makes you feel so good and wonderful, it's a small thing i do, but some people just enjoy. it's like you gave them a million dollars just for one toy." said donald baumgardner. by early this afternoon donald had given away more than four hundred stuffed animims. tonight, an update on a sioux city woman who goes nuts over nutcrackers. last week, we showed you the nutcracker collection of jacque goettsch in that story, she mentioned that she was only missing one nutcracker. a nurse. just a few days later, she received a package in the mail from an anonymous elf. "it was my nurse, a nutcracker" said jacque "it's unbelievable

somebody heard the story," said jacque goettsch. "i had tears in my eyes. i thought, 'wow!' i just couldn't believe it." goettsch still doesn't know who sent her the special nutcracker, but is grateful that the christmas spirit of giving is alive and well. "i was on t.v. and said i don't have a nurse doll and it came in the mail anonymously. it was like a gift," said goettsch. "if they're watching, they made my christmas. it was wonderful." goettsch started her collection back in 1988 and as of last week, it consisted of 243 nutcraraers. now, that number is 244. some people haven't opened gifts yet but already know that they'll be making exchanges on saturday. later at 6: look at just how many people could be out

five-miles suggest selling your unwanted gifts on their app. they call it re-gifting to yourself.. so you can get cash to buy something you really want. the app is like craigslist.. connecting people who live near each other to buy and sell goods. as last-minute shoppers finish upupheir shopping this christmas eve... many will be grabbing gift cards. the national retail federation asked consumers about their shopping intentions should they receive a gift card. its survey found most people will likely watch for really good sales or promotions to maximize the value of their gift card. nearly 20 percent said they'll use that gift card as quickly as they can. another 19 percent said they'll save it for a rainy day or for a time when thth feel the need to treat themselves. the number of hogs in south dakota as the year comes to an end is up 7 percent from the previous year. the latest report from the u.s. department of agriculture shows hogs and pigs in the state on december 1st totaled over 1 million. the breeding hog inventory was 175,000 and the market hog invenenry was over 1 million head.

for warmer weather. the hawkeye football team hopped on a plane today -- bound for california and a date with stanford in the rose bowl on new year's day. the football team boarded their flight in cedar rapids surrounded by their families for the chrisisas eve sendoff. the players were excited as they took pictures of each other and themselvesto document the big day. once in california, the hawkeyes will share a practice facility with stanford -- finishing off the 15 bowl practices that each team is allowed. the hawkeyes have a lot of work, and a lot of fun, ahead of them. "disneyland, i'm sure that's going to be a fun time for the guys, to be able to just enjoy the moment," said senior jordan lomom. "to be able to be in disneyland, i've never been there before, i'm sure a lot of
