lots of returns and exchanges of those christmas gifts that didn't work out. some shoppers said they're even looking for stocking stuffers for next year. opinions were pretty mixed when it came to how busy today was. shoppers say whether stores were busy or not-- all came down to the deals. "the good deals...getting good bargains," said larissa waggoner "we're just looking out for christmas deals, seeing anything we can grab for clearance prices," said kelsey momsen. i also spoke with some employees from some findndut what they had to say about the after christmas rush, at 10. robert? if you got a gift card that you don't want.. there are ways to exchange it for one you'd prefer. many target stores are now offering an exchange program that enables you to turn in a third party gift card for a target gift card with a lesser value. the exchange takes place at the mobile phone counter inside target stores. you can also use websites like cardpool and cardcash. and that coinstar kiosk in the

you can scan a gift card there and coinstar will make you an offer to get cash on the spot. an update on a sioux city woman who goes nuts over nutcrackers. last week, we showed you the nutcracker collection of jacque goettsch. in that story, jacque, who is a retitid nurse, mentioned that she was only missing one nutcracker. a nurse nutcracker. just a few days later, she received a package in the mail from an anonymous elf. "it was my nurse, a nutcracker" said jacque "it's unbelievable that somebody heard the story," said jacque goettsch. "i had tears in my eyes.s. thought, 'wow!' i just couldn't believe it." goettsch started her collection back in 1988 and as of last week, it consisted of 243 nutcrackers. now, that number is 244. if you found a drone under the tree this christmas.. there are some things you need to do before taking to the skies. nbc's blake mccoy reports.

(nat - humming as drone crashes onto ground) the bishoff's are some of the 400,000 ericans estimated to have received a drone this holiday. but learning to fly it -- is only one obstacle. stand up with all that activity buzzing the skies -- the government is clamping down. from now on -- anyone flying a drone -- must first register with the faa. the new rules apply to anyone over 13. you must give your name, address and email. the cost - is 5 dollars but that's being waived for the first 30 days. s/ian gregor/federal aviaiaon administration "as soon as you start flying you're in effect a pilot and there's responsibilities that come with being a pilot and there are rules and regulations that apply to them." the faa says registration -- allows them to share rules with people -- like staying below 400 feet. and no flying within 5 miles of an airport. nat airline pilots report 100 drone sightings and close calls each month. in january -- thth drone crashed onto the white house lawn. and just this week -- this video went viral -- after a drone nearly crashed onto a professional skier. that sort of clumsiness -- has james barnes bracing for a post-holiday rush -- at his new jersey drone academy. s/james barnes/new jersey drone academy "before june, up to 500 students."

next, more potent snow storm moves toward us sunday night with increasing clouds. snow will begin monday morning and will increase in intensity as the preeipitation moves into siouxland your 7-day forecast is coming up in 10 minutes two big highway construction projects have gotten the okay to continue in siouxland. the iowa department of transportation has received bids of nearly $127-million- dollars for widening projects on bobo u-s highway 20 and interstate 29. one will pay for grading and paving of the highway 20 expansion from correctionville to holstein. that's part of an expansion to four lanes from just east of moville to early. the interstate 29 project will replace seven bridges and complete other paving and grarang work as part of a $400- million-dollar plan. that will widen the freeway to six lanes near sergeant bluff to the south dakota border.

inmate who walked away from a correctional facility in yankton shortly before midnight christmas eve is back in custody. the south dakota department of corrections says 26-year-old dustin emery was arrested by the yankton police department yesterday, hours after he left the yankton community work center. emery is serving concurrent sentences for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance out of yankton county. crossfit spencer in spencer, iowa held a special workout program this morning. it's called the "the beastmode" hero workout and it's honoring the memory of wrestler, austin roberts. roberts died last week while competing in the championship match in the 220-pound weight division of the spencer tigers home wrestling invitational. the workout began with a prayer and then the lifting began. around 30 people showed up and each person made a donation to the robertsts family. crossfit spencer raised over $750 for the family.

giving us sunshine for the day on sunday along with cold temperatures. highs are expected to be in the low 20s around the viewing area. our next, more potent snow storm moves toward us sunday night with increasing clouds. snow will begin monday morning and will increase in intensity as the precipitation moves into siouxland. blustery ne winds will be accompanying the system so blowing snow will also be factor. visibilities will be greatly decreasing throughout the day. snow totals of 6-10" are expected for most of the viewing area. some light snow may linger into tuesday afternoon as a little disturbance moves through. as this system exits siouxland we can expect cold temperatures through new year's day with highs barely making it to the 20 degree mark.

jeff: to show you how to save your life, we have come here to frigid utah. it is cold here. and this is tracey christensen from wasatch backcountry rescue. my first instinct would be to tell my family to stay in the car and i would get out and try to go get help. tracy: no that is one of the biggest mistakes you can make leaving your vehicle. stay in your car. jeff: why? tracy: it's frigid out there it's cold out there. if you don't know where you're goininyou can die from frostbite and hypothermia. jeff: and you were saying rescuers have an easier time finding a car then some random person walking on a road? tracy: we will find you if you stay in your vehicle. but how should you stay warm? should you "run the engine or save gas?" tracy christensen/wasatc h backcountry rescue--rossen two shot car @ 11:05:0:0tracy: we would suggest that you can run n our car for ten minunus an hr to stay warm. but you also need to make sure that you're conserving fuel 'cause you could be here for the long haul. but it is ok to run your car. jeff: for ten minutes every hour. tracy christensen/wasatc h backcountry rescue--rossen two shot car @ 11:06:34 tracy: here's another tip for ya, always make sure the exhaust pipe is clear and free from snow so that carbon monoxide doesn't enter the car and poison. nebraska and ucla is less than two hours away. it's nothe first time these teams have met but will be the first time in a bowl game. the 5-7 huskers benefitted from a shortage of six win teams, thus how they were invited to a bowl. nebraska has spent the week out in sananrancisco practicing as well as taking in the sights. ucla finished 8-4 and won the last matchup, 41-21, between the schools in 2013. on friday, the huskers moved practice to stanford so players could practice on a grass field. ototr than that, head cocoh mike riley says you shouldn't see very much different, player wise, in tonights game. "no thoughts of any different rotation," said mike riley. we'll update you on that game tonight at 10. as nebraska's bowl week winds down, iowa's is just getting started. the hawkeyes are in los angeles and along with the fun teams get to have during bowl weeks, kirk ferentz has preached knowing how to mix business with pleasure. mark woodley from our sister station kwwl has the latest from los angeles. the hawkeyes have said all along is is a business trip. they've come out here to southern california to win a football game and it's going to take a lot of focus to get that done against a tough stanford cardinal team. and of course when you think about stanford, the first name that comes to mind is christian mccaffery,the a-p player of the year, and a guy who can get it done both running and catching the football. it's also a stanford squad that's big and fast defensively and the hawkeyes know they're in for a challenge if they want to win in pasadena for the first time in more than 40 years.
