thanks for joining us, i'm robert lowe it's the day after christmas and that means local stores are rolling out those after- christmas shopping deals. ktiv's tommie clark visited with people around siouxland and found out how big the rush was today.

"super busy. in the morning i got here and it wasn't as bad and then it hit afternoonish and it was crazy. everybody was coming in with returns, with coupons, with exchanges of sizes. we've had lines on our cash register since 12 so it's quite busy," said rue 21 sales associate, joanna soto. according to an american express survery, the day after christmas may be the busiest shopping day of the year...surpassi ng black friday and cyber monday. and, employees from siouxland stores...agree. "a ton of people behind you and you're just like i need to get this transaction done because i need to go on to the next one and so it's been hectic. there's really good deals around christmas time so it's a really good time to shop here," said rue 21 sales associate, joanna soto. shoppers say whether stores were busy...all came down to the deals. "the good deals...getting good bargains," said larissa waggoner. "we're just looking out for christmas deals, seeing anything we can grab for clearance prices," said kelsey momsen. there's those bogos, buy one get one half off, coupons and gift cards shoppers are excited to spend. "they save. they save a lot of money so i think that's one of the main reasons they come out here," said rue 21

from burning homes. a successful effort. helped by a change in the winds -- sot: norm plott division chief, ventura county fire department "it is a very dynamic fire the fire is going to resist our control. december is not typically fire season in california -- but with the historic drought -- fire season is now all year long. >> back here, two big highway construction projects have gotten the okay to continue in siouxland. the iowa department of transportation has received bids of nearly $127-million- dollars for widening projects on both u-s highway 20 and interstate 29. one will pay for grading and paving of the highway 20 expansion from correctionville to holstein. that's part of an expansion to

the interstate 29 project will replace seven bridges and complete other paving and grading work as part of a $400- million-dollar plan. that will widen the freeway to six lanes near sergeant bluff to the south dakota border. after our christmas day storm, there will be a lull in the snow, but just for a couple of days. high pressure will briefly build in giving us sunshine for the day on sunday along with cold temperatures. highs are expected to be in the low 20s around the viewing area. our next, more potent snow storm moves toward us sunday night with increasing clouds. snow will begin monday morning and will increase in intensity as the precipitation moves into siouxland your 7-day forecast is coming up in 10 minutes one siouxland man is facing

a drug bust. yesterday, le mars officers and plymouth county deputies served a search warrant for narcotics. they searched a house on 1st avenue northwest and as a result, officers found remanants of a "clandestine lab," or a secret lab. 30-year-old, chase kounkel, was arrested and transported to plymouth county jail. he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. the investigation remains ongoing. a minimum-security state prison inmate who walked away from a correctional facility in yankton shortly before midnight christmas eve is back in custody. the south dakota department of corrections says 26-year-old dustin emery was arrested by the yankton police department yesterday, hours after he left the yankton community work center.

sentences for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance out of yankton county. crossfit spencer in spencer, iowa held a special workout program this morning. it's called the "the beastmode" hero workout and it's honoring the memory of wrestler, austin roberts. roberts died last week while competing in the championship match of the spencer tigers home wrestling invitational. the workout began with a prayer and then the lifting began. austin wrestled at the 220-pound weight class so they completed 220 reps per round. around 30 people showed up and each person made a donation to the roberts family. crossfit spencer raised over $750 for the family. . trainers say they wanted to open their gym to anyone in the area who needed to relieve some stress during this difficult time. switching gears, sam curtiss joining us now. iowa gearing up for the rose bowl but not without some fun first. that's the fun part for these

few teams asked to play in a bowl game. and they were awarded a great matchup with 8-4 ucla in the foster farms bowl which was tonight. that game is still going on. it's very early in the third quarter. after falling behind 21-7 midway through the second quarter, huskers reeled off two quick scores to notch things at 21. tommy armstrong has taken care of the ball so far. he's 8/10 for 115 yards. nebraska doing their damage on the ground as three different players have scored rushing touchdowns. huskers have outgained ucla in

earlier in the newscast we saw the hawkeyes having some fun at disneyland while that's the fun part, iowa has said all along it's a business trip. as mark woodley reports on the focus the hawkeyes will need to beat the pac-12 champs in stanford. and of course when you think about stanford, the first name that comes to mind is christian mccaffery,the a-p player of the year, and a guy who can get it done both running and catching the football. it's also a stanford squad that's big and fast defensively and the hawkeyes know they're in for a challenge if they want to win in pasadena for the first time in more than 40 years. "they're an athletic group just like every other team and they're the pac 12 champions, so they're definitely played good football and we're excited to go against them," said tevaun smith. "they've got a lot of good players on defense and offensively they're a good team as well. they're well coached, they've got a lot of good players, and we know in order to win the game we've got to play our best football," said c.j. beathard.
