today in holstein, iowa. the presidential candidate is speaking at the leonard limousin and angus farm. hear from the sen., tonight on news 4. candidate ted cruz plans to hit the road in iowa starting on monday. he's holding a bus tour of 36 counties in six days. on tuesday, january 5th he's making stops in cherokee and sioux. the next day he'll be in lyon, osceola, dickinson, emmet, palo alto and clay. and, on thursday, january 7th he'll be in buena vista, pocahontas, humboldt and kossuth counties. last night, u.s. senator marco rubio made a stop in sioux city. ktiv's tommie clark attended his town hall meeting and shows us his approach to the presidential campaign.

winter made it's return to a part of the country some people might not associate with snow....southe rn california. the higher elevations in mt. laguna saw about two inches of snow stick to the ground yesterday. temperatures were cold enough for the snow to stick around and give children a chance to go sledding. laguna is about six thousand feet above sea level so it can snow heavily on the mountain during the winter months. it's also a popular skiing location for people in the area. people in garland texas are beginning the clean up process in hopes of returning to normalcy after devastating tornados blew through north texas last weekend. officials are saying more than 200 hundred homes were left uninhabitable by the e-f-4 tornado, which packed winds in

miles per hour, hit garland. more than 700 homes were damaged in all. at least eight other tornados touched down in the dallas, texas area last saturday. the storm claimed eight lives in garland --- the youngest victim just one-year-old. at least three others were killed in other area cities. winter f foding has caused havav throughout parts of the midwest and southeast. the high waters have forced people to leave their homes, wiped out roads and claimed lives. nbc's dan scheneman has more from missiouri.

okoboji skycam... december is national drunk and drugged driving awareness month. it's the time of year when many people celebrate the holidays together. but, that means more people are behind the wheel impaired. one group is cracking down to prevent deadly situations. ktiv's tiffany lane went along for a ride.

much to drink and make that decision to get behind the wheel. and that's when we're out in force during the holidays." there's one unit with the police department that specializes in recognizing drunk and drugged driving. the alcohol safety action program, also known as the asap unit, is made up of a supervisor and three officers. "the benefits of having the asap unit is that anytime an officer on patrol stops a driver they think might be impaired, rather than tie that officer up for three officers to process that drunk driver, the members of my unit will take over that case and go through the drunk driving process and we're able to put that patrol officer back on general patrol." asap supervisor sergeant steve ten napel says members of the unit also become good witnesses and experts in drunk driving prosecution. su "since 2014, there have b bn 10 traffic fatalities in sioux city. a third of those were caused by impaired drivers." mercy medical center's reality education alcohol program or reap partners with the asap unit to prevent those

talking about the pop tab program. this is something that i think not a lot of people think about because everyone, not everyone, but a lot of people drink soda and they either chuck it out in the recycling bin or take it to the recycling center withoho thinking of taking the pop tab off. a lot of people don't think about it. a lot of people don't actually realize that we do still collect pop tabs at the ronald mcdonald house and that money does come back to help the house and the families there. it's something that a lot of people remember us doing but don't know still currently happens. we have a lot of people that come to the house and say, do you still collect

these. 50 schools you say probably collect these tabs to benefit the ronald mcdonald house. yes, in the siouxland area we have about 50 schools that collect from the students that bring them all in. that's fantastic and wonderful but a loloof people do it at their house as well and their business and we're more than happy to provide you with a pop tab house or collection unit to put those in and bring back to the house. how do you get the money from the pop tabs? we turn all of the pop tabs into mcdonalds and they turn it into a recycler who then sends the money back to us. it's thousands of pounds that we can collect within a year and all of that money comes back. we've
