good evening, thanks for joining us, i'm robert lowe we begin tonight over seas. the manhunt is on in israel for an israeli arab wanted for yesterday's shooting attack in tel aviv that killed two people and wounded several others.. n-b-c's keir simmons has late details.

(sot: unidentified witness) "we saw people get out of their cars and run towards the action. some of them grabbed their guns." in new surveilance footage today... people dive for cover... ... a child plays until someone scrambles to pull the youngster to safety. while footage on israeli media appears to show the killer coolly walking down the street... ... pretending to shop in a grocery store... .. then firing more than 15 rounds. the family home of the suspect - an arab israeli - was raided today... ... his brother arrested... his own dad alerted police... ... i am deeply sorry he says... his son was mentally unstable he claims... or was he inspired by isis... a computer was seized from the home. (sot: isaac hertzog/ israeli opposition party leader) "it requires a deep search as to the possibility that it may be isil." for the victims... a candle light vigil... one group had been celebrating a birthday... ... until the lives of alon bakal, 26, and shimon ruimi, 30, were ended in cold blood. (simmons on camera 1:27 - 1:46) tomorrow funerals will be held for the two men murdered... while tonight there is no sign of their killer... and no clear motive has been established. israeli police are looking at intelligence while special forces are helping the manhunt... the fear is that he may attack again.

staying overseas, one day after fire engulfed a high-rise luxury hotel in dubai on new year's eve, the building was still sending up smoke. and authorities said they don't know the cause yet. a look inside the lobby showed extensive damage. the fire injured at least 14 people, none seriously. the building is one of dubai's most upscale hotels and residences. thousands of dutch revelers braved cold

the palmetto state voted to remove the flag from the state capitol for the first time in 54 years. racial tensions were not confined to charleston with black lives matter rallies happening in cities across the country protesters were outraged by the police killings of unarmed black men like freddie gray, jamar clark and walter scott. june saw two historic decisions from the supreme court of the united states. in a 6-3 split the court saved the affordable care act. a divided court also ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide. (nats) while many cheered the 5-4 ruling some sharply disagreed. in a small kentucky town a clerk of the court sat behind bars for preventing her office from issuing marriage licenses. kim davis made headlines again when she publicly announced she'd had a private meeting with pope francis during his visit to the united states. the holy father made stops in philadelphia, new york, and washington d-c making history as the first pope to address congress. (pope francis): "god bless america." a report from congress accused japanese auto parts manufacturer takata of putting profits ahead of safety. takata disputed the report's conclusion saying it had a number of "inaccuracies" but the company's faulty airbags resulted in a huge recall affecting 34 million cars. and new england rocked the sports world in january when the patriots were accused using under-inflated balls to win a playoff game (tom brady/quarterback)

missouri governor jay nixon toured flood- ravaged areas today as the record high water levels start to recede. people could finally return to their homes to survey the damage and start the clean-up process. officials say areas along the meramec river and south of saint louis appear to be hit the hardest after the meramec swelled over 35 feet. the devastating floodwaters destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses and displaced thousands of people. at least 15 people died in the saint louis county area. crews searching for a young boy with autism north of philadelphia find his body in a canal. jayliel vega batista's disappearance on new year's eve set off an intense search in allentown, pennsylvania. the five-year-old had run out of a home shortly before midnight without shoes or a coat. crews searched around the clock -- combing woods, a railyard, industrial buildings, homes, the lehigh river, and canals. that's where fire department

discovered his body this evening -- after a resident spotted something shiny in the water, and found what's believed to be the boy's tablet. soldiers say goodbye to a woman who was the last to hug them when they deployed from fort hood- and the first to embrace them when they returned. crowds came to a visitation for elizabeth laird today.. hugging outside a funeral home in texas. a gesture the so-called "hug lady" would have no doubt appreciated. laird touched countless lives with her touch over the years at fort hood. giving soldiers comfort as they left- sometimes scared- for unknown adventures. and greeting them when they came home- sometimes battle- scarred. the new year means nebraska's minimum wage is increasing by a dollar to nine dollars an hour. it's up from $8 an hour in 2015 and 7 dollars and 25 cents before that. the increase is the final phase of a two-step minimum wage hike approved by voters in 2014. nebraska's last minimum wage increase before that

staying in nebraska, today, the ponca state park held a unique competition that's nationally recognized-- a fruit cake fling. residents from the tri- state area each threw a fruit cake to see who could chuck it the farthest. ktiv's tommie clark was there and shows us why the event was much more than a competition..

nervous because i've never done this before, but it was really fun," said 10- year-old, keira sexton. "it's a cool experience and you can just hike and it's fun with your family," said ian sexton. "it's cold so you get to bundle up with your family and have a nice time," said 15-year-old, quin sexton.
