a wanted suspect is in critical condition, tonight, after he shot himself while being apprehended by federal and tribal officials on the santee sioux indian reservation. (matt) an fbi spokesperson says the male suspect was armed at the time. he refused to surrender peacefully, and allegedly shot himself. the fbi didn't identify the in omaha, nebraska, told ktiv, this afternoon, that a man wanted by police was involved in an incident on the santee sioux reservation, today. 25-year-old david hoffman has been on the run, in northeast nebraska, since tuesday afternoon. that's when he stole a niobrara, nebraska police officer's weapon as the officer tried to arrest him for burglary and theft. he took off on foot. the nebraska state patrol and other agencies joined the search for hoffman as niobrara schools a a some businesses were locked down. officers searched cabins and other buildings at niobrara state park, but there was no sign of hoffman. niobrara state park reopened this morning.

seen... until this afternoon on the santee sioux reservation. an fbi spokesperson has promised additional details will be released on the reservation shooting. but, she didn't say when those details would be released. an teen faces arson charges after a fire that damaged a home in spencer, iowa yesterday. eighteen-year-old bianca watkins arson. the home lococed at 612 3rd ave. west ended up with major fire damage to the kitchen and dining area. watkins also faces two counts of animal abuse. former iowa congressman tom latham is battling cancer. the 10-term congressman, who represented northwest iowa, and north-central iowa, announced the news on his facebook k ge, today.y. latham says doctors have diagnosed him with a form of lymphoma. the republican says he, and his family, are "working with a great team of doctors, and have a treatment plan in place." latham says he confident he can

(sheila) the fog has settled in over siouxland, again. chief meteorologis t ron demers joins us with the first look at our forecast. a mix of precipitation made its way across siouxland today with a dusting of accumulation for some of us. as the heavier precipitation lifted to the north, drizzle and fog took over and that will continue into tonight. our lows will be close to that ever- important 32 degree mark tonight so just be careful of the possibility of some slick conditions by thursday morning. by later on thursday, our next surge of moisture comes our way and this will give us the chance of some light snow developing from thursday afternoon into thursday night and continuing into friday as well. interchange to north of pierce street exit. the sign work begins 9 a-m and will go until 3 p-m, weather permitting. the iowa dot wants to rerend drivers to drive with caution and be prepared for traffic backups. the 2016 session of the nebraska legislature is underway in lincoln. lawmakers kicked off the 60-day session this morning with an expected focus on property taxes, prisons and a state budget shortfall. goveveor pete ricketts hasas identified property tax reduction and prison reforms as his top priorities this year. lawmakers are also expected to consider a comprehensive roads bill to speed up some projects, k-12 education funding and a new medicaid proposal to help cover thousands of uninsured nebraskans. following a mission to help people impacted by historic flooding in missouri, some iowa national guard troops are now back home. about 45 guard members were in high ridge, missouri to help flood victims.

a new, kid-friendly siouxland organization that has been in the works for several years is finally coming together. the launchpad children's museum is just wrapping up construction of its new facility in downtown sioux city. workers are still installing exhibits like the "water table," where kids can learn how to another attraction, called the "construction zone," is an exhibit where kids can learn to use the six simple machines. "everything in here is hands on. we are not a museum in the traditional sense," director, bob fitch. "everything the kids get to touch and feel cranks and move the blocks and they're in charge of everything. it gives them a

iowa, they often send surrogates, or even family members. nats of guns shot republican presidential candidate mike huckabee's wife, janet, stopped by sioux city's "yards shooting range" during a campaign stop this morning. the meet and greet was part of the huckabees' 150-stops around iowa to lead up to the iowa caucuses on february 1st. huckabee was able to speak with supporters, and then shoot in the range. it comes just a day after president obama's announcement that he'll use executive orders to tighten gun laws. mrs. huckabee agreed that background checks are important, so they can focus on americans with mental health issues. but, she argued the president's action only hurts current gun owners. "to do what he did, i don't think it is going to have a bearing on the previous shootings, obviously," huckabee said. "i don't think it is going to help those who are going to break the law anyway.it just makes it harder for those who are already law abiding citizens."

hoping things turn around -- and soon. someone stole his one-of-a kind bike which was his only form of transportation. a month ago from today someone stole a rare motorized-bike from brett garbes's front porch. brett has been battling stomach cancer and has a clogged artery, so he struggles walking far distances. he said he even has a hard time walking up the stairs to his home and can't ride a normal bike. he doesn't have the money to buy a car right now. and without his motorized-bike, he's had to rely on friends and the bus to get around. "it really helped..... helped me get around,"brett garbes, bike owner, said. "he uh pretty much used that for every bit of transportation," gerald griffith, brett's son said.
