while it wasn't the most we've ever gotten, the snow we did get inches fell in spencer, iowa making their roads very slick. here in sioux city, we got 4 point one inches of snow. the snow started last night and continued into today good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm robert lowe in for matt breen and sheila while most of the snowfall is

let's toss it over to chief meteorologist ron demers to see what we can expect this weekend. the majority of communities in siouxland did end up seeing the 2-4 inches of snow that was expected and here in sioux city our official total is 3.6 inches. the light snow will move off to the east tonight and colder air is already filtering in behind this system. expect temps to hover only around 10 degrees on saturda and with a strong northwest wind

as the snow starts to slow down, the streets need to be cleaned up. the snow may have moved out of siouxland, but clean up efforts continue tonight. the problem is the side streets and neighborhood roads remain snow packed. but snow plows are working all day to get that heavy snow off the roads. the temperatures will be dropping so be sure to allow yourself extra time if you're going to be driving tonight. things weren't much different in south dakota where roads were slick for drivers as about three inches of snow fell. with the temperatures dropping into the single digits.... and below zero in some places... there's a chance your pipes could freeze.

happening... let the hot and cold faucets drip overnight. open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to pipes under sinks. disconnect garden hoses and, if practical, use an indoor valve to shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets. and, maintain adequate heat inside your home if you are going away for an extended period of time. frigid temperatures forecasted for this weekend might make for a few days spent indoors. but, not everyone will have a warm roof over their head. that's where places like the gospel mission come in. among other services, they offer a place for those needing to escape bitter conditions. and if you come across someone that may appear to need a quick haven, the mission suggests this. "i would say to them to approach them and engage them in a conversation to find out rather or not they know about the gospel mission," said dayle webbs. "they are quite a few people that know about the gospel missssn but don't want to come because of the structure we have in place."

harsh, they stay open longer to allow more people access. the warming shelter at 9th and nebraska is already at capacity. the 77 bed-facility provides a temporary spot for the homeless and usually doesn't turn people away. this winter they have been busy and, one board members tells news4 they plan to bring in more beds in the near future to keep up with the need. switching gears here... sioux city police say approximately 165 vehicles have been reported stolen from august of 20- 15 to january of 20-16. these numbers do not include cars reported by woodbury county sheriff's office and south sioux city police. sioux city police say approximately 20 of the stolen vehicles originated outside the sioux city police jurisdiction. authorities say in a majoritiy of the cases, the keys have been left inside the vehicle or it was left running unattended. police say if you leave your car running, your yourself may g g a ticket.

sanders had three events scheduled across iowa today.. where he also argued he than clinton in pothetical match-ups against leading republican candidates. republican presidential candidate donald trump is pledging to get rid of gun free zones. at a rally last night trump called for the elimination of gun free zones in schools and u.s. military bases. he vowed to sign an order on his first day as president to make sure it happens. base with some of the best soldiers we have, sitting there relaxing, watching television, no gun. guy walks in, kills all of them. ok, that ends immediately." trump also said that if law abiding citizens were allowed to carry guns... incidents like the shooting in san bernardino could have been prevented. mexican authorities said today

sum payment or spread the jackpot out over 30 years right now, if a winner took the "lump sum payment" he'd take home about half a billion dollars. you may have heard of planet fitness on nbc's biggest loser. and now the gym is opening its doors to siouxlanders. the planet fitness on gordon drive in sioux city opened this afternoon. the facility offers over 90 cardio machines, free training and full circuits of strength machines. the health club's manager says his journey started when he was nearing 300-pounds and decided he needed to start going to the gym. he says planet fitness made him feel like he wasn't being judged and at home. "i walked in and everybody was helpful. i felt like i was wanted instead of i'm just here doing whatever. people came up to me to offer me help. that's what we're all about-- the judgement free zone. we welcome all types," said sioux city planet fitness manager, hank benton. the gym also offers tanning,

and special memberships. every year entrepreneur s from around siouxland compete to have their voice heard. it's called the innovation market contest and this morning the sioux city growth organizaiton announced the 2016 contest details. they're in search of a new business idea to grow and connect to other entrepreneurs. it'll be held february 23rd at the ho-chunk centre in sioux city. along with the contest, sioux city's economic development department also made an announcement about their "dreamamig, grow here" contest. the statewide business grant contest helps iowans fulfill their dreams of self-employment or expansion of their business. that's it for news and weather but our sportsfource extra crew is just getting started. they're bringing you games from all over siouxland.

along with mark freund, i'm brad pautsch. the weather shut down a lot of the basketball action, but we still have highlights of nine games. that includes ten teams playing at day two of the cnos classic. we'll see ranked teams from pierce, south sioux city, west and unity christian. we'll start at the tyson events center. the girls from unity christian in orange city are the defending class 2a state

ranked number-1 all season at 9 and 0. unity was taking on west, who's 14th in class 5a -- and coming off of a loss to south sioux on tuesday. it was a matchup of ranked teams - but unity really flexed their muscle down at the tyson. knights on the break in the first - chanda zomermaand gives it up for alyssa fedders - who finishes the tough layup. the hero for unity in this one - like most nights - was anna kiel - a game- high 27 points - also went over one- thousand points for her career - knights led 13-to-4 after a quarter. second quarter - west's turn now - carly knutson-kobold - with the strong drive - gets the bucket. unity had some turnovers in this one - but jose blankespoor - there for the rebound and the putback - unity wins it, 58-30. the third-ranked pierce boys leading woodbury central 27-20 at the half. third quarter - clay baldwin drives and kicks it out to anthony gallagher - gallagher drills the three - woodbury central hanging around, still down just 7. but back comes pierce - braydan

board and puts it back to put the jays back up 9. pierce ends the third with a bang - brady starkel - working on the wildcats - and drops a triple at the horn - starkel led the jays with 17 points. woodbury central trying to hang around - baldwin gets the steal and the lay-in - baldwin had 14. but pierce makes their free throws - and tops woodbury central by 10, 58-48. the 7th-ranked south sioux city girls taking on sioux city east. first quarter - augusta thramer at the top of the key - great look inside to carissa powell for the easy two. south sioux got out to a 17-nothing lead - kori fischer gets an open look in the paint and converts - lady cardinals running away with it. east keeps fighting - rylie zyzda - driving the lane and getting the roll - but the black raiders had a tough go of it. thramer answers on the drive - south sioux city handles their business - 62-

the bishop heelan boys were ranked seventh in the last class 3a poll of 2015. the crusaders have won three straight since losing to east. heelan taking on unity christian -- who's also won three in a row. heelan took charge of this one early. a lot of that had to do with deandre burnside - the senior can really play - he went for 29 points tonight - finishing at the rim. unity christian - looking inside later in the first quarter - logan schiebout the beneficiary - he converts underneath - knights down just three. but then it was all heelan - burnside kicks out to jack boever - he cans the triple - crusaders take a 23-9 lead in the second quarter. bishop heelan built that lead to 20 by the half - kyrese peck spins and finishes - heelan - no trouble with unity - taking it, 76-43. the final game of the day at the tyson had the west guys taking on south sioux. 1st quarter - wolverines on the board first - avery brun from the top of the key - knocks down

early lead. back comes south sioux city - the feed inside to brad hartnett - he muscles it up for the bucket - but west had a 15-12 lead after one. second quarter - more from the cardinals - tanner christensen drives baseline - christensen had 16 points in the first three quarters. south sioux keeps bruising inside - off the turnover - it's kalvin warner - 36-22 cardinals at the half - south sioux goes on to the win, 60-45. over to mapleton -- the 8 and 1 rams hosting kingsley-pierson in the boys game. early on, the rams start out strong as connor beeck drives and he gets the basket and the foul to give mv-ao a two point lead. he had 13. later, maple valley-anthon oto continues to roll, juan delagarza gets the nice bounce pass and hits the jumper. he also had 13 points. kingsley-pierson answers back though, when nathan keck drives and puts up the shot, he gets the friendly roll to cut the
