colfax county. deputy dan coughlin from fremont was going east on highway 30 when his car hit a deer carcass near rogers. that's two hours southwest of sioux city his vehicle crossed the center line and hit another vehicle. the deputy had just gotten off work. from fire to ice. there is now ten to 12- inches of ice on the damaged building in omaha's old market district. the crews worked in below freezing temperatures to fight the fire on saturday. the building may be on the verge of collapsing.. and the ice could do more damage as the temperature changes. police say the student accused of bringing a gun to north middle school in sioux city is a sixth grade boy. the student now faces a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. ktiv's tiffany lane has the update.

gausman. police say the call came from parents of a friend, who the 12 year old boy allegedly showed the handgun to. dr. gausman said the student was searched when he arrived on school property and that's when they found the gun and it was not loaded. "we don't believe in the initial conversations that we had that there was the intent to bring a weapon to school to do harm to that student, to another student, to a staff member, anything like that," said dr. gausman. "again, that doesn't make it any less serious to us." school officials contacted police when they received the information. su "crime prevention officer chad sheehan calls the police department's relationship with the school district, a "good working relationship and used monday's incident as an example." "when the information was obtained, the school district did what needed to be done and took the information immediately to law enforcement," said chad sheehan, crime prevention officer with the sioux city police department. "they didn't sit on any information. they acted very quickly." dr. gausman said an automated phone call was sent to parents of students about the incident around 6 p.m. "we needed to go through all of the steps necessary to make certain that our students and staff members are safe," said dr. gausman. a siouxland community may be getting a camp to help kids with behavioral issues. o'brien county held a public meeting yesterday, led by the executive director of seasons for behavioral health. ktiv's tommie clark attended

purchase property in sutherland, iowa for the facility. and now, o'brien county supervisors are deciding if they want the camp in their county. "i think it's a good thing for the children and i understand the children she's talking about doing. the biggest thing is financial wise, we don't want to all of a sudden have this come back at us," said county supervisor, tom farnsworth. "this is where the therapeutic camp would be located with over 150 acres of land." the land seasons wants used to be mauer manufacturing and it's been vacant for years, but neighbors are still concerned with their own property value if the camp gets put in. "makes us a little nervous, like i say i'm not against what they do i just wish it was in a different location. if it goes through there won't be any hard feelings or anything. i've met with kim and we'll be able to work together and try to be neighborly," said neighbor, mark shriver. the camp would include a rock climbing wall, lake activities and an intensive skill development program for kids in need. a need seasons wants the county to allow them to take care of by approving the grant to build the facility. "we've heard loud and clear from our communities. we've heard loud and clear from our families and our kiddos that they want to have this happen so regardless if it doesn't happen here, which of course we would be dissapointed and sad, it will be happening we will continue to move forward with it because it's the right

attorney general loretta lynch will visit a boston jail today to discuss the obama administration's work on reforming the criminal justice system. lynch's visit to the suffolk county house of correction comes a day after the president's final state of the union address. during the visit, the attorney general will meet with local leaders of a couple of programs that aim to prepare people for their return to society. later in the day, lynch will visit harvard law school where she will deliver remarks on criminal justice and re-entry services. hillary clinton's campaign stance on behalf of gun reform was boosted as she was endorsed by the brady campaign to prevent gun violence. and clinton used the event at iowa state university to ramp up her criticism of democratic rival bernie sanders. clinton tried to turn the tables on senator sanders' claim that he battles special interests.. by arguing he has backed the gun lobby in multiple votes.

"we don't believe in the initial conversations that we had that there was the intent to bring a weapon to school to do harm to that student, to another student, to a staff member, anything like that," said dr. gausman. "again, that doesn't make it any less serious to us." school officials contacted police when they received the information. su "crime prevention officer chad sheehan calls the police department's relationship with the school district, a "good working relationship and used monday's incident as an example." "when the information was obtained, the school district did what needed to be done and took the information immediately to law enforcement," said chad sheehan, crime prevention officer with the sioux city police department. "they didn't sit on any information. they acted very quickly." dr. gausman said an automated phone call was sent to parents of students about the incident around 6 p.m. "we needed to go through all of the steps necessary to make certain that our students and staff members are safe," said dr. gausman. "we needed to get things moving in the proper direction." he said said the school district has a lot of actions they need to take and there are a number of steps the school district must go through with the student. they will have hearings with the student, many won't happen in public.

resolutions to lose weight or to be healthier. and, a lot of them get hung up on snacking. should they snack. or, not snack and what should they choose? it's the number one question i get in emails is about snacking. i'm a big fan of snacking on. not all of the can use the same eating plan. i am definately a three meal, two snack kind of girl. some, are 6 meals. it's important to plan your snacks like you would your meals. so, alot of time people get in trouble because they don't plan their snacks and then they get hungry and head to the vending machine. sheila: then they eat everything they can get ahold of. whitney: yes, the chips and candy to satifsy their hunger and cravings. you need to plan your snacks like your meals. i actually eat the same snacks every day. so, it's something you don't have to be overcreative for and whatever fits in with your lifesytle. let's start with liquid calories. a lot of people hit the vending and they start drinking. but, it's a lot of empty calories. you don't get a lot of nutricial value with the drinks. so, all the calories go right to your waistline. so, look for things that are low calorie or calorie free. but, always of course trying to drink more water. all of us could always use more water so try and get more water in your day helps you make you full. sheila: how much water? whitney: i would say at least 8 glasses a day. but, i usually drink double that. i drink a lot of water during the day. but, most people could afford to drink more. so, when you're planning your snacks to eat throughout the

kids with behavioral issues. officials in o'brien county are considering a plan for a new kids camp in sutherland. ktiv's tommie clark has the details.

for behavioral health executive director, kim scorza. as an extension of autumn's center, they're now working to create a therapeutic camp for children. they're seeking a more than half-a- million-dollar grant to purchase property in sutherland, iowa for the facility. and now, o'brien county supervisors are deciding if they want the camp in their county. "i think it's a good thing for the children and i understand the children she's talking about doing. the biggest thing is financial wise, we don't want to all of a sudden have this come back at us," said county supervisor, tom farnsworth. "this is where the therapeutic camp would be located with over 150 acres of land." the land seasons wants used to be mauer manufacturing and it's been vacant for years, but neighbors are still concerned with their own property value if the camp gets put in. "makes us a little nervous, like i say i'm not against what they do i just wish it was in a different location. if it goes through there won't be any hard feelings or anything. i've met with kim and we'll be able to work together and try to be neighborly,"

the camp would include a rock climbing wall, lake activities and an intensive skill development program for kids in need. a need seasons wants the county to allow them to take care of by approving the grant to build the facility.
