started contacting her friends before calling sioux city police. "sunday i hadn't heard from shaniqua, which was odd," said kaitlyn nguyen, hayes' coworker and friend. "so sunday night at work i continued to try and contact her, didn't hear anything back from her and then in the morning i went to her second job, went to her house trying to find her." "when you have no contact and everybody you've talked to has not seen her, i mean you just automatically as a human being think the worst. and when you say you found her, it's just a relief," said dominic hayes, shaniqwa's cousin. woodbury county deputies found hayes, late tuesday afternoon. authorities say hayes could only blink her eyes when they found her. deputies spotted her car on private land, in moville, about 40 minutes after getting a call from dispatch. "we looked for footprints, we didn't see any, just the snow was completely undisturbed around all three doors beside the drivers side of and the keys were still there," said deputy david hansen of the woodbury county sheriff's office. "her cell phone was still there. her wallet was still there." hayes' family and friends said they contacted

when they weren't able to get a hold of her since sunday afternoon. sioio city police say they encouraged them to contact the dakota county sheriff's office since that was where hayes was last seen. a dakota county lieutenant was able to ping hayes' cell phone, and give woodbury county deputies the location, which was near moville. (tiffany) she is at mercy medical center, in sioux city. family members say she's still not able to talk, but that they y e hoping for a speedy r rovery. matt and sheila? after an incident at north middle where a student brought an unloaded gun, sioux city police shared tips for gun safety. the police department is currently giving away free gun locks to people at the station headquarters. they are cable-type locks for families who don't have ways to secure their firearms from their children. "if they wanana lock, we're giving maximum of two per household," said chad sheehan, crime prevention officer with the sioux city

leaders of different faiths from all around siouxland came together this morning to package hundreds of sacks of food to feed the hungry. ktiv's tommie clark attended the event. tommie, what was the gathering all about? matt and sheila, at a time when tensions are high toward the islamic faith, siouxlandndeligious leaders decided to come together to promote tolerance and acceptance. today, they went to the food bank of siouxland to not only exchange dialogue, but to help feed the hungry. rabbi guy greene of beth shalom congregation reached out to religious leaders around the community in an effort to bring them together for one common purpose. that purpose is to support the islamic faith throughout the negative dialogue

january is national big brothers and big sisters month, and our local branch is in desperate need of mentors. big brothers and big sisters is a program aimed at giving kids an adult- figure in their lives. the mentors hang out, talk and do many fun activities with their mentees. currently in siouxland--the re are 162 matches. but, there are still 47 kids who need mentors---44 of them being boys. the program just matched one mentee who waited for two years until they found the perfect match. ktiv's michelle schoening has the journey of one little who is now a big mentoring his own little.

the girls from unity christian have been perfect over the last two seasons. the knights finished undefeated last year -- winning the class 2a state championship. they're 12-and-0 this season, and are eyeing a title repeat. ktiv's mark freund caught up with this week's sportsfource champions. they say it's out with the old - and in with the new. "we've grown throughout the years together," said unity senior forward anna kiel. but what if the new - isn't really all that new? christian knights, mark freund, ktiv sportsfource. unity christian visits fifth-ranked western christian on saturday. the hawkeye basketball team snapped a nine-game losing streak to michigan state last month. tomorrow, iowa will try to win on michigan state's home floor for the first time in 23 years. iowa is 3 and 0 in the big ten, including that 83-70 win over the spartans on december 29th. another win over michigan state would get them to 4-0 in conference play for the first time since 1999. the spartans are 8-0 at home this season, winning by an average of 26 points. michigan state will also have denzel valentine back -- he missed the first meeting with an injury and is averaging nearly 18 points per game. "denzel's the type of player that just makes everyone around him better," said iowa senior mike gesell. former nebraska and nfl running back lawrence phillips has been found dead in his prison cell, and officials suspect suicide. guards found the 40-year- old in his cell shortly after midnight. he had been in isolation for nearly three years after he was suspected of killing his cellmate. he was convicted of choking his girlfriend and driving his car into three teens in 2005. phillips ran for over sophomore at nebraska -- helping the huskers win national titles in '94 and '95. phillips played for the rams, dolphins and 49'ers in the nfl.
