"when we're meeting with economic development prospects, it's important for them to be able to get people in and out of a community," said sloniker. "when you want to compete in a global market, you have to have access to the national transportation system." and with the new addition, airport leaders say it's important to show the city's appreciation for the additional service to the area. "we as siouxland residents really need to utilize this service and fill the seats to ensure the continued service," said darrell jesse, of the sioux gateway airport board of trustees. "and quite frankly it's similar to what we've done in chicago the last four years. i think american's experienced very good load factors." airport director mike collett says the current flights to chicago o'hare are about 80 percent full and says he expects flights to dallas to draw in large numbers as well.>> there will be one flight to dallas a day starting on may 5th. tickets start going on sale

with the dallas addition, there will be 20 flights from sioux gateway a week. american currently flies to o'hare twice a day six days a week. and one flight on the seventh day. there will be one flight a day to dallas. as of now the plan is for the flight to leave dallas for sioux city at 12:20 p-m. the flight would leave sioux city for dallas at 3:12 p-m. sioux gateway used to have flights going west to denver. frontier airlines pulled out of siouxland back in october of 2014 after less than 5 months. and, back in 2008, frontier filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and stopped service after just 7 months. former president bill clinton is campaigning for hillary clinton to tell voters why his wife is the most qualified for president. today, he stopped at morningside college in sioux city to talk to nearly 450 students and community members. bill clinton began campaigning for her last

now he's making his rounds in iowa. bill clinton called hillary clinton the best changemaker he's ever met. "the reason republicans have been so hard on her for over a year now is they know that too," said former president bill clinton. "they've basically been screaming at all of us democrats saying please nominate somebody else. we don't want to run against her." bill clinton has said he is not surprised bernie sanders is coming close in the polls for the democratic nomination. he attributes that to republican's attacks on his wife. after sioux city, clinton headed to marshalltown . republican presidential candidate marco rubio will be in siouxland tomorrow. the florida senator is slated to speak at dort college. the event begins at 6 p.m. republican presidential candidate chris christie will be in siouxland this weekend. the new jersey gov. is hosting a town hall event a buffalo alice's in sioux city on sunday. doors open at 3:30 p.m. it's another cold january day here in siouxland.

mother is competent to stand trial. after a psychiatric health evaluation, the judge decided jonathan neunaber is mentally capable to stand trial for first- degree murder. neunaber is accused of killing his mother, 80- year old esther neunaber near akron, iowa in july of 2014. her body was found along with the body of her husband, donald neunaber. investigators say esther was beaten to death and donald died of natural causes. no trial date has been set yet. a norfolk, nebraska man's second attempt to appeal his murder conviction has been shot down. the nebraska supreme court today upheld the second degree murder conviction of 26-year old de'aris trice. trice was first convicted in

stabbing death of 27- year-old timothy warren at a norfolk house party in december of 2010. but the state supreme court ordered a new trial, because of problems with jury instructions. trice was again found guilty and received a sentence of 40 years to life. in his latest appeal, trice argued the court was wrong to allow transcripts of statements from some witnesses into evidence. he also said his sentence is excessive. the high court found no evidence the trial court acted incorrectly. a northwest iowa woman accused of crashing her car into another vehicle on purpose pleaded not guilty. melissa ebert of cherokee, iowa faces attempted murder for a head-on collision in le mars, iowa back in september. three people ended up with serious injuries. the driver of a school bus involved in a crash in sac county has been charged with failure to yield. today, authorities in sac county say debra dettman was driving an east sac

afternoon when they were hit by a truck on highway 20. two students were treated for minor injures. the driver of the truck and a passenger went to the sac city hospital. their conditions weren't available. a rollover crash killed a siouxland teenager this morning. it happened this morning around 7:30 on e54 outside of moorhead. the driver who was 15- years-old said she lost control on black ice and went into the ditch. two passengers weren't wearing seat belts and were thrown from the vehicle. 16-year-old shelby montage was pronounced dead at the scene. the monona county sheriff's office says shelby attended school at west harrison. the driver and a 12-year- old passenger went to burgess hospital in onawa for treatment. authorities are still investigating the accident. transforming highway 20 from two to four lanes has been in the works for more than 50 years. and after the gas tax increase, the expansion is now on cruise control. ktiv's tommie clark attended a u-s 20 meeting today. and tommie, what should we

well sheila, we're in the homestretch. today the highway 20 association discussed all the construction updates on slate for this year. truck passing by. the work between moville and correctionvil le will continue moving eastward. next month the holstein to galva portion of the project will start. towards late summer, the d-o-t will award the last u-s 20 construction contract from galva over to the early area. the other thing drivers can expect, other than a lot of construction this year, is a detour. starting in late march and going till november, a detour will take traffic to old 20 in correctionvil le for a portion of the drive. "it's exciting i mean we've been working on it for a lot of years. we've seen a lot of progress east of us, but to see all the work going on here in our backyard is exciting," said iowa department of transportation district 3 transportation planner, dakin schultz. all of that highway work from correctionvil le over to early was added to the to-do list because of the revenue added from the fuel tax increase. their target completion date for the northwest iowa portion of

today, the wall st. journal reports there's a bird flu case in indiana. it's the first case in six- months following last year's severe outbreak that hit hard the nations' egg and turkey industires including here in iowa. today's discovery sparks new concerns despite ramped up efforts to rid the disease. monster trucks are taking over the tyson events center this weekend. ktiv's sarah te slaa got a lesson on the ins and outs of these monster machines.

the trucks are fired up and ready to go. things are going to get loud at the tyson this weekend. bigfoot will be there... the original monster truck that started it all 41 years ago. "it's the truck i grew up on. the truck i watched on tv as a kid," says says darron schnell, bigfoot's driver. bigfoot's driver is from south dakota and is ready to show the crowd what his truck is made out of. "i want to win. i'm either going to win or this truck is going to be in pieces. it's going to be one of the two," says schnell. at the tyson, there are five monster trucks showing off their muscles in give competitions. from racing and freestyle to donuts and wheelies. "these trucks can go almost 100 miles per hours, so it takes a lot of horse power to do that. that's why we use about 1,500 of it to get that much weight moving," says vinny venom, snakebite's driver. a monster truck typically weighs about 10,000 pounds. this one is a little bit more my size. nats each truck costs about a quarter of a million dollars. the tires alone are 6- grand each. but the rivalry between

sports fource is "on the road" in hull, iowa. ktiv's mark freund has an update. western christian is used to being a state championship contender. the wolfpack won three straight titles from 2012 to 2014. cherokee doesn't have that kind of experience. but as the 4th-ranked team in class 3a, a game against western will give the braves an idea of the quality of competition they could see if they make the state tournament. cherokee is a perfect 11- and-0, averaging almost 80 points per game - that's second in class 3a. cherokee likes to run - head coach heath hagberg says the braves aren't built to play big. that'll be the challenge for cherokee tonight - western girls can play inside and out - the wolfpack have two players measuring 6 foot, 2 - in kaira moss and ashtyn veerbeek. "we're not very big, not very tall," said hagberg. "we don't kind of slow it down, deliberate, big girl post-game. we try to make people play a little ugly, get up and down the

it was the hawkeyes largest margin of victory in east lansing in 33 years. iowa has now won ten straight big ten regular season games, going back to last season -- that hasn't happened since 1970. peter jok led iowa with 23 points and jarrod uthoff had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. all in all, it was a very satisfying night. "we got to go through michigan state if you want to win the big ten championship," said peter jok. "it just showed how good we are. beating them is going to give us more confidence moving forward so it was great." "just going back to toughness," said senior jarrod uthoff. "we knew we were the better team from the get- go and we wanted to come out and prove it and we did." iowa is back home on sunday at 3-30 to play michigan. the wolverines are 3-1 in the big ten, and 13-4 overall. the sioux city bandits have re-signed defensive back rahn franklin, jr. -- who is back for his fifth year. the buena vista graduate had 11 picks last season, which led the champions indoor football league. he has 41 career interceptions
