difference in the white house. tonight at 10, i'll have more on presidential hopefuls had to say and what siouxlanders thought of them. matt? iowa's u.s. senator charles grassley has set a record among the country's lawmakers. the 35-year veteran of the senate has gone the longest, out of any other senator, without missing a single vote. grassley has not missed a vote in 22 years, six months, and six days, according to roll call, a political watchdog website. during that time he's cast more than 75-hundred 'yeas' and 'nays.' grassley says even though you may disagree with his voting record, you can't say he's not at work. "i'm proud of it from this standpoint. we have a problem of our voters and our constituents and taxpayers being cynical about whether we work very hard in washington, d.c. and i'm not saying we do work hard enough, but one way of trying to tell people that we are on the

make sure that when we vote, i'm there voting," says grassley. when he's not in dc, grassley holds townhall meetings in each county of the state every year, like this one in storm lake a few months ago. political experts say, grassley's record proves his dedicatiti to the people of iowa. they had to pay a dollar to wear it. that dollar will go to the june e. nylen cancer center. it was a fundraiser organized by a 5th grade student. she arranged the philanthropic event as her uncle battled stomach cancer. he ultimately lost his battle with the disease. "i think he'd be really proud of me and say that you're really nice and i'm glad that you're thankful to have all these kids donate for people who have cancer like he did," said kellesse heard. kellllse says they raised d 6 dollars. ktiv's sam curtiss will have more on the inspiring story tonight at 10. south sioux city's longtime police chief is putting his badge down after 42 years of service. ktiv's tiffany lane shares the impact chief scot ford has had on those he's worked with. tiffany? matt, i spoke with members of the e uth sioux city police department and there were two words they used to describe

chief scot started as a rookie patrol officer in 1974 and was promoted to sergeant just five years later. he has been chief of police for 26 years...the longest in south sioux city history. and during that time, many say he has left a lasting impact. "he'll b bgreatly missed," "we're a small agency, a little under 30 men. so we're close knit and with him being our leader for as long as he was, he's going to be greatly missed." among chief ford's accomplishments, his colleagues say one of the biggest is the technology he broughghto the department. every person i spoke with talked about chief ford with respect and said he created a family atmosphere for them. tonight on ktiv news at 10, we'll hear from chief ford's colleagues and memorable moments they had while working for him. matt? a nebraska school held a session

event of an active shooter. the wausa and bloomfield school districts held an active shooter training session, that included a seminar and role play scenario. some of the teachers learned that what they were originally taught about active shooter safety was wrong. another teacher experienced what it's like to stare down the barrel as a victim. "i actually felt fear. i felt like 'oh here we go,' and i watched him point the gun at me. i knew the scenario was happening logically in my brain, but that adrenaline hit me and i just turned and went the other direction as fast as i could. i could actually hear the air from the pistol kind of coming by my ear a little bit." - kyle stevens, wausa high school english teacher the program is run by sioux city police officer chad sheehan, who has done these training sessions since the beginning 2014. he says one of the biggest misconceptions of shootings is that they can't happen in small towns...but they can happen anywhere. the last 47 workers at the

sioux city, have lost their jobs with the center's closing. in october, ceceurylink announced it would close the center which, at one time, had more than 400 workers. a centurylink spokesperson said the closure is part of the efforst to remain compettitive by reducing costs. work at the sioux city center will be transferred to a center in utah. nebraska authorities are investigating after a bald eagle was found shot in cedar county. officials with nebraska game and parks say someone found the dead eagle on sunday about three miles southeast of yankton. they say two rooster and two hen pheasants were found in a bag with the eagle that was thrown into a ditch. hunting season for rooster pheasants runs through january 31, but it's illegal to kill hen pheasants. the punishment for killing a bald eagle or even having its feathers comes at a hefty price. the person responsible faces a $250,000 fine and prison time. if you have information about the case, you're asked to call authorities. still to come... a pro baseball player surprised a

thursday but we'll bring back a chance of some light snow. this isn't going to be a big system, but we could see a dusting of snow that begins tonight in western siouxland and gives us all a chance of that snow during the day tomorrow. accumulations should stay under an inch and the snow will be out of here again by friday as conditions cool a bit. low 30s are going to be a possibility by the weekend with little more light snow possible sunday night. officials are reminding snowmobilers, ice anglers and the public that there is no such thing as safe ice. this announcement comes after four snowmobiles went through the ice recently at the iowa great lakes. the iowa department of natural resources said the recent cold snap put a thin layer of ice on some areas that had been previously open water which was then covered with snow making them hard to identify. still to come... a new mount rushmore is coming

and with your support, i'm going to deliver. i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. a pro baseball player surprised a group of students in norfolk with some baseball pointers. monday night at the gregory t. mefford baseball practice facility, about 40 kids gathered to learned the fundamentals of baseball. jake diekman, a pitcher for the texas rangers, surprised these aspiring baseball stars and gave them a few pointers on america's fafarite pastime. didiman, who is from the small town of wymore, nebraska wanted to set an example for the kids and show that that they can achieve their baseball dreams. "the passion in these kids eyes is huge, i had that when i was growing up and i just saw 40 kids have it, which is great. what they are doing here is unbelievable." diekman's passion for baseball is also shared

soltero, who is a former player, scout and coach holds these clinics to teach the kids to go beyond their potential. move over jefferson, washington, roosevelt and lincoln... there's a new mount rushmore coming to south dakota. to celebrate its 37 year history in the dakotadome, the university of south dakota's basketball program is holding an online vote e r fans to pick their favorite players. usd athletic officials whittled down the hundreds of players who've played for the 'yotes in the dome from 1979 to now. they've come up with the top 16 men and top 16 women to create the mt. rushmore of dakotadome basketball. "we want people to look back at their time rooting for the coyotes in the dakotadome, we want to kind of memorialize this era as we move into the new area. it's a great new facility. it's going to be a great improvement for us, but at the same time we don't want to forget all those players that played for 37 years here at the dakotadome and forget all of the accomplishments that they had," said joe thuente, an assistant athletic director at usd. the online voting will narrow

for the first time in 19 years, the iowa basketball team has won their first five big ten games. iowa, who moved up to ninth in the ap poll this week, travels to last-place rutgers on thursday. the scarlet knights are 0 and 6 in the conference. the hawkeyes beat michigan state and michigan last week to improve to 14-3 overall. going back to last season, iowa has won 11 straight big n games -- their longest streak since 1970. iowa has four seniors in their starting lineup, including siouxlander's mike gesell and adam woodbury -- they've been around long enough to know that you can't look past anyone. "we've learned from a little bit of experience, even with augustana in preseason, it's a very good team still and you can lose to anybody on any given night if you don't bring it," said gesell. "especially in the big ten, i think top to bottom, it's the best conference in college basketball." "we haven't really had a whole lot of letdowns. i mean, we haven't lost a game because of it yet and we're hoping not to," said

two-game skid against wichita state tonight. the panthers are just 10 and 9 overall. the morningside women are still number-1 in the new naia division ii poll. the mustangs have a two- game lead in the gpac, and are hosting mount marty tonight. briar cliff stays at number-15. the chargers visit number-13 dakota wesleyan tonight. northwestern is receiving votes. on the men's side, briar cliff stays at number-4, with 15 straight wins. the chargers play 14th- rankeded dakota wesleyan at 8 o'clock, on the road. dordt is receiving votes, heading into their game at northwestern tonight. we'll have highlights from sioux city and orange city, at ten. back in june, the iowa high school athletic association decided to cut the football playoff field from 32 teams in each of the six classes -- back to 16 teams -- starting this year. the association cited player safety as one of the reasons for the change -- in previous years, the first three rounds took place in just ten days. the schedule has been released with the first round on friday, october 28th. the quarterfinals will be a week later, friday, november 4th. the semifinals are november 10th through the 12th in the uni-dome.
