thursday, january 21. coming up in this half hour of news 4 today... the governor of michigan publicly apologized for the on going water crisis in flint. and now singer, cher, donated thousands of bottles of water to help the 100-0-ousand residents have safe drinking water, something they haven't had since 2014. the latest from michigan on the way. also, students usually aren't allowed to wear hats during school. but for one dollar, kids at crescent park elementary in sioux city could don a cap and help others battling cancer. and later, it will be tense this sunday in one colorado household where two siblings named after peyton manning and tom brady will be watching the nfl game together. more on ththhouse divided coming up. but first, here's ben.

a half-block west of norfolk high school at around 2:45 a.m. fire officials on scene said that there was heavy fire and smoke emanating from the rear of the house when they arrived, but said everyone was able to get out safely. the blaze was brought under control within an hour, and most of the fire crews had left the scene by 4 a.m. a cause of the fire is under investigation. frustrations continue to spill over in flint, michigan as the city continues to deal with its' contaminated water supply.. yesterday, water donated by the entertainer cher was delivered to the 100- thousand or more who still are unable to use tap water.. michigan's governor has promised answers.. and action -- as federal and state criminal investigations continue.. jay gray has the latest..

investigators are combing over a investigators are combing over a tour bus two days after a fatal accident in northern california. the california highway patrol is leading the investigation into the crash, while the national transportation safety board is conducting their own. two women were thrown from the greyhound bus and killed when it flipped onto its side on a highway in san jose tuesday morning. authorities say the driver lost control of the bus before it crashed into safety barrels and flipped. the driver allegedly told officials he was fatigued at the time of the accident. a nebraska school held a session to teach kids what to do in the event of an active shooter. the wausa and bloomfield school districts held an active shooter training session, that included a seminar and role play scenario. some of the teachers learned that what they were originally taught about active shooter safety was wrong. another teacher experienced what it's like to stare down the barrel as a victim. "i actually felt fear. i felt like 'oh here we go,' and i watched him point the gun at me. i knew the scenario was happening logically in my brain, but that adrenaline hit me and i just turned and wentnthe other direction fast

among chief ford's accomplishments, his colleagues say one of the biggest is the technology he brought to the department. they all talk about chief ford with respect and said he created a family atmosphere for them. the last 47 workers at the centurylink call center in sioux city have lost their jobs with the in october, centurylink announced it would close the center which, at one time, a centurylink spokesperson said the closure is part of the efforst to remain compettitive by reducing costs. work at the sioux city center will be transferred to a center in utah. nebraska authorities are investigating after a bald eagle was found shot in cedar county. officials with nebraska game and parks say someone found the dead eagle on sunday about three miles southeast of yankton. they say to rooster and two hen pheasants were found in a bag with the eagle that was thrown into a ditch. hunting season for rooster pheasants runs through january 31, but it's illegal to kill hen pheasants. the punishment for killing a

new polls show hillary clinton and bernie sanders neck-and-neck in iowa. and some opinion surveys find her national lead shrinking. that has clinton supporters using a new tactic -- arguing that a candidate who openly calls himself a socialist could never win the general election. jeff zeleny has the latest from the campaign trail.

looked to boost their way up through the crowd of candidates. former senator rick santorum stopped at the copper cup coffee house in cherokee where he discussed the experience needed for that presidential bid. "people have been upset for several years of sending people to washington who say they're going to do one thing then don't do what they say they're going to do," said presidential candidate, rick santorum. former arkansas governor mike huckabee held a "huddle" at the cherokee train depot where he talked about his commitment to the state of iowa. "i think that a lot of people in iowa are beginning to think through that they don't want to give their caucus vote to someone that they don't know that well...and they know me," said presidential candidate, mike huckabee. the kunickis went to both santorum and huckabee's town halls and say they're impressed with both presidential hopefuls' "genuine" answers to their questions. "i just appreciate the fact that both of these gentlemen would come to northwest, iowa and we get to meet them one on one and that's very important to me," nancy kunickis of laurens, iowa. but, they're still not ready to make a final decision... "i gotta tell ya i'm still on the fence about many, ya it's a very, very large field and the fact that they allow us to meet them

one-on-one is very helpful and very important to all of us," said ken kunickis of laurens, iowa. both candidates say it's time to get serious and cast that vote on february 1st. >> ben carson says it will be with a "heavy heart" that he resumes his presidential campaign thursday.. following the death of a 25- year old volunteer. carson wrote on facebook that he'll be "filled with the inspiration" of braden joplin's life story when he returns to the campaign trail in iowa. joplin was a texas tech student killed tuesday when a van carrying four carson staff members flipped on any icy patch of road in cass county, iowa .. and was rammed by another vehicle. the candidate immediately stopped campaigning and flew from south carolina to omaha, nebraska.. where joplin was rushed to a trauma center. the other three passengers in the carson van were released from the hospital yesterday. iowa representativ e steve king had strong words for branstad and his call to defeat cruz. king said yesterday, the governor's comments were potentially dangerous for the future of the iowa caucuses.

"what presidential candidate is going to come to iowa and run if they have to fear that the governor is going to come out and campaign directly against him and yet still not come out and ask iowans this is who i'm for," said congressman steve king. king accused branstad of listening to his son, who works in the bio-fuels industry. iowa's u.s. senator charles grassley has set a record among the country's lawmakers. the 35-year veteran of the senate has gone the longest, out of any other missing a single vote. grassley has not missed a vote in 22 years, six months, and six days, according to roll call, a political watchdog website. during that time he's cast more than 75-hundred 'yeas' and 'nays.' grassley sayeven though you

"we want people to look back at their time rooting for the coyotes in the dakotadome, we want to kind of memorialize this era as we move into the new area. it's a great new facility. it's going to be a great improvement for us, but at the same time we don't want to forget all those players that played for 37 years here at the dakotadome and forget all of the accomplishments that they had," said joe thuente, an assistant

"the passion in these kids eyes is huge, i had that when i was growing up and i just saw 40 kids have it, which is great. what they are doing here is unbelievable."

an arkansas community is showering one family with love as they watch their two-year-old daughter battle thanks to that support, they're finding hope along the way. joseph holloway shares their story in healthbeat 4.

"the next day, took her to the doctor because she had been a little sickly. um, they ran some blood work and that evening, we were on a helicopter flight to children's hospital." on october 28-th, hayden was diagnosed with leukemia. (sot: ann meythaler, parent) "those are scary words and you don't, at that point, know what that looks like... what that looks like for your life and for her life." the meythaler family has made several trips to little rock for hayden's treatment -by car, ambulance and even helicopter. wall street is drowning in oil. stocks are having their worst start to a year in history in part because of a rapid plunge in the price of oil. the price of crude is down 28 percent this year already, which in turn has dragged down energy company shares. yesterday, stocks recovered much of an early plunge. the dow fell 249 points closing at 15,767. the nasdaq slipped five and the s&p lost 22 points. u.s. stock indexes are down 10 percent or more since the beginning of the year. 2015 proved to be the comeback year for toys.

decade. the minneapolis- based retailer says it's working this year to increase its offerings of cage-free egg products in its stores nationwide. target says it's set a goal of having 100 percent cage-free eggs by 2025. a number of other food suppliers including mcdonald's, taco bell and dunkin' donuts have already pledged to go 100-percent cage-free in coming years. there's a new flavor of oreo cookie. nabisco's cinnamon bun flavored cookies officially hit the market. buzz about the flavor's release has been circulating for three months. fans rejoiced on social media when the cookies were spotted in stores. the company also says it will be re-releasing red velvet oreos in time for

fire damaged a norfolk, nebraska home early this morning. firefighters were called to a house fire on the 600-block of walnut avenue at about 2:45. the house is about a half- block west of norfolk high school. when crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the back of the house. those inside made it out safely. it took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control. the fire was caused by the fail of an electrical circuit in the home. frustrations continue to spill over in flint, michigan as the city continues to deal with its' contaminated water supply.. yesterday, water donated by the entertainer cher was delivered to the 100- thousand or more who still are unable to use tap water.. michigan's governor has promised answers.. and action -- as federal and state criminal investigations continue.. jay gray has the latest..

"it shows that they care," said kellesse heard.
