in the attic is being blamed for a fire that severly damaged a home in norfolk, nebraska early this morning. the blaze was reported at 2:45 a-m in the 600-block of walnut avenue. flames and heavy smoke were coming from the rear of the house when firefighters arrived on the scene. everybody got out of the home safely. the fire was brought under control within an hour. damages to the home and it's at 45-thousand dollars. a sioux city man charged with shooting a man to death in that man's home in sloan, iowa last year has been granted a delay in his trial. 30-year old timothy schroeder is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old dustst wilder january 9th of last year. schroeder's trial was set to begin february 16th, but judge jeffrey neary agreed to give defense attorneys more time to prepare. the trial now is scheduled to begin july 12 in woodbury county district court. schroeder was arrested the month after the

had been drinking with wilder at a local bar, then went to his house. she said schroeder fired two or three shots with a handgun inside the home. a dog sitter found wilder's body the next day. a big snowstorm is headed for the eastern u-s with potentially paralyzing snow this weekend. but, it's already causing problems for commuters in washington, dc. jim cantore has the latest.

he would give decision- making power back to the states for things like education and the environment. huckabee also talked about r rtoring what he calls, 'our national soul.' "this country has lost its nationaloul and by that i mean we used to a country that valued virtue, patriotism. we understood that some things were right and some things were wrong. we upheld children, we made that a part of every community. we weren't always divide by race and economom position," says huckabee. one voter says after hearing huckabee's stancon the issues, he'll be caucusing for him. "i wanted to see where he stood on a lot of things and see as far as the politics, he know about it more than i do. he's facing a lot bigger things than i am, so i just wanted to see if i agreed with the things he said, and i did. i feel comfortable for him to be the man to make the decisions," says craig sandvick, a huckabee susuorter. huckabee won the iowa caucuses

this year. he says short cuts or big money won't win over voters, but talking with people about their needs will win him the caucuses. he also campaigned in le mars, sioux center, rock valley and sheldon today. iowa congressman steve king is lashing out at governor terry branstad for telling iowans not to vote for ted cruz in the caucus. king says the governor's comments are potentially dangerous for the future of the iowa caucuses. he wonders what candidadtes will want to come to the state if they know the governor may campaign directly against them. branstad has criticized cruz for calling for an end to federal support of ethanol. king has endorsed cruz' candidacy. the woodbury county republican partrtchairman is also criticizing branstad. kevin alons issued a statment reading in part, "i am very disappointed with governor branstad's attack on senator ted cruz. in the end branstad did more to reveal his "establishment" credentials than to tarnish those of presidential candidate ted cruz.

okoboji skycam... a sioux school girl, affected personally by e death of her uncle, decided to take action against cancer. and that's why a lot of students at crescent park elementary were wearing hats in class on wednesday. ktiv's sam curtiss has the story.

"and i had a third grade teacher who had breast cancer," said heard. so, kellesse wanted to make a difference. from sports hats to bucket hats and custom hats. wednesday was hat day at crescent park elementary because of her. "it really touched my heart when i heard that she wanted to do something for others," said melanie robinson, kellesse's teacher. so the fifth grader wrote her principal. seeking and getting approval for hat day. the only requirement - for each one worn - students would donate a dollar for the june e. nylen cancer center. "it shows that they care," said kellesse heard. "it was really impressive how many people we got to donate(d)." of the 204 students, kellesse says all pitched in. raising $216. something she could tell mom at pickup. "i was very proud," said tina heard, kellesse's mother. "we were actually going through a loss at that point and she just decided on her own that she wanted to help. it was the best feeling." the school even posted a bullllin board to show the donations.
