walking this morning. the dakota county sheriff identifies the victim as pablito perea- ybarra. he was struck by a car in the 15-hundred block of atokad drive around seven 'o clock this morning. he died at the scene. sheriff chris kleinberg says the accident is under investigation with assistance from the nebraska state patrol. the search continues today for a man who robbed a norfolk, nebraska hotel at gunpoint, prompting a lockdown of local schools on wednesday. the robbery happened at the hampton inn late in the morning. the suspect fled on foot. as a precaution, several area schools chose to go into lockdown mode, including all elementary schools and the junior high and middle schools. the teenager known for his "affluenza" defense has been brought back to texas, after a month-long stay in mexico. 18-year old ethan couch arrived late this morning at dallas-fort worth airport aboard a commercial flight in handcuffs and with a police escort. the texan teen and his mother

the subjects of an international manhunt after he missed a mandatory check-in probation. they were both arrested in puerto vallarta, mexico, on december 28 and were transferred couch was put on probation after killing four people in a drunk driving accident in 2013. the jailed leader of an armed group that's been occupying an oregon wildlife refuge is urging remaining militants to site and "go home." ammon bundy's plea for an end to the occupation came a day after he and several followers were arrested on federal charges. reid binion reports.

"let us take this fight from here. go home and hug your families. this fight is ours for now in the courts." it came a day after protester lavoy finicum was shot and killed by police during the arrest of bundy and four of his followers. officials say finicum led authorities on a high speed chase, exited his vehicle, and reached for his waistband, where he had a gun. that's when officials say swat team members opened fire. two additional arrests related to the occupation were made in burns oregon... ...and a third in arizona. as some protesters stayed at the refuge wednesday in defiance, others left, including three men who were arrested. while ammon bundy wants them all to decamp... ...his father, nevada rancher bundy, disagrees. few days with many places already in the 30s early this morning. we will however deal with some passing cloud cover especially across northwest iowa with a little bit more sunshine out west, so we'll be sort of splitting the difference of that here in sioux city as winds diminish out of the northwest. with some melting today and calmer winds tonight, fog will jump back into the realm of possibilities for friday morning's commute. another system will pass us by to the north on friday too which might produce a few sprinkles on an otherwise mild day, and those days will continue into the weekend with a slight chance of a light mix saturday night/sunday morning with yet another passing frontal boundary. the biggest of our concerns though is with a low pressure system moving out of the southwest early next week. its associated snow chances appear to be on track next monday night and tuessay along with strong winds and a shot of cold air moving in behind it, so be sure to enjoy the mild >> it's all the buzz in politics right now: tonight's republican debate without donald trump. will being a no-show help or hurt him in iowa? poll numbers just out.

alternate asking questions from the men and women of iowa who are going to vote in the caucus on monday night." no word on if trump has accepted the invite for the two-hour town hall event. republican presidential candidate ben carson got a standing ovation from iowa lawmakers during a visit to the state capitol this morning. carson, who will take part in tonight's g-o-p debate in des moines, spent time in the house chamber. he didn't make any public remarks, but carson got a standing ovation when he was introduced by representative rob taylor of west des moines who co-chairs carson's campaign in iowa. some fast-food workers in iowa who want to be paid 15-dollars an hour plan to stage demonstrations ahead of tonight's republican debate in des moines. workers from restaurants including mcdonald's walked off the job for the day today. activists say the daylong series of protests will culminate with a march to the iowa events center and rally at the debate site, where they hope to draw at least one-thousand of

it was 30 years ago this morning that the nation was stunned with the space shuttle challenger tragedy. today, nasa is marking the sad anniversary with a day of remembrance. the families of the seven astronauts lost gathered at cape canaveral to mark the anniversary. today's events also include memorials for the three apollo-one astronauts who died in a space capsule fire during a test on the launchpad in 1967.. and the seven space shuttle columbia astronauts who died in 2003. a hit in a hockey game last night in canada is raising a lot of eyebrows today. and it wasn't a hit on a player, but on a referee. second period between the flames and nashville predators... that's when calgary defenseman dennis wideman decides, for some reason, to cross- check linesman don henderson viciously into the boards. players from both sides look shocked at the hit. henderson got up soon after, looking dazed, understandably...but he did

here's a live look at west lake okoboji from our okoboji skycam... a world war two veteran from new york state is finally getting some long-overdue recognition for his service. he's received several medals that he should have gotten decades ago, including one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a soldier... the bronze star. kumi tucker reports.

some of the fiercest fighting. williams' daughter linda and son-in-law david say he's always talked about his medals, and they contacted congressman chris gibson's office for help. gibson was able to present the world war two veteran with his missing medals, including the bronze star. all together, a symbol of this nation's gratitude. "thank you! very nice of you!" "my privilege. so incredibly proud of you." "thank you." the bronze star was a surprise to his family. williams was awarded it because of witness accounts of his brave actions in combat. rep. chris gibson, r- kinderhook "i couldn't be more proud of his service and deeply grateful for both his achievements and the sacrifices of both thomas and all those that served with him. they saw some of the toughest ground combat in the second world war. the germans, at that point, were very desperate." the one hundredth infantry division was heavily involved in the battle of the bulge. gibson's staff worked to give the government details of williams' service and to get him the medals he earned decades ago. david engle, williams' son- in-law "i'm just elated. i'm just so surprised that at this time you have all the people here honoring him." as a young man, williams saw things no teenager should have to see. he served our country, a member
