the next step in contract and pay negotiations for workers represented by the sioux city education association happened today. the s.c.e.a represents employees like teachers, nurses and sioux city schoooodistrict officials laid weeks ago, the union presented its first draft of amendments. negotiations will become private but the biggest roadblock the s.c.e.a says in bargaining is the state providing schools with

a blood drive is taking place on saturday to honor the memory of a siouxland teenager. eighteen-year-old mckenzie cummins was killed in a car crash h ar denison, iowa over the summer. mckenzie g gduated from west monona high school in 2015. she ed just weeks before starting college at wayne state. between the ages of 16 and 18 she donated a total of two gallons of blood. her friend teamed up with the american red cross for the blood drive on saturday in moorhead, iowa. it takes place at the community center from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. because of winter weather the red cross is seeing a shortage of blood in parts of the country. still to come... the okoboji winter games kicked off today. we'll take a look at the events that people can participate in. > it was another mild day with more melting and lots of sunshine.

through the weekend with a pretty quiet weather pattern. we will stand a slight chance of a light mix on saturday night but that system is small compared to the one moving into the midwest early next week. that bigger systecould start giving us some light snow by monday night and bring more snow chances on tuesday. we still can't tell exactly where in@the midwest the heaviest of snow will end up falling, but we'll have a chance of getting some of that snow in siouxland and a lot of wind will come along with it as well causing our mid-week to become much colder. we'll obviously keep you posted as

preparation for a competition. over 400 students from across nebraska came to the chuck pohlman ag complex in norfolk for a tune up for the state future farmers of america competition later this year. a lifestock judging coach says the students at the competition are learning different skills, most importantly decision-making as they explain their judgments on how they rated thehe cale, sheep and hogs. the winners from today's district competition will then compete at the state f-f-a convention in april. still to come... broom ball, mega snow pong and tons of food.... the winter games kicked off today.

"it's that time of year again, the university of okoboji winter games, and they're predicted to be the biggest yet." ...which is always held during the last weekend of january. organizers say they're expecting record numbers in the thousands this year. there will be over 100 events on schedule, more than any other year. "i don't think there's any event really truly like it in the state of iowa. i received entry forms you know i have a broomball team from new york that plays every year. ople just want to get out and have fun regardless of what the temperatate is and like i said people have cabin fever, winter blues and the university of okoboji winter games is a cure for all of that," said program director at iowa great lakes area chamber of commerce, jen johnson-ross. day one included a tiki in the tent party. friday is the swim suits and snow boots competition. saturday includes mega snow pong , broom ball and an omelette brunch. iowa. the hawkeyes are 7-0 in the conference and jumped to third in the ap rankings this week. iowa is visiting number-8 maryland tonight. lasteason, the hawkeyes clobbered the terrapins in their only meeting, 71-55, in iowa city. the hawks jumped to a 22-3 lead and never looked back -- shooting 64 percent from the field. maryland is 17-3 this season, and 6-2 in the big ten. the terrapins are 11-0 at home, where they average over 80 points per game.
