every four years, iowa voters get first crack at presidential candidates from both parties. and, every four years, some states-- and even more members of the media-- wonder why? the chairs of iowa's political parties seem set on setting the% tone for presidential politics.

republicans don't want to repeat past mistakes. "we are as prepared as we can possibly be to make sure we have an open, transparent and successful caucus," said hoefert.. and,d,ith eleven gop candidites, republicans say they're certain of one thing. "we know that the next president of the united states will be on the ballot in iowa monday night," said hoefert. republicans expect to break the record of 120,000 at the 2012 iowa caucuses. democrats don't use the word "record", rather turnout will be "strong." "i think we'll have a very good turnout," mcguire said. "i've been going all over iowa for the last year, and i've been seeing such enthusiam and energy. i tell the story that people are always bringing chairs and tables when i'm there because there's more democrats t tn they thought were going to be there." party leaders claim the candidates are spurring the surge, and share the enthusiam of the electorate. "they are really pushing to the end," dr. andy mcguire, iowa democratic party chair said. "they're closing the deal." >> one thing the gop doesn't want is a repeat of 2012... when mitt romney was

ktiv's tiffany lane was at the sioux city convention center earlier today and has the details. tiffany? tommmm, this was clinton's fourth stop in sioux city since announcing her candidacy. and she made one message clear...she wants iowa's vote. there were about 460 people who packed into the convention center lobby. like her last stop in sioux city, clinton put much of her focus on the economy...starting with jobs. "we need more infrastructure jobs," "our roads, our bridges, our tunnels, our ports, our airports, our rail system, there is work to be done in iowa and america. and these are jobs that can't be exported." clinton also talked about debt free tuition for public colleges and universities. she said that doesn't include free college for everyone. moines, mike huckabee speaks to supporters... and also to the mitchell's from chicago. "even though i'm supporting hillary clinton, it's important as americans that i hear the other side." the mitchell's are in iowa on vacation to see the caucuses. "mexico is always going to be there, but it's only one in every four years are going to see something as magical as the presidential election." "i respect the political process so much and i respect every one of these candidates for doing this because this is hard. mike huckabee -- if he's been to every single county in iowa -- it's tiring. no one does this if they don't believe in something, if they don't believe in what they're saying." jim labriola believes in mike huckabee. "i love the realness. it just comes through." jim played benny on home improvement. he's a comedian -- from new york -- on the road stumping for huckabee.
