reminding people to move their cars from the streets to make way for plows to get through. also, city leaders in south sioux city, nebraska have issued a snow emergency today and tomorrow for people there. that means no parking on emergency routes or you will be towed. don't push snow onto streets, clear sidewalks as soon as possible, stay back from plows and give them room to get by, and limit your travel. the heavy part of the storm should be hitting us right around 8 o'clock, so while the roads aren't too bad right now, they're only getting worse throughout the morning. ktiv's michelle schoening has been following the preparations for this storm and she joins us live from floyd boulevard in sioux city this morning.

and with the possibility of a foot of snow around the siouxland area, everyone is making last minute preparations. yesterday, i checked-in to see how sioux city prepared for the storm. last night, city plow crews began prepping the roadways and equipment. more than 15 trucks will be on the roads trying to make them as clear as possible. sioux city's field service manager says the windy conditions and heavy snow will be a challenge to keep the roadways clear. shovels, salt, and snow blowers were the hot ticket items for shoppers as they, too, get ready to dig out. "that. and i saw one on sale and thought maybe i was going to need that tomorrow," said miles petersen, last minute shopper. the city asks the public to remove parked cars along the streets to make plowing the roads easier. they also advise everyone to stay safe if travel is a necessity.

now to the other big story of the morning... the iowa caucus. the results are in. on the republican side, ted cruz pulls the upset over donald trump, beating him by four percent. cruz's iowa victory was propelled by republican caucus-goers who said they want a candidate who shares their values. marco rubio finished a strong third and carries that momentum into new hampshire. hillary clinton is claiming a razor-thin win

democrats. sanders say he's taking that as a big thumbs-up for his presidential campaign that shows he can ultimately prevail. and in woodbury county donald trump actually won the republican caucus with 31 percent of the votes. and on the democrat side, hillary clinton ended up with 46 percent and bernie sanders had fifty-three percent of the votes. so on the republican side, we have an unexpected republican winner. and on the democratic side, it was a historically close race. let's go to nbc's tracie potts... she's analyzing results in des moines.

detained oregon militia leader ammon bundy's father ordered protesters yesterday to keep occupying the malhaur wildlife refuge. cliven bundy sent a notice to the harney county sheriff to remove all federal and state policing agents out of harney county. group leader ammon bundy and ten others were arrested last week, after one of the protest group's most prominent members was shot dead by a law enforcement officer. ammon bundy will be back in court today. there's a new smartphone app for emergencies. coming up next, how first responders can use it to save your life if you can't respond when they get to you.

in the state are snow-covered, slushy, and icy... they are warning drivers about blowing snow too. norfolk and the surrounding areas could get up to a foot of snow. due to the weather, many schools are closed today, including all schools in sioux city. be sure to watch for the latest in scscol closings and delays right here on ktiv, or online at ktiv dot com. we have received a few new ones, so they keep rolling in. south sioux city, nebraska has issued a snow emergency for today and tomorrow. that means no parking on emergency routes or you will be towed. and a remimier not to push snow onto streets, clear sidewalks as soon as possible, stay back from plows and give them room to get by, and limit your travel. the heavy part of the storm should be hitting us right around 8 o'clock, so while the roads aren't too bad right now, they're only getting worse

ktiv's michelle schoening has been following the preparations for this storm and she joins us live from floyd boulevard in sioux city this morning. michelle, how are the roads right now? with the possibility of a foot of snow around the siouxland area, everyone is making last minute preparations. yesterday, i checked-in to see how sioux city prepared for the storm. last night, ty plow crews began prepping the roadways and equipment. more than 15 trucks will be on the roads trying to make them as clear as possible. sioux city's field service manager says the windy conditions and heavy snow will be a challenge to keep the roadways clear. shovels, salt, and snow blowers were the hot ticket items for shoppers as they, too, get ready to dig out. the city asks the public to remove parked cars along the streets to make plowing the roads easier. they also advise everyone to stay safe if travel is a necessity.
