9-1-1 call from a female who stated she had encountered a subject who had been stabbed." the victim is 50-year-old vernon mace, who family members say lived down the street from where he was killed. here's video of officers taking the suspect 47- year-old elias wanatee into custody wednesday afternoon. family m mbers say wanatee is married to mace's niece and they are shocked by his death. "he's an amazing guy," "he helped everybody. i'm pretty sure he helped eli. and for eli to do this is wrong." . su family members say wanatee stabbed mace down the street and that's when mace made his way to the house behind me where his friend lives, asking for help. sioux city police say the stabbing happened during a fight. mace, a father of five, was taken to mercy medical center.. where those close to him, left one final message before he died. ththsuspect, elias wanatat, has an extensive criminal record. wanatee served more than 20-years in prison for the murder of a man outside of a sioux city bar in 1990 in 2014, wanatee was wanted by the u.s. marshal service for violating his parole for a 2nd-degree murder conviction. then in october of last year, wantatee was charard with assualt whilele dilaying a dangerous wpon. he was accused of pulling out a machete-type knife during a disturbance at the super wal-mart on floyd boulevard in sioux city. a group of protesters walked the streets of denison, iowa today. at the center of the protest, lewd images allegedly created on a computer by the city's police chief. the controversy surrounds what some may consider racist and pornographic pictures that a former police officer claims john emswiler. this is video of chief emswiler from a story ktiv covered in august. the city attorney says mayor daniel leinen investigated the allegations, and determined that disciplinary

leinen said he cannot comment on camera for legal liability reasons, but says that he believes he "used correct protocol." he also says he "does not agree with what the chief of police did and he was reprimanded for his actions." the temperatures are going to rise. chief meteorologis t ron demers is here to tell us more. weather ad-lib it stayed pretty cloudy again for most of siouxland and as a result most of our temperatures were again topping out in the 30s. but that warmer weather is now getting very close. clouds will continue to be persistent overnight tonight as winds pick up which should keep temperatures from falling too much. those same winds will take a more southerly turn tomorrow, become a bit brisk and combine with a few rays of sun to produce highs near 50 degrees. the gun pointed right at me... "what is that? a gun? can i have it? no!" it's time for these young kids to come face to face with a police officer - and their moms. "who found the gun first? you did?" "i"iidn't think it was real." "i think it was just a toy." "this is a real gun...it's a real gun." this was a test...an experiment...but it quickly became very real for these parents... "worst case scenario, he could have shot somebody if that was a real gun. to be a parent on the other end...pretty terrifying." "we haven't had that conversation and he was the first to pick it up. i'm scared.

once more. the dome was ripped openuring that big blizzard two weeks ago. workers repaired the rip, and re-inflated the dome, last week. briar cliff university uses the dome, in south sioux city, for indoor sports practices and softball games. a crew from canada was flown into fix the facility. the u.s. beeef supply is projected to be down for 2016. the cattle trader center says this year's it's expected to be 28 billion pounds. that number is down 30 million pounds from last month. brad's here -- with wrestling from des moines. four siouxland teams were competing in the state dual team tournament. we'll check out the results. and, iowa state's georges niang passes a big milestone.

the iowa dual wrestling tournament in des moines. sgt. bluff-luton was one of eight teams in the class 2a tourney, while westwood, sibley- ocheyedan and logan- magnolia were all in the 1a field. fifth-seeded sibley- ocheyedan was the only siouxland school to win in round one. the generals beat logan- magnolia, 36-32, but then lost to top-seeded lisbon in the semifinals here, 50 to 22. sibley-ocheyedan faces second- seeded don bosco in the consolation finals tonight at 6:30. on the other side of the bracket in 1a, alburnett beat westwood in round one, 47-27. sbl lost their first two duals, to creston, orient-macksburg and washington. the warriors then beat albia 50-29 to take seventh place. sbl will have five guys competing in the individual state tourney. westwood lost in round one, but

dual win, 50-28 over lake mills. the rebels then lost to lo-ma, 48-22, to finish in sixth place. sports fource will be in des moines and omaha on thursday, for day one of the traditional state meets. 13th-ranked iowa state lost for the fourth time in their last six games -- falling at baylor last night. the cyclones are now 18-8 overall and 7-6 in the big 12 -- and in sixth place. isu fell 100 to 91 in overtime to the number-25 bears. baylor is now 11-2 against the cyclones in waco. one of the bright spots for isu was georges niang. he passed fred hoiberg for third place on iowa state's all-time scoring list. niang joins jeff grayer and barry stevens in isu's 2-thousand point club. done without my family, my teammates prohm, coach hoiberg," said niang. "a lot of credit to my teammates, monte morris and all those guys that do a great job of finding me on the court. none of this could have been possible without them. it stinks that it puts a damper on it that we lost." iowa state hosts tcu on saturday

the fourth-ranked hawkeyes are already at halftime of their game at penn state. iowa trails 38-31 at the half. nebraska is at #22 indiana for a 7-30 tip. we'll have highlights of both games at ten. the gpac titles are already decided, but there will be plenty of intensity when morningside and briar cliff play tonight. the mustang women and charger men each clinched the regular season titles last week. both teams are still up high in the new naia national rankings. the top ten women's teams stay the same. morningside is still second and briar cliff is tenth. mount marty moves up to 19th. the naia women's national tourney starts in sioux city on march 9th. on the men's side, the top seven teams stay the same -- and briar cliff is sixth, at 25-3. bc's school record for wins in a season is 28. dakota wesleyan is the only other gpac men's team in the rankings, at number-15. we'll have highlights from the
