"just that i love him and to let go." in sioux city, tiffany lane, ktiv news 4.>> wanatee, has an extensive criminal record. he served more than 20- years in prison for the murdrd of a man outside of a sioux city bar in 1990 in 2014, wanatee was wanted by the u.s. marshal service for violating his parole for 2nd-degree murder. then in october of last year, wantatee was charged with assualt while displaying a dangerous weapon. he was accused of pulling out a machete-type knife dudung a disturbance at the super wal-mart on floyd boulevard in sioux city.

murder in sac county, iowa, has been captured. officers with the fort dodge police department got a tip that 36-year-old jeremy werneburg was at the wal-mart store in fort dodge, wednesday afternoon. the first officer on the scene tried to handcuff werneburg, but the suspect fought back. the officer suffered a knee injury, and had to use his taser to control werneburg. werneburg has been on the run since sunday night. that's when an eyewitness says werneburg intentionally hit kyle freese with his car outside the carnarvon inn in tiny carnarvon, iowa. freese is in stable conditioin a des moines hospital. apple c-e-o tim cook is challenging a judge's order that the technology company assist the f-b-i with unlocking an i-phone used by accused terrorist syed farook. the federal government says it needs to have access to any records in farook's phone in order to track leads to isis. apple says the order could endanger phone privacy for hundreds of millions of law-abiding citizens around the world. cook published a bullish open letter, pledging to fight the ruling

"venilators [and] feeding tubes, we have a lot of medical equipment," said lee. the 33-year-old's dying wish is to travel.....to the city of lights....aka las vegas. "it's his dream," said lee. "the excitement, the lights [and] the glory about vegas." and this will certainly help get him closer to it.....a $2,000 dollar donation from winnavegas. because lukken would need caregivers by his side. "it's not a trip where we can just get our group of friends and grab our tickets and go," said lee. "it takes 24/7 care." dan lewis has led the charge in fundraising efforts. lewis owns a restaurant lukken eats at from time-to- time. "from my side, it means more for us to actually make it happen in his lifetime," said lewis. in a few months time, donations are just south of $7,000. but lukken's wish, currently, is grounded. plagued because lewis says commercial flying is not an option. "he has to fly in a private plane," said lewis. "that's our biggest

the last sitting u-s president to visit cuba was calvin coolidge in 19-28. the two cuban- american republicans running for president both slammed obama for making the trip. at a town hall wednesday, senators ted cruz and marco rubio said the president shouldn't go to cuba until it's free of what they called it's repressive regime. retired supreme court justice sandra day o'connor is disagreeing with fellow republicans... and is urging president obama to fill the supreme court's newly vacant seat quickly. o'connor says the president should name a nominee as soon as possible, despite threats from congressional republicans determined to block any nominee. o'connor was the first woman to serve on the supreme court, nominated by president ronald reagan in 1981. some legal analysts are calling on president obama to reappoint the 85-year-old former justice. south dakota governor dennis daugaard's office says he will meet with members from a sioux falls non profit who want to introduce

transgender south dakotans sometime in the next week. on tuesday, the state senate passed a bill that would require south dakota students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that to their sex at birth. if daugaard approves it, south dakota would become the first state in the nation to pass such a law. the governor has not said whether he will sign the measure. a group of protesters walked the streets of denison, iowa wednesday. at the heart of the protest are lewd images allegedly created on a computer by the city's police chief. ktiv's tommie clark has the story.

denison police officer, ray ohl. ohl says, what he calls, "harrasment" started in 2002. "he's got pictures on there that he'll photoshop of employees, of his employees, his subordinates and he'll photoshop their heads on different stuff," said former denison police officer, ray ohl. the city attorney, who was indirectly involved with the matter, says there was information on the chief's computer that somehow got onto the department's shared drive. "the mayor investigated the allegations that were raised by ohl and determined that disciplinary action was appropriate with regard to the chief. he administred that discipline in accordance with the policy of the city and the city considers this matter closed," said denison city attorney, derrick franck. the city attorney can't say what that disciplinary action was. mayor daniel leinen could not comment on-camera due to legal liabilities, but he said he believes the city "used correct protocol" and he "does not agree with what the chief-of-police did." but, ohl says emswiler was written up. he says that's not enough and protesters agree. senior patrol officer bradley wendt took around 50 pictures-- that he atttributes to emswiler-- to the city. "they wanted someone to take it to the mayor or city countil and

that so they asked me to do that so i did it for them...reporter: and what compelled you to do that?...it's just the right thing to do," said denison police department senior patrol officer, bradley wendt. wendt says it wasn't easy. violence to hold school assemblies at spalding park elementary school, wednesday morning. the students of spalding park have a group of their own... called the "positive possum panthers". both groups have a message for bullies.. "i hope that they figure out that bullying isn't the right way to go," said 7th grader, carter vanderloo. behind sioux city's first murder of 2016... and the emotional reaction from the victim's family.

wanatee, has an extensive criminal record. he served more than 20- years in prison for the murder of a man outside of a sioux city bar in 1990 in 2014, wanatee was wanted by the u.s. marshal service for violating his parole for 2nd-degree murder. then in october of last year, wantatee was charged with assualt while displaying a dangerous weapon. he was accused of pulling out a machete-type knife during a disturbance at the super wal-mart on floyd boulevard in sioux city. a man wanted for attempted murder in sac county, iowa, has been captured. officers with the fort dodge police department got a tip that 36-year-old jeremy werneburg was at the wal-mart store in fort dodge, wednesday afternoon. the first officer on the scene

the suspect fought back. the officer suffered a knee injury, and had to use his taser to control werneburg. werneburg has been on the run since sunday night. that's when an eyewitness says werneburg intentionally hit kyle freese with his car outside the carnarvon inn in tiny carnarvon, iowa. freese is in stable condition in a des moines hospital. turkey's military carried out airstrikes today on kurdish rebels, after a car bomb in ankara killed at least 28 people wednesday. the explosion occurred during evening rush hour in the heart of ankara, in an area close to parliament and armed forces headquarters and lodgings. turkish media are reporting that wednesday's suicide bombing was carried out by a syrian national linked to the outlawed kurdistan workers' party, or p-k-k. but the leader of the main syrian kurdish group denies it was behind the blast. the turkish military says last night's airstrikes targeted a group of up to 70 p-k-k rebels across the border in northern iraq. curiosity is killing our

retired supreme court justice sandra day o'connor is disagreeing with fellow republicans... and is urging president obama to fill the supreme court's newly vacant seat quickly. o'connor says the president should name a nominee as soon as possible, despite threats from congressional republicans determined to block any nominee. o'connor was the first woman to serve on the supreme court, nominated by president ronald reagan in 1981. some legal analysts are calling on president obama to reappoint the 85-year-old former justice. south dakota governor dennis daugaard's office says he will meet with members from a sioux falls non profit who want to introduce him to some transgender south dakotans sometime in the next week. on tuesday, the state senate passed a bill that would require south dakota students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their sex at birth. if daugaard approves it, south dakota would become the first state in the nation to pass such a law. the governor has not said

a group of protesters hit the streets of denison, iowa wednesday. at issue are lewd images allegedly created on a computer by the city's police chief. ktiv's tommie clark has the story.

denison police officer, ray ohl. the city attorney, who was indirectly involved with the matter, says there was information on the chief's computer that somehow got onto the department's shared drive. "the mayor investigated the allegations that were raised by ohl and determined that disciplinary action was appropriate with regard to the chief. he administred that discipline in accordance with the policy of the city and the city considers this matter closed," said denison city attorney, derrick franck. the city attorney can't say what that disciplinary action was. mayor daniel leinen could not comment on-camera due to legal liabilities, but he said he believes the city "used correct protocol" and he "does not agree with what the chief-of-police did." but, ohl says emswiler was written up. he says that's not enough and protesters agree. senior patrol officer bradley wendt took around 50 pictures-- that he atttributes to emswiler-- to the city. "they wanted someone to take it to the mayor or city countil and they cound't find anybody to do that so they asked me to do that so i did it for them...reporter: and what compelled you to do
