sarah has the day off. coming up in this half hour of news 4 today.... the man wanted for attemped murder in sac county, iowa was arrestested yesterday. we'll have the latest on the investigation. and a sioux city man accussed of stabbing another man n death early wednesday morning isislso behind bars. authorities say 47-year- old elias wanatee stabbed his wife's uncle during a fight that broke out early wednesday morning. family. and a federal judge has ordered the i-phone e the shooters who carried out the mamaacre in san bernardino, california. but apple is fighting the order, saying it could threaten the security of millions of i-phone users. and later, a new feature film follows the life of a young man and his battle with cancer. that hearwarming story is on ththway. but first, herere ben.

wrong." . su family members say wanatee stabbed mace down the street and that's when mace made his way to the house behind where his friend lives, asking for help. sioux city police say the stabbing happened during a fight. mace, a father of five, was taken to mercy medical center.. where those close to him, left one final message before he died. "just that i love him and to let go." in sioux city, tiffany lane, ktiv news 4.>> wanatee, has an extensive criminal record. he served more than 20- years in prison for the murdrd of a man outside of a sioux city bar in 1990 in 2014, wanatee was wanted by the u.s. marshal service for violating his parole for 2nd-degree murder. then in october of last year, wantatee was charged with assualt while displaying a dangerous weapon. he was accused of pulling out a machete-type knife dudung a disturbance at the super wal-mart on floyd boulevard in sioux city.

murder in sac county, iowa, has been captured. officers with the fort dodge police department got a tip that 36-year-old jeremy werneburg was at the wal-mart store in fort dodge, wednesday afternoon. the first officer on the scene tried to handcuff werneburg, but the suspect fought back. the officer suffered a knee injury, and had to use his taser to control werneburg. werneburg has been on the run since sunday night. that's when an eyewitness says werneburg intentionally hit kyle freese with his car outside the carnarvon inn in tiny carnarvon, iowa. freese is in stable conditioin a des moines hospital. apple c-e-o tim cook is challenging a judge's order that the technology company assist the f-b-i with unlocking an i-phone used by accused terrorist syed farook. the federal government says it needs to have access to any records in farook's phone in order to track leads to isis. apple says the order could endanger phone privacy for hundreds of millions of law-abiding citizens around the world. cook published a bullish open letter, pledging to fight the ruling

fbi investigators access to encrypted data on the device. cook says to comply with the order sets a dangerous precedent. apple has five days to respond to the court if it believes that compliance would be burdensome. turkey's military carried out airstrikes today on kurdish rebels, after a car bomb in ankara killed at least 28 people wednesday. the explosion occurred during evening rush hour in the heart of ankara, in an area close to parliament and armed forces headquarters and lodgings. turkish media are reporting that wednesday's suicide bombing was carried out by a syrian national linked to the outlawed kurdistan workers' party, or p-k-k. the turkish military says last night's airstrikes targeted a group of up to 70 p-k-k rebels across the border in northern iraq. health and human services secretary sylvia burwell will visit flint michigan today to get a firsthand look at the federal response to the city's water crisis. secretary burwell will talk with local leadership and community

address the city's ongoing health challenges. she'll also visit a flint health center that is providing lead testing and health care services to families and children who have been affected by lead-contaminated water. flint's mayor has recently called for quick action in flint to remove and replace old pipes in the city. but governor rick snyder announced a plan wednesday to coat the city's pipes with a protective film and conduct an infrastructure study first. it's been exactly 8 months since the shooting at mother emanuel a-m-e church in charleston, south carolina... and the church has received all sorts gifts from across the world to help their grief reporter travis rice got a look at what church members are doing with all the gifts they've received.

whittle has lived quite the life... always a trailblazer -- and determined... and that determination is one of the reasons we met this retired teacher... (sot: trudi whittle, policy holder) "i'm becoming of age where i'm starting to think about making things easier for those who are left behind because i come from a very small family." (nats) "my only sister" with no children, trudi started thinking about her sister, peggy. she wanted to make sure she'd be the beneficiary of her life insurance policy -- a policy she had paid premiums on, for years. > struggling with a form of muscular dystrohpy, a sergeant bluff, iowa, man's dying wish is to visit the entertainment capital of the world. and, a donation he received yesterday will bring him a step closer. ktiv's sam curtiss reports.

he's soft spoken...using his cousin to relay messages. "venilators [and] feeding tubes, we have a lot of medical equipment," said lee. the 33-year-old's dying wish is to travel.....to the city of lights....aka las vegas. "it's his dream," said lee. "the excitement, the lights [and] the glory about vegas." and this will certainly help get him closer to it.....a $2,000 dollar donation from winnavegas. because lukken would need caregivers by his side. "it's not a trip where we can just get our group of friends and grab our tickets and go," said lee. "it takes 24/7 care." dan lewis has led the charge in fundraising efforts. lewis owns a restaurant lukken eats at from time-to- time. "from my side, it means more for us to actually make it happen in his lifetime," said lewis. in a few months time, donations are just south of $7,000. but lukken's wish, currently, is grounded. plagued because lewis says commercial flying is not an option. "he has to fly in a private plane," said lewis. "that's our biggest

recline and fly in his chair." to get this many donations certainly is hitting the jackpot. friends and family just hope they can cash-in his winnings. "it will be his last trip," said lee. (sot: jeb bush/ (r) presidential candidate :58- 1:00) "i'm disappointed she didn't endorse me." two more days to more disappointment or - a push foward - for the six republicans left in this race. i'm tracie potts in washington - back to you. >> nevada looks like a tough battleground for hillary clinton and bernie sanders. a new c-n-n-o-r-c poll has democratic caucusgoers in nevada split almost evenly between the two presidential candidates. 48-percent say they support clinton...47- percent sanders. the racial divide among likely caucus-goers in nevada is not nearly as big as among voters in south carolina. both white and minority voters are about evenly divided between the two candidates. the democratic caucus takes place on saturday. president obama will pay a visit to cuba next month. the historic visit to the communist island nation will be part of a trip through latin america... it comes after the president formally re- opened ties with cuba in 20-14, ending more than 50

the last sitting u-s president to visit cuba was calvin coolidge in 19-28. the two cuban- american republicans running for president both slammed obama for making the trip. at a town hall wednesday, senators ted cruz and marco rubio said the president shouldn't go to cuba until it's free of what they called it's repressive regime. retired supreme court justice sandra day o'connor is disagreeing with fellow republicans... and is urging president obama to fill the supreme court's newly vacant seat quickly. o'connor says the president should name a nominee as soon as possible, despite threats from congressional republicans determined to block any nominee. o'connor was the first woman to serve on the supreme court, nominated by president ronald reagan in 1981. some legal analysts are calling on president obama to reappoint the 85-year-old former justice. south dakota governor dennis daugaard's office says he will meet with members from a sioux falls non profit who want to introduce

transgender south dakotans sometime in the next week. on tuesday, the state senate passed a bill that would require south dakota students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that to their sex at birth. if daugaard approves it, south dakota would become the first state in the nation to pass such a law. the governor has not said whether he will sign the measure. a group of protesters walked the streets of denison, iowa wednesday. at the heart of the protest are lewd images allegedly created on a computer by the city's police chief. ktiv's tommie clark has the story.

denison police officer, ray ohl. ohl says, what he calls, "harrasment" started in 2002. "he's got pictures on there that he'll photoshop of employees, of his employees, his subordinates and he'll photoshop their heads on different stuff," said former denison police officer, ray ohl. the city attorney, who was indirectly involved with the matter, says there was information on the chief's computer that somehow got onto the department's shared drive. "the mayor investigated the allegations that were raised by ohl and determined that disciplinary action was appropriate with regard to the chief. he administred that discipline in accordance with the policy of the city and the city considers this matter closed," said denison city attorney, derrick franck. the city attorney can't say what that disciplinary action was. mayor daniel leinen could not comment on-camera due to legal liabilities, but he said he believes the city "used correct protocol" and he "does not agree with what the chief-of-police did." but, ohl says emswiler was written up. he says that's not enough and protesters agree. senior patrol officer bradley wendt took around 50 pictures-- that he atttributes to emswiler-- to the city. "they wanted someone to take it to the mayor or city countil and

that so they asked me to do that so i did it for them...reporter: and what compelled you to do that?...it's just the right thing to do," said denison police department senior patrol officer, bradley wendt. wendt says it wasn't easy. violence to hold school assemblies at spalding park elementary school, wednesday morning. the students of spalding park have a group of their own... called the "positive possum panthers". both groups have a message for bullies.. "i hope that they figure out that bullying isn't the right way to go," said 7th grader, carter vanderloo. "just make friends and always be positive. it doesn't feel good to be bullied. i know that because i was bullied myself, so i want to try and help others." the positive spartans is an after-school program for students at east middle school who want to make a positive difference when it comes to bullying. and there's a new device that monitors baby's vitals such as their heart rate and breathing. up next in healthbeat 4, we'll meet a mom who says that monitor saved her son's life.

yesterday, stocks were up for the third day in a row, led by gains in energy companies following another big rise in the price of crude oil. the dow rose 257 points to finish at 16,453.

several stab wounds. family members say wanatee is married to mace's niece and the men had gotten into a fight. it is sioux city's first homicide of 2016. a protest against the denison, iowa police chief wednesday. protesters, including current and former officers with the department, say chief john emswiler created images on his computer that some would consider racist and pornographic. they include pictures with department employees heads photo-shopped onto other images. the city attorney says disciplinary action was taken against chief emswiler, but he isn't saying what action. a man wanted for attempted murder in sac county, iowa, has been captured. police in fort dodge got a tip that 36-year-old jeremy werneburg was at the wal-mart store wednedsay afternoon. they say werneburg resisted arrest and an office suffered a knee injury. the officer used a taser to subdue werneburg. werneburg has been on the run since sunday night. that's when an eyewitness says werneburg intentionally hit kyle freese with his car outside a bar in carnarvon.

moines with a leg injury. a sergeant bluff, iowa man is closer to having his dying wish come true. 33-year old tony lukken, who has battled duchenne's disease for years, wants to see las vegas. on wednesday, winnavegas casino gave 2-thousand dollars to the fund started by restaurant owner dan lewis to get tony there. so far, almost 7- thousand dollars has been donated to the cause. it's an expensive trip, because tony can't fly commercially. he needs a private flight to accomodate his wheelchair. we've got movies, music, and a bit of history in today's hollywood minute. david daniel has details.

wanatee, has an extensive criminal record. he served more than 20- years in prison for the murder of a man outside of a sioux city bar in 1990 in 2014, wanatee was wanted by the u.s. marshal service for violating his parole for 2nd-degree murder. then in october of last year, wantatee was charged with assualt while displaying a dangerous weapon. he was accused of pulling out a machete-type knife during a disturbance at the super wal-mart on floyd boulevard in sioux city. a man wanted for attempted murder in sac county, iowa, has been captured. officers with the fort dodge police department got a tip that 36-year-old jeremy werneburg was at the wal-mart store in fort dodge, wednesday afternoon. the first officer on the scene

the suspect fought back. the officer suffered a knee injury, and had to use his taser to control werneburg. werneburg has been on the run since sunday night. that's when an eyewitness says werneburg intentionally hit kyle freese with his car outside the carnarvon inn in tiny carnarvon, iowa. freese is in stable condition in a des moines hospital. turkey's military carried out airstrikes today on kurdish rebels, after a car bomb in ankara killed at least 28 people wednesday. the explosion occurred during evening rush hour in the heart of ankara, in an area close to parliament and armed forces headquarters and lodgings. turkish media are reporting that wednesday's suicide bombing was carried out by a syrian national linked to the outlawed kurdistan workers' party, or p-k-k. but the leader of the main syrian kurdish group denies it was behind the blast. the turkish military says last night's airstrikes targeted a group of up to 70 p-k-k rebels across the border in northern iraq. curiosity is killing our

retired supreme court justice sandra day o'connor is disagreeing with fellow republicans... and is urging president obama to fill the supreme court's newly vacant seat quickly. o'connor says the president should name a nominee as soon as possible, despite threats from congressional republicans determined to block any nominee. o'connor was the first woman to serve on the supreme court, nominated by president ronald reagan in 1981. some legal analysts are calling on president obama to reappoint the 85-year-old former justice. south dakota governor dennis daugaard's office says he will meet with members from a sioux falls non profit who want to introduce him to some transgender south dakotans sometime in the next week. on tuesday, the state senate passed a bill that would require south dakota students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their sex at birth. if daugaard approves it, south dakota would become the first state in the nation to pass such a law. the governor has not said

a group of protesters hit the streets of denison, iowa wednesday. at issue are lewd images allegedly created on a computer by the city's police chief. ktiv's tommie clark has the story.

denison police officer, ray ohl. the city attorney, who was indirectly involved with the matter, says there was information on the chief's computer that somehow got onto the department's shared drive. "the mayor investigated the allegations that were raised by ohl and determined that disciplinary action was appropriate with regard to the chief. he administred that discipline in accordance with the policy of the city and the city considers this matter closed," said denison city attorney, derrick franck. the city attorney can't say what that disciplinary action was. mayor daniel leinen could not comment on-camera due to legal liabilities, but he said he believes the city "used correct protocol" and he "does not agree with what the chief-of-police did." but, ohl says emswiler was written up. he says that's not enough and protesters agree. senior patrol officer bradley wendt took around 50 pictures-- that he atttributes to emswiler-- to the city. "they wanted someone to take it to the mayor or city countil and they cound't find anybody to do that so they asked me to do that so i did it for them...reporter: and what compelled you to do
