good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm sheila brummer. (matt) and i'm matt breen. a business man from yankton, south dakota will challenge republican senator john thune in the november election for u-s senate. (sheila) the south dakota democratic party introduced jay williams today at an event in sioux falls. the 65-year-old is the founder of a yankton-based software development company. he served on the yankton school board from 2011 through 2014.

climate change and income inequality. he says thune is too established in washington, and south dakota needs a "fresh" perspective going forward. "i offer the people of south dakota a new voice that will send a clear message to washington that south dakota is not happy with traditional status quo." williams says he has quite a challenge ahead of him, as thune has already raised 11-million dollars in campaign funds. williams says he has no campaign money yet, and is relying on social media to get his message out. he lost bids for a state house seat in 2010 and 2014. a sioux falls, south dakota student is petitioning to have the governor veto the transgender bathroom bill. governor dennis daugaard is mulling the issue over, and many are hoping to reach out to him and ask him not to sign the so-called "bathroom bill." thomas lewis is a high school student and a transgender activist. he's using the online petition

voice heard in an emotional plea to the governor. with nearly 15-hundred his petition will show governor daugaard that the bill is not what's best for students. s/ thomas lewis, transgender advocate:10 "we're all human beings. we're all human, and we all deserve the same human kindness, the same human respect,. and that includes being allowed to use the bathroom." lewis says he plans on making a trip to pierre next tuesday with other members of the center for equality to meet tuesday is the final day for governor daugaard to either sign or veto the bill. south dakota is looking into a 20-week abortion ban. the senate health and human services committee voted 4-to-3 on the bill friday. the proposal offers some exemptions for women in medical emergencies. but, not in cases of rape or incest. south dakota currently limits abortions at 24 weeks. the bill now heads to the full senate chamber for consideration. how much longer is this warmer weather here to stay?

(matt) braunger foods acquired a 75-thousand square foot food distribution center, which includes the old sabre building. the president of braunger foods, tom kloucek, says the new facility will help them expand into other markets. the distribution center will be state-of-the art with new technology and new methods of production to better serve their customers. "it's very exciting. it's exciting for our employees it's exciting for our customers. it'll allow us to better serve our customers with more products. it's just awesome," said braunger foods president, tom kloucek the company hopes to have the new facility up and running in about 7 months. an orange city, iowa, manufacturer will have help from the state to complete a major expansion of its facility. today, the iowa economic development authority board approved tax benefits for vogel paint and wax company it's through the "high quality jobs" program. the amount of help the state will offer wasn't disclosed. vogel will invest nearly 30-million dollars in an 86-thousand square foot expansion of its powder

in orange city. the project is expected to create 49 jobs. a company that announced it would bring hundreds of jobs to sioux city has pulled the plug on the project. in october 2014, trinityrail proposed a 31-million dollar project that would have included construction of a 150-thousand square foot complex. the rail and maintenance car facility would have been built on a 120-acre site in sioux city's southbridge industrial park. the project would have created 250 jobs. but, a weak demand for crude oil, and ethanol, caused a delay in september 2015. now, the project has been canceled. "you know, overall it's disappointing," said bob padmore, sioux city city manager. "trinityrail is a great company and one we'd have loved to have in sioux city. but at the same time, we kind of saw the writing on the wall with the change in the oil market." with the project off the table, the capital improvement money it received from the city is still available. the iowa economic development authority will also pull 1.5 million dollars in tax credits through the targeted jobs program.

investigating counterfiet cash that's circulating in the norfolk, nebraska area. investigators say a few thousand dollars worth of counterfeit bills-- mainly $50 and $100 bills-- have been discovered in several businesses. police are reviewing the surveillance video of businesses where the counterfeit bills have been used, and tracking down leads from clerks and other possible witnesses. if anyone suspects that any bills are counterfeit they should call the norfolk police division at (402) 644-8700. still to come.... highlights from wrestling matches in iowa and nebraska on tonight's sportsfource extra. it was all about the wind early today as western siouxland saw gusts

the sioux city art center is hosting a new exhibit called "the art of the brick." sculpter, nathan sawaya, creates all his art with lego bricks, includin size sculptures. and within this collection, sawaya collaborated with photographer dean west to create another exhibit called "in pieces." the two artists spent years traveling and working together to blend their crafts resulting in the exhibit. it includes three- dimensional lego sculptures featured within photographs on the walls. the exhibit opens tomorrow at 5 p-m. still to come.... the nevada caucus and south

journal- marist poll, trump now leads ted cruz by just 5 points.. 28 to 23. that's down from a 16- point lead just a month ago. marco rubio is virtually unchanged at 15. donald trump is urging his supporters to boycott apple products until the company agrees to help the fbi unlock the phone used by one of the san bernardino shooters. the off-the-cuff comment came as trump was taking questions during a campaign event in south carolina this afternoon. earlier this week, apple defied a court order to assist authorities in giving access to security features on the phone.. prompting trump to take aim at the company. "but apple should give up, they should get the security, you'll find other people. when these two young people had bombs all over their apartment, other people saw, those people in a certain way are almost as guilty as the ones that did the shooting. we've got to get to the bottom of it. and you're not going to get to the bottom of it." the department of justice filed a new motion today saying that apple must comply with the government's demands.

i'm mark freund - brad has the night off. we've got state wrestling action - in both iowa and nebraska. and the girls postseason continues in iowa - tonight we'll start in des moines. thirty-three siouxland grapplers still had a shot at a state title when day two of the iowa state wrestling meet started this morning. you can see all of the siouxland wrestlers -- still alive in the winner's bracket -- at the bottom of the screen. by the semifinals - only 16 were left. that includes just one wrestler left in class 3a, sioux city north 170 pounder deion clayborne. clayborne facing jonah egli of fort dodge, who pinned him at state last year.

but clayborne turned it on - near fall here. he'll face marcus coleman of ames in the 170-pound final. "oh this is great," said deion "i've always dreamed about being in a state final but it doesn't actually hit you until you're in one." class 2a quarterfinals earlier today. you're looking at pocahontas area's shea ruffridge in 106 - he advanced in a 6-4 decision, but fell in the semifinals. sergeant bluff-luton's brayden curry at 126 - won his quarterfinal 6-2 - curry also won in the semis to advance to tomorrow. one class up at 132- austin rozeboom for boyden hull/rock valley - pinned his man, but lost in the semifinals and at heavyweight - sioux center's elijah van't hof nabs the pin to make it into the semis, though he would later lose, falling just short of the finals. "my goals were set there," said elijah van't hof of sioux center. "i didn't know what would come along my path but, it's a good travel." the semifinals in class 3a are tonight. deion clayborne of sioux city north is the only siouxland wrestler still alive in the winners bracket. class 1a semifinals took place this afternoon - siouxlanders hoping to punch their tickets to the finals. ktiv's sam curtiss has that action from des moines. mark, 9 wrestlers from siouxland were in the class 1a semis but at best, only 8 were going to be moving on to the title matches as two of them were facing off in a highly anticipated battle in the 220 weight class. 53-0 rylan richardson of south central calhoun and 43-4 matt naig of sibley ocheydan. richardson gets two for the takedown in the first period. naig notched it by the third. but this was the difference maker - richardson escapes and is 54-0 with a 3-2 decision.

siouxland wrestlers were hoping to advance to the state finals - including three defending state champions. to the century link center in omaha for the action. class c, 106 - caydon mccracken is in the finals in his freshman season - he wins 9-4 to move to the finals - mccracken is 39-and-5 class d, 113 - dominique rickard of plainview is one of two pirates in the finals - he wins 8-4 to advance to saturday with just 2 losses same class, up to 120 - crieghton's zac hazen moves to 36-and-2 with a 7-6 decision - hazen will wrestle for his first state title. "i'm just going to go out there and wrestle my butt off. i know what i gotta do. i'm going to wrestle smart and go out there and do my best," said hazen another winner from creighton - at 126, garret zimmerer with an early takedown - he follows that up with a pinfall to move to the finals. class c, 132 - o'neill caden moore tops battle creek's

the 13-4 major. class a, 152 - norfolk's caleb licking will wrestle for a second- straight state title - licking eeks out a 4-3 decision - "essentially it's like one of the last matches of my career, so it has to be going out with a bang and going big and leaving it all out there on the mat," said licking. one final class d result - drew loberg of randolph is into the finals at 152. the finals in all classes are saturday night. still to come, regional play continued for iowa girls in classes 1a and 2a. we'll head to four siouxland

the tough shot over two defenders, the knights go up two. later, the knights move the ball around the perimeter and alyssa fedders drains the three ball, and unity christian takes a five point lead. ridge view finally breaks their scoring drought here as emily egger makes the tough shot over the taller defender, but the raptors are still down by 16. unity would control the whole game, deidra noteboom gets her own rebound and makes the basket on the second try, the knights blowout the raptors 61 to 20. in lawton, number-13 lawton-bronson hosting west lyon. this was a good game - 3rd quarter, l-b up by 2 - ali verzani takes some time - and sinks the three - eagles up 28-23. west lyon has an answer - tessa van beek on the three - west lyon cuts into that deficit. then later - with lawton-bronson up 8 - van beek connects again - wildcats making l-b sweat a little bit.
