haven't seen the same dramatic decline. steak prices in january reached their lowest value since october 2014 at 7 dollars and 47 cents a pound. according to q-s-r magazine, restaurants are expecting prices for primal cuts of beef to drop another 10 to 17% this year. a total of 26 police k9s around the country died while in the line of duty last year. according to the officer down memorial page, eleven of them were due to heat exhaustion. officer tom barstad with the aberdeen police department received 2- year-old neko in april of last year, but even before the two were united, barstad researched ways to keep his partner safe. just recently the department purchased a k-9 heat alert system, also known as the 'hot dog system' for his vehicle in case the vehicle's ac unit goes out. tom barstad said, "dogs can get heat stroke very easily. if it's too hot for me, it's too hot them especially because the car is his office that's where he spends most of his time. the 'hot dog system' can cost up to 35-hundred

the newly combined monahan-nelson post has a new place to call home. post 64 held their open house earlier today to honor the new building. the legion is a full family post. that means the american legion riders, post, and women's auxilary will be utilizing the building as well. commander of the monahan- nelson post says it was fun to see the older generation help to make the project a possibilty. "the siding on the front of the building, the signs, the sheetrock and the demolation and the taping and the painting, these guys just worked here everyday as long as they could to get the job done," ed olson, commander post 64. sioux city mayor bob scott was at the open house. he hopes the young men and women serving in our military take advantage of the legion. "they've seen things unfortunetly too many times and it's hard sometimes to readjust and the only way they're going to readjust is by talking to people that have been in the same situation," said mayor bob scott. leaders of post 64 hope to serve even more

many seniors in siouxland continue to need care... and one center, which caters to seniors, is moving to a new location. "i'd be a whole lot sicker if it wasn't for pace. " pace is a program operated by unitypoint health that offers healthcare and support to seniors. pace strives to be the "eyes" and "ears" for their members' families. the center not only creates a family atmosphere, but it gives its members a purpose. "everyday camaraderie, i've met a lot of nice people and i've made some good friends here. this place is needed desperately here in sioux city, and i'm glad i've found it." said mike jeffords, a pace participant. siouxland pace will move to a new, much larger facility inside the old wellmark building at 12- 01 tri view avenue. their transition is going to create a space where staff can care for more people. about two dozen people gathered at a monthly town hall to speak with northwest iowa state representatives about

legislature. topics included legalizing medicinal marijuana, the state budet, and the recent decision to privatize medicaid. but, that decision has some siouxlanders concerened. ktiv's michelle schoening joins us live in the news room with the details, michelle? robert. one in six iowans rely on medicaid. the government moved forward to leave it in the hands of three private companies. leaving some siouxlanders worried who will decided if their medical needs will be covered. on tuesday, the federal government gave iowa gov. terry branstad the green light to move forward with a new plan to privatize medicaid.

half a million iowan's on medicaid over to three private companies rather than the individual case workers they've been use to. "we're going to spend more money and we're going to get fewer services," said dick owens. owens, who's worked with medicaid for more than six decades, says client managers will now come from the private companies. "so if there's a difference of opinion, the case managers will have to work in favor of the company. they cannot work in favor of the companies," said dick owens. to ease that concern...legi slative democrats are fighting to create an oversight committee. "to ensure that recipients of medicaid which include the elderly and disabled which are 70% of all payments that they have advocates looking out for their best interest. not necessarily a for-profit company deciding which services they will and will not receive," (d) representative david dawson. dawson says he's hopeful the bill will be passed this session. ensuring all recipients are receiving adequate care. all he's ever wanted is to meet his favorite country star --luke bryan. so with the help of some people all over the world he was able to do just that at the university of northern iowa. amanda gilbert has that story for us tonight. the bandits begin their quest for a second straight champions indoor football title tonight. sioux city is at home against omaha at the top of the hour. the bandits have plenty of veterans returning on both sides of the ball. but sioux city does have one very notable rookie - that's quarterback a.j. graham, who takes over for departed league mvp charles dowdell. the bandits are the defending c-i-f champions - but the staff says that doesn't guarantee anything in game number 1.
